The female vocalist, Jessika Kenney, is featured more heavily on track 3, Cleansing. She is also present much more on one of their later albums, Celestial Lineage. Thuja Magus Imperium being a fantastic track off that album with her vocals present. Glad you guys dug the song, and were able to actually feel and vibe with the music. Wolves in the Throne Room are an excellent band.

    The lyrics:
    The torment has ended
The beast has done his work
Great fires rage outside of this wooded sanctuary
But soon they will be quenched by a purifying rain
The embers of the ceremonial fire burn to ash
A new warmth stirs within the center of the earth
I am alone here no more
The wood is filled with the sounds of wildness
The songs of birds fill the forest on this new morning
This will be my new home
Deep within the most sacred grove
The sun god is born anew
I will lay down my bones among the rocks and roots of the deepest
    Hollow next to the streambed
The quiet hum of the earth's dreaming is my new song
When I awake, the world will be born anew

the long song length is typical for a lot of atmospheric black metal bands. I suggest checking out "Weaving the Thread of Transcendence" by Mare Cognitum for some really melodic tremolo picking and fantastic atmosphere. Seriously the ending gives me goosebumps every time.

Glad to see you enjoyed the song. I figured when you reacted to that first Agalloch song so well that this would still be up your alley despite the length of it.
I’ve seen this band perform this song twice now and it’s a spellbinding experience if you can get lost in the music.
As others have said, they have other songs where the female vocals are more prominent. “Cleansing “ on this album is basically half female vocals and half black metal. Tracks from their first album have them more integrated.

Love those bands! Borknagar, got into them through Blackened compilation. That's where I got "Abigor - Scars..." . Borknagar song was Dawn of the End. I think Garm (Krystoffer Rygg) on vocals at that time? He's been killer on Ulver. That guy's crazy talented, just like Mike Patton.
And not to forget Arcturus "To Thou Who Dwellest In The Night" and im not sure if "Wintrey Grey" was on Blackened, but great song. Basically compilations 1 and 2, both double CDs are how i got into black metal. Also a few others like Holy Darkthrone (tribute).
Ancient, I got into, when internet was new in my country, late 90s, but I started using it in 99/2000 and ran into Ancient video with "Deadly Kristine", God Loves the Dead, but there was another song with Kimberly Goss, who's been in a lot of 90s black metal songs or bands. Also, her project Sinergy was great with Alexi from COB, but, their music video was cool.
@Brendo haha an essay on You Suffer? Qow! That would be killer to read! : D

    • @deadliestassassin3092
      @deadliestassassin3092 6 ปีที่แล้ว

Yeah all those bands are great. The blackened compilations are amazing. I have vol. 1 and 4. I got those back when i first got into black metal. The 90's was an amazing period for black metal. Yeah Kimberly Goss was on the Cainian Chronicle album by Ancient. Same album the song Homage to Pan is on. 1 of the songs i requested. They did a video for Lilith's Embrace. Lord Kaiaphas was there singer back then. I have Sinergy's 2nd and 3rd albums. I really love To Hell and Back album. Yeah Borknagar is amazing. Garm sang on the first 2 and Vortex sang on the 3rd and 4th albums before joining Dimmu Borgir. Another awesome band was Old Man's Child. Galder was the singer/guitarist now plays in Dimmu Borgir. Pagan Prosperity and Ill Natured Spiritual Invasion albums are the best.

From Norway myself, growned up with this music and the mindset, but you should know one thing: When you grow up to this kinda music, well, your mind start working against something, but still produce some kinda beauty later in life. You know that story about parents have to tell their kids `bout life and death, well, I think most emotional minds have an backgrond in excatly that. Be wise, read your horozion.. Only pain can create such beauty(DHG).. I totally support all religions. Thats a good thing in the end, and in life.. It can help all those in need... But my childhood spooned me to understand people, the world, the feelings I should have way more than an regular hit-in-the-face-song. Be careful ... your Kid(I`ll reckon Children) can quickly be the opposite of what you are. whispering out that tale cuz I got 2 of my own. I`m also an musician. Atmospheric Black Metal (anything atmospheric or ambient, really) is best when you are in your own mind. In a dark room, closed eyes, however you wish to experience it. Being connected to the sound (and lyrics if you want them) just takes new heights that way.
    More recommendations for this style:
Thy Light "In My Mourning" and "The Bridge"
    Ghost Bath "Golden Number"
Deafheaven "Dream House" and "Night People" (one is typical ABM, the other is a beautiful piano ballad)

As a pantheist, I really enjoyed your perception of God being present (in one way or the other) in the creation. I feel that however you put it, all of science, philosophy and religion always lead to that conclusion or assumption in some way or another. Thus I don't see pantheism as being in opposition to eg Christianity or science, but rather a perspective on how we all eventually can reach an (at least partial) understanding of the nature of existence through being, experiencing and reasoning.
I didn't know I needed a Christian analysis of various metal, but I'm always here for good theosophy/theology, philosophy of religion and black metal :) Glad to have found your channel!

A Looming Resonance or Queen of Borrowed Light are good songs with more female clean vocals.

These guys Wolves in the Throne Room, used to own a bar downtown, Obsidian, where I live. They had amazing acoustics and all but they over charged on drinks and food and I can't think of a single good band that played there, only attracted hispsters. It closed down a few months back.

Swansong for a raven - Cradle of filth. This is a sequel to her ghost in the fog one of the songs that started the channel, so its fitting if you guys do it before the end of the year 😎

Please listen to Thuja Magus Imperium next!
And for more bands like this think about listening to Winterfylleth, Deafhaven, Abigail Williams, Drudkh, Hope Drone, Downfall of Gaia. If you're in the mood for a random pick for more atmospheric black metal.

Christians react to isis may be the greatest clickbait title of the 2010s.
Literally any song off of panopticon or oceanic would be so awesome. One band I probably saw live more than any other.
      Or some sumac!
Or some mammifer just to grate on some people...

Late to this discussion, but Jessika's lyrics at the end were "When I awake, the world will be born anew." Now if the community could help to decipher the lyrics to Face in a Night Time Mirror parts 1 & 2, I would be very grateful. LOL.

I would like a lot to see you reacting to Angra - The Shadow Hunter.
Angra is one of the most important bands in the Power metal boom in the 90´s along with Nightwish, Rhapsody, Blind guardian, iced earth, gamma ray. On the other hand, along with Sepultura, they are the main metal bands from Latin America. For these reason it would be awesome to see a reaction from Angra because they are not just another meta band, in some way they represent another culture, another way to see and to live life, and of course another way to make music. Saludos!

I tell ya one thing. Black metal the way it's played his very trumpet at times. Can put you into a state very few genres can. Sludge metal, prog, maybe a few others can. But black metal and even post black metal are a different beast
