If you're just starting out, you're not far behind me because I still consider myself a beginner haha My biggest piece of advice is to prepare for a journey of trial and error and to not give up. The motto is build, fly, crash, repeat. I started by getting my transmitter and practicing on the DRL Simulator. Learn the controls and play with different rates to learn how adding expo to the controls changes things up. In terms of a shopping list, Joshua Bardwell has the FPV Know it all Ultimate Shopping list that I highly recommend checking out. Its a comprehensive list of things to consider, from chargers, to tools, transmitters, cameras, digital vs analog, you name it. Aside from that, I also highly recommend having a safe way to store your batteries. There's plenty of people on TH-cam who have shown their different LiPo storage/charging setups and its a small investment that brings peace of mind. Best of luck on your journey!
You should really try a smaller drone with a Naked GoPro or even the new Bones!
