    Great video, entertaining and informative. Just an idea, if you go somewhere by bike and make some nice video footage on the way, what you can and want to share and narrate it, that could be interesting too. Thank you.

    Could this be the problem on my vstar 650 starts up and runs fine but when it gets hot it loses power I give it throttle and it bogs down would this be a symptom of a bad sensor??

    • @MidlandCruiser
      @MidlandCruiser  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Being the check fairly simple, it's always worth to have a look. Make sure to check not just the idle position, but the whole throttle movement to make sure you have stable reading all through the throttle range. Also worth checking the spark plug to see if you are running rich or lean if the TPS checks out and go from there.. Hope this helps

    • @christopherkimmer8240
      @christopherkimmer8240 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      This also sounds to my untrained ear to be a possible spark ug issue

    • @philspaseo2377

      Mine dies/bogs after 60 mph, giving it full throttle sounds like it’s going to explode and also bogs down bad

    • @MidlandCruiser
      @MidlandCruiser  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      If it that bad, you may have other problems...could be ignition too..

    My idle is 840 ohms, is that ok? My base is 5100-5200

    • @MidlandCruiser
      @MidlandCruiser  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Counting with 5150, it should be around 721 at idle. Multiply the 5150 with 0.13 and 0.15 to get the two value for idle then go halfway between the two. Try to get it around 720-730 but only after you set everything else (fuel level, sync, idle screws) the TPS is the absolute last thing to do, hope this helps

      @@MidlandCruiser I have a 07 vstar. Carbs rebuilt. Fuel filter is flowing gas through the lines. Air filter seems okay. Would not accelerate past 60mph, if I give it full throttle in gear the bike would not accelerate past 60mph and it would start to die down/bog out. It sounded like a large exhaust leak(like there was no seal in the front headers) at full open throttle down the highway, the difference between half throttle and full throttle is huge. Idles fine and giving it full throttle during idle wouldn’t make the noise as it would if it was in gear. Obvious lean condition, front pipe headers are turning blue, motor running really hot, battery not holding a charge if key was in off for more than a minute, wasting more gas than usual, small but noticeable ticking noise.

    • @MidlandCruiser
      @MidlandCruiser  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Seems like you may have more than 1 problem...just a quick question..was everything fine with it before the carb rebuild?? If yes than the problem more than likely comes from there, especially if aftermarket parts have been used like K&L kit. If not and was the same then worth looking at the TPS. Put the multimeter on it and slowly turn the throttle while you looking at it and make sure the numbers are steady and not jumping up and down or go crazy etc. When you stop the throttle movement the ohm reading should stop as well..

      @@MidlandCruiser that guy that sold it to me said nothing was wrong and the carbs were recently rebuilt. Ordered fuel filter, intake boots and I’m gonna head to the store for some spark plugs. I really do not want to deal with the carb but if I changed all those small things and nothing changed, then I will have to deal with the carb.. when I pull the carb I will adjust the tps to its proper setting, thank you for assisting me, I’m pulling my hair over this.

    What happens if the throttle position sensor is not available?

    • @MidlandCruiser
      @MidlandCruiser  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hello, if it is not on your bike then it is not needed. It was only available on the big Virago. XV 1100 96' onwards in Japan and the UK . Most American models XV1000 and 1100 had manifold pressure sensors to do the same thing just a different way, located just above the ignition coils, they won't have TPS fitted. Also most of XVS Drag stars had TPS because being newer models...This guide can be used basically to any bike with carburettor fitted with TPS.... Hope this helps

      @@MidlandCruiser Many thanks for the quick reply. I have it on my bike XV1100 '98 and it is out of order. What problems does this cause?

    • @MidlandCruiser
      @MidlandCruiser  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This part on these fairly simple bikes only help the ignition unit to adjust the ignition timing, for example if you open it fully on relatively low revs it will advance it to give you more power. Also considering the piston speed the ignition needs to be advanced for higher engine speed otherwise the "bang" would complete after the TDC causing possible engine damage and horrible running..
      If you shut it then retards it slightly to keep the emission down a bit. Basically this is helping you to run the engine more efficient... If it is not working properly then you could feel power loss, and the bike will feel hesitant... Basically will feel crap😁.. It does more on fuel injected bikes but that's an other story.. 😉

    Hi, I am from Russia and the TH-cam translator is a fool. What is the minimum and maximum resistance value? On which contacts to measure it?

    • @MidlandCruiser
      @MidlandCruiser  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi...looking at the tps as it is in the video, on the 2 outside terminal it should be around 5200 ohm (this isn't changing when you rotate it), and use that value to find out what to set it to.
      The middle and the right side one is the one changing when you rotate it and should be set to 728ohm in my case AFTER you have set the idle speed (950Rpm) correctly.
      Hope this helps
