    Thank you so much, mate. I was unsuccessful in migrating all of my passwords and bookmarks from a previous machine to a new one, but this time I was able to go so successfully, especially given it was a work laptop and I had no one to help me with this locally. Thanks for the tips, this video was the best!!

    I had to reinstall windows and lost the tabs that i had open and there was a lot of them. Where does chrome save the tabs? Same with Brave.

    • @cwtek1
      @cwtek1  ปีที่แล้ว

      The only way you could have done this was to have logged into your Google account in chrome and synced your data, I don’t know of any way to transfer files I. Chrome or Brave.

    • @justaninja1
      @justaninja1 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@cwtek1 They do have an export option but I had to do it before reinstall.
      I was hoping that they would save the open tabs file in app data folder or somewhere. Otherwise how would they know which tabs were open previously.

    looks like my company manages some settings and none of the options are available, are there any hacks?

    • @cwtek1
      @cwtek1  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I you could try to see if you can find the bookmarks file in c:\users\username\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\User Data\Default (replace username with your username). Copy this file to the same location on your new PC and it should transfer your bookmarks, unfortunately passwords cannot be transferred this way, so not sure of a hack to get them across if the video does not work for you!

    what if 1 of the computers doesnt work?

    • @cwtek1
      @cwtek1  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Unfortunately unless you are signed in and syncing to a Google account on the computer that has stopped working then you cannot transfer passwords, you can see if you can find a file called bookmarks which is usually located at C:\Users\(YourUserName)\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\User Data\Default you can copy this to the same location on a new computer and at least your bookmarks will be there!

      I'm still reelin from the devastating loss of 14 years worth of important personal data that I recently experienced. It's bad enough having to deal with just that. To add insult to injury, it's akin to also having salt rubbed into a raw and gaping wound, because there's the added aspect where the lost data is indeed so lost that it's unrecoverable. I didn't see that the passwords options was checked by default when I cleared the cache in Chrome. I usually only clear the one and only option that I consider as "safe" to be cleared, just pics, etc. I never clear passwords, addresses, payment info, cookies, etc - the "important" info. I'm signed in on 3 devices that are linked. Each one is set up for automatic backup's, and, in this case, it's unfortunate that they're also synced. I lost my saved passwords on all 3 devices because they're linked and synced. Also, I apparently don't have a backup file that I can use to restore them. That's because a backup occurred after the passwords were cleared, essentially overwriting the backup (with the passwords) that I need in order to be able to restore them. 😟 I'm so way beyond disappointed that the option to clear passwords is checked by default.🤬 I didn't catch it because it didn't show up on the phone screen without scrolling, which made it effectively hidden from view. The sign in info and passwords I lost goes all the way back to when I first signed up for my 1st Gmail and started using Google services, 14 years ago. 😭 There just has to be a better way, one that definitely needs to be addressed posthaste. This is an ongoing issue that has dire consequences for the many users who are like me and have also "embedded themselves and become entrenched with Google"; we've Googlized ourselves to the point that it's just too much work to decouple, basically divorce myself from them/their services. I'm still in a state of shock and disbelief since I recently lost 14 years of important data that's unrecoverable because I didn't see that the clear passwords options was checked by default when I cleared the cache in Chrome. I usually only clear the only one that's "safe", just pics, etc. I never clear passwords, addresses, payment info, cookies, etc - the "important" info. I'm signed in on 3 devices that are linked. The sign in info and passwords I lost goes all the way back to when I first signed up for my 1st Gmail and started using Google services, 14 tears ago. 😭 It's time for the ones who are responsible for creating the cause of so much anguish for way too many consumers for far too long to step up and take responsibility. The client is the consumer, the customer are your meal ticket and are essentially the only reason that a job even exists for devs. They need to handle settings so the preselected options don't lead to any catastrophic loss of data. Such losses can adversely affect a person's mental and physical health. Life is already rife with enough challenges beyond our control, we damn sure don't need any added, especially ones within our control.

    I think the file is not protected. I worry a virus hacker can see the file. I guess if you import it quick enough and delete the file asap. They won't see it or get access to it? Am I correct? How does it work?
