Dude, you gotta watch the whole series! Or at least listen to some songs with Cedric like "King Cedric the Great" or "I'll get that amulet" or "The Magic Touch" (probably my fav). Honestly I started watching the series just for him xD

If I remember correctly in the first song Amber wished that her father would spend more time with her, beacuase he paid more attention to Sofia and she felt left behind ans since the father was allergic to cats, the well turned Sofia into a cat

For a series aimed at young children this show is so well written incorporating mature themes, complex issues with actual character arcs and consistent plotlines making it unironically enjoyable for any age especially with music this good.
Exactly. I watched the entire show without any children present because I truly enjoyed the heck out of it. _Sofia The First_ is unironically one of my favorite shows, and it's not just entertaining, but truly beneficial to watch. Like, when they set out to teach little kids how to handle social situations, they also really succeeded at just teaching lessons that the rest of us could afford to learn from, too. Adults have a hard time figuring out how to solve their social dilemmas, and I think watching this show could actually help with that.
I don't like mature people
Context: Sofia is around 8 in the start of the show and by the end of it she around 12. Her mom Miranda who was a shoemaker and King Roland (Amber and James' dad) fell in love and married which is how Sofia became a princess overnight. Amber and James are twins (very Sharpay and Ryan vibes), Amber was pretty spoiled and bratty at the very beginning her character arc is one of the best I've ever seen. She and Cedric (their royal sorcerer) are the best written characters in the whole show. Just trust the process, it's so worth it. James is generally pretty nice but he can be a bit stubborn and reckless but they're all literal kids so.
You should really check out the whole show. Even tho it's technically a Disney Junior show, I personally think it's THE BEST Disney Show ever, Tangled the Series is close but still. It also has something that's very rare for a children's show, which is that it actually has a lot of lore so that if you miss an episode you would not get what's going on, especially in the later seasons (it has 4 seasons). It also has some Marvel level worldbuilding and it binds the whole Disney universe (multiverse?) together with the ever realm and the never realm stuff. I can't say too much without spoiling but the show goes sooo deep and sooo hard it's just *chef's kiss*.
By the end of the series, Sophia is 14

I'm waiting for him to react to two by two (Amber and James's twin song) and as for Amber's behavior she does get better as the show goes on and the twin's backstory is actually fairly tragic but you don't get to watch part of it til two princesses and a baby + when you wish upon a well then you get more at sofia the first/elena of avalor crossover but you don't get the full unskipped version until the series finale

Two by Two made me cry!!! I'm not a twin but I am the oldest of 3 and I love my siblings deeply, and so it really got me in my feels. Plus, while my brother and I are not twins, we are only 20 months apart so we very much grew up together and were at the same stages of life for most of our existence

Don't underestimate Sophia. She's a total badass. She's also like nine at the start of the show, and 11ish by the end I think?
Amber is also pretty great. She's a brat at the start, a usually likeable one though. She's no Apple White. And she only gets better as the show goes on.
One thing I want to mention about that wishing well that's surprisingly dark: The King, Amber and James's dad, once wished that he would have twins using it. He did (Amber and James). But his wife died in childbirth as a result. So in this Disney cartoon a man actually, unintentionally, killed his own wife.
That wasn't Sophia's mom. She's his second wife and Sophia is his stepdaughter.

the voice actor for amber 13-19 throughout the show so still pretty young for being such a good singer. the voice actor for Hildagard and sofia was the same age.
They were born in the same year just Sofia's vc was born in late January and Amber's was born in early November

The recently leaked pitch Bible placed Sofia as 8 years old and by the end she's basically the most powerful person ever, at age whatever she is by the end lol. Hoping for Cedric the Great and My Evil Dreams if you do another one. Also hoping for Elena of Avalor action someday.

@Miaart777 yes she was 14 in Elena because the crossover episode was during the 3rd season, where sofia would be like somewhere between 9-11, and Elena of avalor took place over 4 years so like if she's 12 at the StF finale, which would have been during the first or second season of Elena at the same time, she would be 14 maybe closer to 15 at the Elena finale right?
context:
Sofía and her mother lived in the town (Sofía's father died on a boat)
James and Amber are twins and children of King Ronald II, the mother died in childbirth and it is revealed that the queen could not have children and that is why the King makes a wish from a wishing well to be able to have children but of course that cost him his wife's life
Then the King and Miranda (Sofía's mother) meet and get married and that makes Sofia have to adapt to a new environment and of course to a new family.
Amber's song is when, sad because her father spends more time with Sofia, she finds the same wishing well and asks Sofia to stop spending time with her father and the well turns Sofia into a cat (the father is allergic).
Sofia's is when she barely arrives at the castle and she feels that she cannot adapt (she considers that Amber and her friends despised Sofia)
Not Ready to Be a Princess is from the Pilot. It was Sofia's first night as a princess.
Bigger is Better is season 1 Amber, who yes, is a bit bratty and spoiled. She has a lot of growth throughout the seasons.
You should really listen to Cedric's songs from Sofia the First. Cedric is the Royal Sorcerer and his songs are so fun. One of his best songs is called My Evil Dreams.
You should listen to Cedric sing. He's their royal sorcerer. Another character who was once a villain but progressed into a good guy. His backstory is heartbreaking.

