I also think it's kind of funny that someone wrote "DIE PIG!" on the bust of someone who's been dead since 1891. The delusions of conspiracy theorists are certainly deep-dives, if nothing else, but as Atun-Shei rightly points out, as conspiracy theories go, this one about Pike is pretty mundane. Nothing quite as flashy-trashy as: "JFK Jr is still alive and will appear in Dealey Plaza to announce, not only that Trump will be reinstated as President-for-life, but that he will replace the traitor Mike Pence to serve as his VP!" Wheeee!

Words cannot explain how much of an amazing feeling it is to get out of a hideously boring college history class, to see that Atun-Shei uploaded right after class. God I love your channel, dude. I’ve watched every video.
A zillion years ago I had a college history professor for 2 history classes: American Coloinal times & California History1542- 1900. That professor was amazing in his lectures: he brought history alive & chock full of all kinds of facts ! He got me hooked on history after that!!!
So new time viewer. Just wanted to say thank you for challenging my beliefs about the confederacy. After watching your videos and also doing my own research I've been slowly trying to break those things I was holding on to I shoulda never held onto in the first place
The way you connect the ideals between lost causers and conspiracy believers is the best part about your channel. Not only do you put historical events into context, but you also assure the viewer of the deeper lapse in critical thinking…which is not just a contemporary problem! Thank you so much for doing what you do!
Besides the history lesson, we have also discovered that Atun-Shei can destroy Confederate statues via middle finger. I'll have to go find the video to see if he cast any other statue destruction spells. The costume must give some serious buffs.
Great video. Yep, depressing is the word alright. The references to P.G.T. Beauregard's statue being removed and his activities post civil war point up some of the complexities and paradoxes attending the removal of monuments to former Confederates. In Beauregard's case, you had a monument extolling his services to the CSA while ignoring his later advocacy of civil rights and political equality. Likewise the monument to the White League extolled violent white supremacists while obscuring the role played by former CSA General James Longstreet in defending the reconstruction government against these attacks. What all this points to is that the lost cause mythology was an attack on the historical memory of the South as well as that of the North. In particular, denying the reality of division in the South over Secession and Reconstruction and fabricating the narrative of a monolithic, united, "solid South" before, during and after the war. An exercise in historical falsification that might have served as a template for George Orwell had he been aware of it. The unequal struggle between the adherents of the lost cause and the so-called "scalawags" hasn't gotten the attention it deserves as far as I can see. Which is a shame since it points up that there were available alternatives to the way things eventually panned out post Reconstruction. I think you could make an exceptional video on this score.
Walter Reeves, thank you for your well thought out comments. It is important to note that a person can change for the better and disavow the thoughts and causes that they once supported. The former confederates that you wrote about, turned their lives around and began to work for the "good and justice" . They should be remembered for that work, not their former work for the confederacy!
@@celiabrickell2500 I've seen many a Lost Cause believer defend Nathan Bedford Forrest despite all the egregiously horrific things he did because "Hey, he said 'sorry' right before he died!" while decrying people who did actual, tangible work to fight AGAINST white supremacist movements after serving the Confederacy. If you want examples of "reformed" Confederates, go for the guys who actually did work, not a slave trader, KKK founder, and racist massacre-committer who said "lol just kidding" one time and then died!
@Celia Brickell - I think they should be understood and remembered for both; for their complexities and arcs, no? In addition, we should investigate how their lives were impacted, and how they impacted others. This is to say, I agree with you, just plus.

But he contributed a lot to the rituals that we use today, so he can’t he just written off very easily.

@@09smitel aye, that he did. I doubt we’ll ever be free of the “goats” that supposedly are involved in ritual, it is true that at times we jokingly lean in. But the the emphasis on personal growth and change must be reflected in how lodges, at least in the US, adapt. I do have to say that with Pike come a lot of issues that haunt the more real elements of Masonic history, particularly regarding the civil war. If you wanted to, you could just get the 1st through 3rd degrees, skip over the rest, and then get the 33rd.
Each "degree" was a set of Masonic teachings on different subjects.
It comes from terms attached to masons tools im going to guess, with 33 degrees near another a third of a right angle

I do like that during Pike's speech at 22:00 you show what his actual argument is worth and than we have the delightful drift into delving deeply and drunkenly into delusional derpery.
5 minutes in: "ah he's gonna talk HOW long about some demolished monuments?!"

I really appreciate his dedication to examining and telling new orleans history, great work!

Besides the history lesson, we have also discovered that Atun-Shei can destroy Confederate statues via middle finger. I'll have to go find the video to see if he cast any other statue destruction spells. The costume must give some serious buffs.
He goes into detail on three monuments.
And according to the introduction of this video, all three of these monuments have been officially removed.
Statueus Takedownus!
Great insights!
@@walterreeves3679
I respect Beauregard even more now I learn he wasn't a Lost Cause numpty.

This dude can make any kind of historical rambling interesting. Utterly increddible.
What are you talking about? Historical ramblings are *always* interesting.
Freemason here, I’m glad you looked at Albert Pike; he’s a controversial figure within the lodge as well as outside of it(for the record, we call it the “lodge” instead of “order”). I believe that his defense of slavery was a total contradiction of the lodge’s principles of equality and brotherhood. But he contributed a lot to the rituals that we use today, so he can’t he just written off very easily.
Good to see another Brother here. I do wish at times the horrors ascribed to the craft were as epic as they make it out to be, rather than the flawed humanity endemic to any group.
@@albertgreene313 good to see you as well brother. It just goes to show that we have more work to do to forward (take back?) the field of Masonic history from the conspiracy theorists who tend to dominate the discussion.
It really warms my heart that Andy gave us a fair shake by presenting the story of Pike. AND pushing back against the conspiracy theorists.
Wtf is a free mason?
@@09smitel aye, that he did. I doubt we’ll ever be free of the “goats” that supposedly are involved in ritual, it is true that at times we jokingly lean in. But the the emphasis on personal growth and change must be reflected in how lodges, at least in the US, adapt.
I do have to say that with Pike come a lot of issues that haunt the more real elements of Masonic history, particularly regarding the civil war. Battle field honor and respect between enemies who are at once brothers and the like can really cause issue or muddy in reflecting our values but that’s probably not for a TH-cam comment section.
