  • Part 3 AeroScout RC propeller testing. We've performed static tests on 10 different props and today we do some flight testing with my favorites. The Spektrum Sky Remote ID SPMA9500 is providing altitude and speed telemetry!

      Thank you. Still need to make the final episode of the AeroScout prop test to collect all the flight data but it's 115°F today and nearly every day in Phoenix so it's going to have to wait a couple months before I can spend a few hours outside! Should be a very interesting episode when I can get it done!
      Thanks for the sub!

    Would've liked to see the numbers on the three blade 6x4 prop in flight when it became efficient.

      Next episode of the prop testing series will include inflight data for all of the AeroScout props. Should be some very interesting data in flight!

    Well, heck. The only screen captures that show the rpm and amps were with the 6x3.2 3-blade. I would like to have seen the rpm and amps for the stock and yellow props. Your average speed with the stock prop was 61.0 mph, the average for the 6x3.2 3-blade was 57.7 mph, and the yellow prop averaged 55.6 mph. I didn't expect a better climb rate with the yellow 5x5, but I thought it might go faster. The rpm might have told us why it didn't. Do you know what the pitch of the stock prop is?

      I knew you were going to want that and I made sure to get my RPM, amps and speed telemetry all calibrated and setup to capture it. I realized I screenshot the wrong screen on the stock prop tests, corrected the screen on the 6x3.2, then had technical difficulties with my cameras and the winds were kicking up which threw me off and I ended up capturing the wrong screens again. Day didn't go as smoothly as I'd hoped... I plan to do another test session and I'll be sure to capture the correct screenshots. I did get the one "head wind" run of the "scimitar" captured with RPM and amps :)
      FYI, off camera while tuning the RPM and amp telemetry I captured the static values of the 6x3.2. 24.4A @ 17,635 RPM. In this flight speed test amps were ±1.0A through each run but RPM was 19,500. During the climb test amps were +2.2A vs static and peak RPM was 18,158.
      No in flight RPM captured but the little yellow 5" x 5 pitch prop in static test did 16.5A @ 21,321 RPM at 630 grams thrust.

    Have you tried a 6 x 4.5 2 blade bullnose on it?

    • @shanesdiy
      @shanesdiy  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      No I have not. Who makes one? Checked with Master Airscrew and APC and don't see that exact spec. In my previous video you can see what I've tested during this test run, several close to that size. Not shown in the videos but I've previously checked a 6x5.5E but it produced less thrust than the stock prop at about the same amps if I remember correctly so I never even flew the AeroScout with it.

    What receiver do you use

    • @shanesdiy
      @shanesdiy  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      This plane is using the Spektrum AR631 that comes with the AeroScout although it has been unlocked and reprogrammed gyro settings. I have upgraded the ESC to the Avian Lite 30A that comes in the newer AeroScouts. For the altitude and speed telemetry data, it is equipped with a Spektrum SkyID remote ID module.

      @tazgrif11 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes, thank you. I have a radio Master boxer, do I have to reprogram the plane in order to bind to it?

    • @shanesdiy
      @shanesdiy  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@tazgrif11 Not sure what you mean. What plane & receiver and what protocol is your Boxer? ELRS or 4in1?
      If you have a clean model setup, just set the correct receiver protocol in the RF setup for the model, set the receiver to bind mode, and then activate bind mode on the transmitter. Might need to hold the tx a few feet away from the receiver. The exact procedure will vary depending on what receiver protocol you are working with.
