Fist of the North Star: Lost Paradise is basically Yakuza, but that isn't a bad thing at all. In fact, this is one of the most fun games I've played in ages. Hilarious, absurd, and full of juicy combat. Sega has done Kenshiro's ludicrous adventures justice.

Considering the number of shirts Kenshiro goes through, he probably single handily keeps the guy in business.

Be great if Kenshiro got to battle Milton in a big epic set piece (especially with the game being set in Eden). The winner could achieve 'Paradise Regained' lol
Side note for the Japanese dub. All the characters are voiced by the people who do Yakuza characters. Kenshiro is voiced by Kiryu, Jagi is Majima, etc. So those who are familiar with Yakuza may want to play FotNS:LP in JP for even more hilarity.
Haven't got the game yet but I'm already agonizing over which dub to play through with because of this. I prefer to go with the English dub in these kind of games but I'm just so used to the Yakuza VAs.
I knew it. I only just started, but every time he talks I just picture Kiryu. The first time he talked I wasn't looking at the screen and was thinking it was an easter egg, until I realized he was playing Kenshiro. Now is that a bad thing? Hell no, he does a damn good job.
Fun fact: The game's original Japanese teaser trailer had Kiryu doing one of Kenshiro's techniques on a random thug before straight up turning into Kenshiro.
Kiryu Kazuma is a free dlc in Japan i think, you can play as him instead of Kenshiro but the moves are the same i think. It'll probably be available everywhere else as well.
Or just outright play as Kiryu as well.

Also, I had no idea that Fist of the North Star was basically an over-the-top anime version of Mad Max. I am entirely ok with this.

It's just like Yakuza even in the japanese title, in Japan Yakuza is called "Like a Dragon" and this game is called in Japan "Like a North Star" and I just love stuff like that
Yeah the Japanese title logo is literally the titles of the two series in Japanese text one above the other with "no Ken" & "Ryû" blurred / faded giving 北斗が如く.

As a fan of Fist of the North Star for the past 20~ years, I'm super happy to see this game getting so much positive attention. I haven't gotten it yet but I'm totally going to pick it up. Seems like FOTNS Games have been historically underwhelming, but this actually looks amazing.
For me, I just love how you have crowds surrounding these fights and are cheering while watching bandits blow up in violent and graphic fashions.
Mind you that considering how terrible these bandits are, you could say they would be all for their brutal deaths...

I always imagine that people making such games are thoroughly enjoying their work and love what they’re doing. I can easily imagine the devs talking about it with themselves in the free time with the notes of excitement. I am glad such games exist and there are people who not only like them, but praise them, too.
Now if Sega could make a Jojo game in the yakuza style, I can die happily jizzing in my briefs.
The question is, which Jojo part? Part 4 would work best for a game where you stay in the same city most of the time.
@@madengineerkyouma I could see that. They could even do an Eyes of Heaven style game where multiple Joestars from different timelines are pulled into a different realm and have to figure out how to get free, all the while fighting an enemy who has the power to mass produce Stands for people.
part 8 would also fit very well, but it is not over yet

Finally played it. Really good game. I've put in 80 hours so far, and am happy to play more. Trying to go for the plat, but a few of the requirements seem quite difficult.
This game is gorgeous fun and packed to the brim with things to do. I found myself playing the crane game for plushies for 45 mins and just being happy :)
Finally a Fist of The North Star game that looks like its worth playing. I loved the anime series. I might have to pick this up.
FWIW, the game is considered a Yakuza spinoff in Japan. Kiryu's Japanese voice actor is voicing Kenshiro in this game. There is also a skin available on PSN (free for the next 2 weeks), that converts Kenshiro into Kazuma Kiryu.

This is one of the funniest reviews I’ve ever seen. Jim has such childlike glee in his voice that his enthusiasm is practically infectious.
Just hearing you talk about all the things you enjoy so much about this game kept making me smile. It sounds really fun! My partner has currently been playing through Yakuza 0 and loving it so I'm sure he'll be excited to play this one.
I'm more than okay with Sega taking the Yakuza format/vibe and applying it to other series'.

It's in Yakuza 0 of sorts, but mainly in the form of getting more money for doing stuff like specials, defeating the enemies quickly, etc etc.
im about 12 hours or so into this game and im absolutely blown away by this game as well. I've played through all of the mainline Yakuza games and this is easily some of their finest work

To think that the previous Fist of the North Star game was one of Jim Sterling's worst games of 2013. Now, it looks like Paradise Lost is one of Jim's best games of 2018. What a comeback for the series.

Honestly as someone who's played yakuza since yakuza 2 and who has done too much hostess mini game, I'm fine waiting for this to be like 30 dollars.
I'm day one-ing judge eyes though and I'd get Ishin as well right away more or less.
Judge Eyes adds a lot and Ishin is unique and just needs to be ported west already.
