This is a parable that tell us to increase what God has given us of the fruits of the Spirit at the time of conversion. Producing the fruit of the Spirit is the job of a christian, this are the treasures in heaven Jesus tells us to accumulate.
"Go therefore and make a disciples of all nation, ..Jesus said". Shear the Gospel so many will be saved. I think, it is the most important for the Glory of God!
Thank you for this Steven, for some reason I am fascinated by this parable, yours is a good simple explanation of what must surely be one of the most misunderstood of Jesus's parables, it seems hard to reconcile the idea of profit with Gods purpose for us all but I think the key to understanding this parable is trying not to confuse financial profit with being a useful " profitable" servant of God.
But the question is, why didn't Jesus put the parable in the other way around? Why didn't he put the one with ten talents bury them down and the one with one talent multiply it?
I thought and still do that both parables are solely talking about condemning usury and usurers. First two men have increased their investments at the same rate which alludes they have lent and collected interests at the same rate as has been common in their area. The third servant has done justice by keeping the money. I can assume they had tasks even before having been entrusted that portion of money, so he has been carrying out his tasks and keeps the money he has received intact_ to me the third person is an honest man. Also the parable mentions usury, which we know what an evil mechanism is, and how usury makes the rich richer and the poor poorer. In fact, he was wise to burry the money, because if he had invested it he would have lost it to the other two who had more than him; hence, he would have had nothing to return! The third one also appears to be a brave man to describe the owner as someone who takes what doesn't belong to him_ of course he is such a man for suggesting usury, he wants them to capitalize over others calamities, to buy them in the long run for having solved their issues in the short term. He is obviously quite dumb also for giving the first two such proportions in return. The first two have both doubled what they were given, even though unjustly and by usury, but at least they have both done at the same rate, why is the first one getting more reward than the second!? I am so amazed how so many people are interpreting these parables in the opposite direction!
I think i agree with you, i read a book "Christian Economics" by Ron Mckenzie-kingdom watcher, its an alternative interpretation regarding this parable...
I thank God he is teaching Bible, but I disliked the lecture based on style and interpretation. He lacked substance and teaching techniques. He avoided Greek definitions and didn't define the talent of their culture. This parable is much more important than his perspective. Expository teaching is the best way to convey parables. Bless him for what he gave us though. He is on our side, and he tried. In short, a parable is an earthly story, with a heavenly meaning. The suffix para means to lay along side. So Jesus would lay a story along side a spiritual truth. For more teaching, follow Minister Mike on Facebook. Dr. Michael O. Williams.
Sorry Steven...using a disgruntled workers attitude towards his earthly master is a poor illustration of the parable....workers often are left without wages to feed their families that isn't fair ......There is no love in that situation...there is love in John 3.16 for GOD so loved the world that HE GAVE HIS son ..that tells me that god is love and its his nature to love ....so we get Christ the one talent is in itself an abundance of gods love ....when we apply gods love to others love increases in the souls of others...and transforms the world, love grows when we apply what WE have RECEIVED FOR CHRIST often the church doesn't preach how Christ taught us to love ....and so god is often presented as a hard taskmaster not a self giving divine entity whose divine nature compels love in the world...so its no surprise that the churches are empty ....we have harsh unfair capitalist bosses...and now we are expected to view Christ in a similar way at least according to some religious preachers...the man with the one talent represents the bishop , the parish priest, who presents Christ as an extension of his earthly prejudices and doesn't preach ,in the name of Christ , the divine grace and love of god... as presented to us by the actions of Christ especially towards the exploited and oppressed .
I’ve been posting on various different TH-cam channels and I can most certainly relate to getting this parable wrong. But I’m concerned...Bible talents or bible gold = bible knowledge 1) born again=resurrected now of just and unjust. I am the resurrection. We believe you will just die unless you have the spirit 2) fire baptism is a baptism of suffering that every apostle went through 3) next thing we are looking for is the latter rain church, a church in divine order similar to the church we had in acts. Jesus’s money is knowledge that has to be earned and should be traded.

They were given talents according to their abilities.
*5 talents doubled to 10 *
It's about faith. Explaining takes a bit.
Thx for this, it really helped me understand this parable.

For a guy who starts out saying a parable should not be read to produce political ideology, he certainly turns this one in an anti-Marxist direction
But Mandela was not saved
man i want my 14 minutes back

A fairly moral man?
He's talking about fruit.
You should listen to Fr Casey on this parble. Only the third man is the good one....
His take on lazy workers and owners sounds like it’s shaped by his culture… which is horrible!
Nelson Mandela "exemplified many biblical traits"? You've been drinking from the cool-aid too much
Mandela was not saved
I don't feel edified by this ministry.