I started watching Sofia the First in college. It's always fun when one of these little little kids shows blows you away, simply by treating its audience with respect. Sofia works very hard to teach complex emotional lessons in an accessible way. Sofia herself is such a sweet and relatable character. She isn't perfect, she does make mistakes, which makes it all the more impactful that she makes an effort to be kind. I absolutely love her.
Hope a part 3 is on the forefront of your mind, would love to hear more. Children shows can really pop off with music sometimes and sofia is one of those
You should do Elena of Avalor next, the music is great and it's basically a spin off of Sofia the First in a way. A multipart episode of Sofia the First is the pilot for Elena.

Fun fact: Sofia's step-brother was initially voiced by Steven Universe's VA
The black and white princess is named Princess Ivy. Sofia told Amber about her amulet being magical, and Amber wanted to borrow it. Sofia wouldn't let her so, Amber stole it thinking she'd just wear it for a bit and give it back. The amulet then cursed her, which summoned Ivy there. Amber felt bad, but she needed to actually make up for her mistake in order for the amulet to send Ivy back to her deserted island. There was another song later with Rapunzel where Raps helps Amber to realize what she needs to do.
4:35 Amber isn't used to sharing her dad yet so when Sofia was doing an obstacle course, he helped her instead of spending time with Amber. Amber was upset her dad wasn't spending time with her and wished that her dad was allergic to Sofia so he would stop and hang out with her instead. He's allergic to cats so Sofia turned into a cat. James's dog is chasing Sofia because he's well a dog, Wormwood (the crow) is chasing Sofia to get the necklace, James is chasing to get his dog to stop, Amber wants to get Sofia out of the mess she created.

the “I’m not ready to be a princess” song is actually from the movie premiere that launched the series, which in the first season she’s 8 and later by the end of the show she’s like 12? but I really love how you can see the other characters who’d been influenced by sofia positively mature and grow, her sister and cedric - who’s the royal sorcerer - primarily (WHICH BTW PLS LISTEN TO MY ROYAL DREAMS THATS ONE OF MY FAV SONGSSS). the way this cast all have amazing vocals, darcy rose byrnes (amber) and ariel winter kill it every time which is crazy considering they were early teens when the show started. I need u to do a part 3 and listen to the songs in the later seasons, I think you’ll really see the development in not just the characters but the lyrics (HEAVY on “that’s not who I am” and “on my own” if you don’t mind spoilers ig)

Also Amber, the brat from bigger is better, has a great arc as well. She starts out almost antagonistic and grows to become a queen who puts her peoples needs before her own.

18:25 Amber stole Sofia's amulet after finding out it could summon princesses in times of trouble & tried to call forth Rapunzel but got villainous Princess Ivy instead, as the amulet also curses you for bad deeds (while blessing you for good ones)
one of my favorite songs is actually from near the end of the show, and it's basically the end of amber's arc and she has some incredibly vocals in it. It's called "that's not who I am"

I was just thinking the butterfly lady was in the amulet right ? But like trapped in it, not just summoned by it. But also Elena from Elana of Avalor was also in the amulet at that point in time. So are there different sections to the amulet or was Elena and the other lady just chillin' in there like:
"So how long have you been in here ? Ah, fifty years. That's cool."
"Oh what do I plan to do when I come out ? I plan to take over the world? What about u?"
Princess Ivy was summoned because Amber, who was wearing the amulet at the time, was misbehaving and thus it cursed her by bringing forth Princess Ivy. It is a sort of evil version of the advice powers the amulet has where it can summon a Princess to give the wearer advice (and later can even transport Sophia to another Princess in need... it only happens twice). Hence why Ivy wants to destroy the amulet, because it can likewise send her back.

Princess Ivy, otherwise, is stuck on a deserted island. We actually visit it in one episode... Which oddly also a sort of send off for Ms.Nettle.

Quite a few songs from Elena of Avalor are actually common domain songs that they attached lyrics to (It was much more evident early on).
I suggest you watch songs from another Disney junior series called ‘The Lion Guard’ , I think lots of those songs are great

13:14 Sofia became a princess through her mother's marriage to King Roland, so she's not technically royal by blood but the show emphasises that being a good princess/prince should come from the good traits within yourself whether you were born into the role or came into it later (like Sofia did)
8:55 & 12:57 Sofia's was said to be 8 at the start of the show (though I'm pretty confident Amber & James were at least a few months older - which would explain why they were all in the same year at school) & graduated Royal Prep Academy at around 11-12, given that Royal Prep is the equivalent of primary/elementary school.

You should watch to the song in season two episode one (I think it’s ep 1 but I know it’s early season 2)when Amber sings about her brother “two by two”. Amber is the kind of character that you wouldn’t like right away but if you pay attention to her emotions when she’s singing she genuinely feels bad when she messes up and she knows how to learn more from them
So Sophia's mom ended up falling in love and marrying the king. Sophia wasn't born a princess but still received the title after they got married. The song about her not being ready is from the first episode, so it makes sense why it sounds like the beginning of one of their movies. XD

Sophia’s amulet summons princesses based on her actions/what is happening in the episode. Iirc the black and white princess was summoned because Amber stole the amulet and put it on, so the evil lady was sent to teach Amber a lesson. If evil princess destroys the amulet, it can’t send her back to the island where she was exiled.
TLDR the evil princess wasn’t trapped in the amulet, she was summoned by it. Only it can send her back.
