2003 Dallas Cowboys Highlights

  • Finishing 10-6 in Parcells' first season as the head coach, the Cowboys made the playoffs. But apparently, they played so bad in that game (and also at Tampa and at New England) that there wasn't a single play worth remembering. Sorry. But also, it was the rookie seasons of Jason Witten, Terrence Newman, Brady James, and Tony Romo.

Clayton Stewart, its been my favorite Cowboys season ever, I remember them coming off three straight 5-11 seasons and once Parcells came abord I had renewed hope and boy I wasn’t disappointed. Parcells fucked up by switching to a 3-4 the season after.

@Joey BYa he was.always a 3/4 guy and that was his plan from the beginning to make the switch . the only reason he ran a 4/3 that first year was because we didnt have the personnel to run a 3/4... thats why we drafted demarcus ware (3/4 OLB) and marcus spears (3/4 END) i tell you one thing that surprised the hell out of me was when greg ellis made the switch to OLB opposite ware.. he went from a sold DE to a monster in his own right out there.. far more effective statistically playing that stand up LB spot than a traditional DE...

Fond memories of this 2003 team. First year of Parcells and Jason Witten, and Emmitt Smith's return after making the "diamond among trash" comment the year before and then leaving in free agency. And the forgotten #88 Antonio Bryant whom they picked up in the 3rd round from Pitt., and could have been a star had he kept his head on straight. Probably the best Cowboys team since the 1996 season. I believe they started off 7-2 and finished with the #1 defense that season. The offense started out strong but faded down the stretch. Seeing only the highlights makes you forget how limited Quincy Carter really was. Pretty sure they lost to New England 12 - 0 that year. Made the playoffs but were knocked out by Carolina whom they had beaten during the season. Carolina went on to lose to New England by 3 points in the Super Bowl, with the infamous Janet Jackson wardrobe malfunction at half time.

It's also kind of cool to see the link between the last players of the 90s Super Bowl era (Allen, Adams, Woodson...even Emmitt Smith and Brock Marion playing against the Cowboys) and current/recent players like Witten and Romo. Makes the dynasty feel like not that long ago.

    • @gregoryhoward7594
      @gregoryhoward7594 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

I agree on one thing. I was hoping Payton would become our head coach.
No coach makes a player look good, just like no qb can make a receiver look good.
The players still have to execute.
Yes... coaches can call some bad plays, but that is a reflection on the coach.
The same with good plays as far as play calling is concerned.
But coaches don't make players look good.
If any coach HELPS a player it is their position coach.
But again... the player has to execute.
And with this being a team sport a lot of other players come into play.
I think the Cowboys made a mistake bringing back Glenn in playoffs after being out at the end of the regular season because of injury.
You can see he wasn't the same and I believe is part of the reason we failed.

It's crazy to think what would have happened if Carter had just stayed away from smoking weed. I highly doubt that Romo ever sees the field as a starter, unless there was an injury. I'm not sure the Cowboys would have even brought Romo in for a look, and he probably ends up in Denver. I have a good friend who's a 49ers fan and he was so aggrevated that it looked like Dallas was getting ready to reload with Quincy right after Aikman had retired.

Thanks for these awesome highlights for one of my favorite Cowboys teams coached by Parcels. Glenn, Galloway, Bryant, Witten were some serious weapons. Parcells squeezed every ounce out of this squad. The special teams esp were a big factor across all these highlights. That is the sign of a well disciplined and coached team. I forgot how much he stuck to the run to set up the play action deep balls which Quincy thrived in so well. Literally every pass was play action. Dak is also much better in play action than just slinging it from the shotgun.

If we had a legitimate QB this year we win 13 games. We were stacked at WR Terry Glenn, Joey Galloway and Antonio Bryant. Also great receiving FB in Richie Anderson. Jason Witten didn't breakout until the next season and our RB was bottom of the barrel in Troy Hambrick.

Super Sexy Sega If they would of had a legit running back, not some cab driver, they would of won 12 or 13 games and made a legit run, that defense was legit, the pass offense got figured out and they couldn’t run it well during the second half of that season and in the WC game.

I read that Parcells got rid of Carter in favor of Testarverde because Carter failed a drug test. But Carter did have a nice arm.
At the time of 2003, I was living in Houston and going to college down there, so the only games I would see of the Cowboys were of the old Monday night games on ABC or Sunday night on ESPN. Rarely would one of the local affiliates down in Houston would show a Cowboys game. Quarterbacks under center, running backs taking 20+ carries, defenders that actually tackled, special teams making a difference, physicality being celebrated! Man these were the days when American football was still played the way it was intended to be played, hard, physical, and with relentless effort. Then Roger Goddell came along. Now the game barely resembles what it once was. Watching old films like these makes me happy and sad at the same time.

@@deucepickle2091 that's definitely a valid point... I think he made some real progress from his first 2 years on the league.. its kinda laughable to think that they couldn't really decide between him and Chad Hutchinson??🤣🤣🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️ but ya it was that close because Quincy lacked a lot of basic fundamentals.. the fact that Chad gave up football to go play pro baseball, couldn't cut it there and tried to go back to football at the highest level, and quincy still couldn't outright win the job.. lol but you could definitely see his progress though for real.. I loved his pocket movment.. it was nice and subtle and then he'd throw a strike to a receiver.. ya if he hadn't gotten caught up with drugs and continued to make progress, we probably never hear about Romo.. but when Romo took over in 06 you could definitely see that he was a far better QB than Quincy had been a couple years before.. just in his understanding on the field.. even Darren Woodson told Parcels in practice that Romo was the guy and that's when Quincy was the starter and nobody even knew who Romo was lol

Got slackers who barely put in the effort and got again the most out of them. This is why Parcells is in the hall of fame.
