We did this job on my Renault scenic 2003 old model (16 years old), and I used your video to do so. I bought the exact same set you used to press the bearing. The main difference was that my bearing would not come out as easy as yours! The “snap” you mentioned as a sign that the bearing was beginning to loosen up was more like 6 little snaps. We had to put so much force on the tool that I was afraid it was going to explode, but it didn’t! We used a really big spanner but it would not butch. After using an impact wrench on the tool, it finally started to loosen up. The rest was “easy”, we worked 2 man strong for 4 hours. It helped a lot that you mentioned the disk sizes 66mm and 71.5mm. The threaded rod from the tool did fit the hole, no problem there. Thank you very much without this video it would be impossible to do this myself. It was a fun job to do! Goed bezig ga zo door!
Very good video. Illustrative, all things that can get stuck etc is in there. Very nice explained, methods and tools etc. Now I am ready to change the bearing in my wife's car, the beautiful little Clio!
I don't have the tools to pull out the bearing, but I think I can do something with a bench vice. These videos are really helpful! I swapped a K4M engine to my renault twingo, and must do some other fixing before showing it to the inspection guys.
Thank you so much for saving me from DIY disaster! I got the tool you use to press the bearings out, and my oh my what a difference it made! Van harte bedankt, nu ben ik van nog éen markt thuis! :)
Johathan, did you carry out the work on a Clio? Did the threaded bar supplied with your bearing pulling kit fit through the hub splined opening? If so, was the threaded bar the standard 7/8" (22.25mm) diameter unit supplied with most bearing puller tools kits? Thanks, Brian
@@TheDutchGarage Thank you for your rapid reply. What is the maximum threaded bar size that you could use to clear the splined hub opening, as mentioned in my post yesterday (see near top of comments)?
Lol I'm back 😂.. this one seems a bit difficult. I don't even have that tool yet, I can't find the exact one on the internet too.. hopefully the one I get works.. fun stuff 🎉🎉
Thank you for the very informative video. Do you know the thread diameter of the bearing tool threaded puller? A 7/8" thread diameter puller seems to be common on bearing puller kits and I fear that may just be a tad over the clearance of the hub splined aperature, as you experienced during your video. I want to know if I need to order a separate M20 threaded bar and deep nuts. Many thanks.
@@TheDutchGarage thanks. Without removing any parts do you know any site where to get the diameter of the bearing? I've been searching forever to find the right one for my spec. I get two alternatives on every site. Diameter 65 or 72mm...
Thanks for the video, have to do my daughter's POS Scenic, LHS bearing ; still have to check,if front or rear... If you pay good ears to it, *it is* an exact science; right turn, load on left, noise on left wheel (s) ---mechanics do it on a straight road, with no close traffic, swerving violently from side to side, have you ever seen formula 1 drivers warming up the tires on the straight?? (STILL, experts only, and YOU MUST check if it is front or rear!! lift each wheel, and TURN IT BY HAND!!!! you will hear the bad one ; you have been warned).
Hey! Thanks for a great video man! I'm going to attempt this on my Clio. What are you saying at 18:44? About the washer? The washer should not rest against the bearing at that point right, but at the hub itself?
@@TheDutchGarage Thanks for your reply man! 👏 But I read that when you press the hub on you should go for a small washer that only rests on the inner ring on the bearing. Is that right?
Nice video, think my dacia stepway 2016 has a driver side bearing problem. Have seen videos using hydraulic presses to remove old bearings and push in new ones, whats the tool you are using to do the job?
Great Video! I have a question. The nut in your FAG part looks the same as the original one, that is with a (washer)ring attached. The one I ordered is from the brand MAPCO, it has a nut that looks different. It is smaller and has no ring, it is just a nut. Is it a good idea to reuse the original nut and apply loctite?
In my experience that caliper slide pin will just stick again because the metal shine is now gone, the surface will have pitting on it and will stick again very soon.
I reckon that bearing didn't last long , you butchered it out causing damage to the hub , next time take the complete hub assembly off and press it out using a press then press in a new bearing . Do it on the bench not under the crank make life easier.

I'm glad that you could get it out. Sometimes they can be really stuck in there. Great job.

The bar I have in the kit is indeed 22mm.

Thanks for that insight. Very informative.

My service history says Front OS hub needs replacing, is it the bearing they are referring too?
Hi, when removing the 'ring' at 16:10, what do you replace that "ring" with ?
I'm trying to understand what im missing... thank you
That ring is a part of the old bearing. You destroy the bearing when you remove it.
@TheDutchGarage I see, that was my guess. Thank you for a great video :) greetings from Sweden
@gustafssonadam good luck 👍

Sound is always a problem, it bounces around in the whole cabin.
Hey great video just wondering where you got the screews which took the outer race off
The tool for removing the bearings you can get on amazon or ebay. Just search wheel bearing puller.
Hello! Great video, a lot of help. Do you know the torque setting for the axle nut?
Hu there, 280nm just replaced the cv joint on the same car yesterday.
Hey! Thanks for a great video man! I'm going to attempt this on my Clio. What are you saying at 18:44? About the washer? The washer should not rest against the bearing at that point right, but at the hub itself?
Or should the washer rest on the innerpart of the bearing when pressing in the wheel hub? Thanks in advance.
@@ParFektion Be sure that the washer is flush with the bearing. if you don't do that then the inner part of the bearing will pop out.
@@TheDutchGarage Thanks for your reply man! 👏 But I read that when you press the hub on you should go for a small washer that only rests on the inner ring on the bearing. Is that right?
@@ParFektion Just be sure that the backsite of the bearing is fully sported by the washer. Be 100% sure it is flush. Then it could be ok.
@@TheDutchGarage Thank you so much! Have a nice day! 😊
Does this bearing matched with twizy also?
What about ABS? 16:49 ABS magnet was removed, did you install new one?
The ABS version has a sprocket like thing on the driveshaft that communicates with the sensor in the hub.
Nice video, think my dacia stepway 2016 has a driver side bearing problem. Have seen videos using hydraulic presses to remove old bearings and push in new ones, whats the tool you are using to do the job?
Hi there, it is just a manual universal bearing removal tool. You can get these one ebay/amazon. Just search on " wheel bearing removal tool"
One question though. You never need to grease new wheel bearings, do you?
correct and you shouldn't use a grinder either, there are tools for that job
These bearings don't need grease.

It is a option, i don't think it is a bad choice if you dont trust the mapco one.
Very good videos.
Thank you!

You sir are brilliant! I never looked at it that way, but you are probably right. Thank you.
Whats the name of the tool you are using at 07:04?
It's called a slide hammer.
@@TheDutchGarage Thank you!
What is the number of the tool at the 3 minute
I'm not sure but 30 or 32mm.
what diameter was the Rod that dont fit in the hub?
I think it was m12. sorry for the late reply.
@@TheDutchGarage thanks. i did it with the rod of a spring tensioner
That is really clever. Need to remember that one.
Is it the same way for a 2007 Clio?
The bearings are the same, the procedure would be similar. But be sure to check the torque specs.
A good video
Thank you.

Car is still running fine. But of course there are always ways to do it better. Do what you think is best.
Not 35 mm torx they are 40mm you cant get 35 in Brit shops and they are 40 anyway you and another vid on here are wrong
Really? Next time I have the car on the ramp i'm going to check that. Thank you for the tip!
Should read car not crank.
