  • This is the documentation of the removal and rescue of an original 1969 Chevrolet Camaro Z/28 SCCA racer that had been sitting in a barn for just over 40 years. Once raced by Ken Stoddard just about everywhere east of the Mississippi. It had all the documentation, including the original factory diagrams to convert the car to SCCA racer.

It actually wasn't as bad as it seemed. It needs quarters and some front sheet metal, but floors, doors, roof, most of the firewall is ok.

It's a good thing we have people who collect and store things away else there would be no exciting finds today. Car eminently restorable and comes with history and provenance. A truly worthy project and a future show stopper in full SCCA guise. Great work guys!

Depends, if you do everything yourself, you'll be looking at like 20-30k on parts including a new engine/trans and a full year of work. If you let some shop do it for you, you'll be looking at 100/130 k.

I bought a 67 that had been sitting for over 35 yrs , it needed everything. But my wife and I had more fun bringing it back to life. It's not about the money it's about the experience and enjoying it afterwards.

After reading the comments one could always tell who has restored restored cars, trucks, motorcycles, ect. The ones who haven't have no vision. They don't realize the love and enjoyment that one gets from bringing something back to life. Nothing is to old or raggidy to a restorer. I've been restoring for close to 50 years and to this day when I look at a car like this one, I see how it will look when finished. It just comes natural. So for those of you who think this restoration is foolish, go watch Barret Jackson on TV. But remember some of those care looked like this car, they also had a good vin plate of a valuable car.

Awsome! Someone has to restore the one that not a soul would touch! Great so how about you stick to the perfect restorations! The best ride from the best state, climate, one car owner. Sounds to me that either we had or have actually picked some friends along the way! Hopefully your right hand partners particularly the one that would scout out theis #1 off the showroom floor. Oh and a maybe send this one out for body fab and especially paint. We will never hear the end of the filler and paint work from your magical body gooru! You understand the 2 reds that would make this possible! They both happen to be ripping their one off track car #1 rolled off the assembly line classics, up or around the old race track! Possibly seen it brought back to life at the old stinky beer bowl they grew up at! By the way forget about the truck and placement of weight and wet muck it had to go thru. Probably could order all the parts necessary to build it brand new anymore! Crew to do the new work will be easier to convince of a new build/clone! Ha! I just remembered the low pro wide Hoosier 410 extra grooved m/t's. Should go on the ditch side or inside if you only turn one way😄
Shire could use some old innerwebing coldy assistance's to find you some of that! Draged around some wicha ditga drink for 40 plus year's! Send that so called piece of swiss cheese out of the pre Madonna shop for sure. Or I would love to have a classic. I will take it!🙌 Thank you Richy Rich!

each of those guys could have pitched in $20 and hired a flat bed tow truck to exhume that thing from the barn instead of breaking their backs pushing and pulling. lol :D

Sadly there wasn't enough room for a rollback to get down the narrow path. We tried.

I don't get it, why did they not hook the truck up closer to the car thus transfering more weight to the truck for more traction.

    • @AutoArchaeology
      @AutoArchaeology  7 ปีที่แล้ว

Cause the grass was to wet closer to the barn.

The only thing I don't understand is why no one had the foresight to get in the back of the truck so it could get more traction?

The ranger doesn't have lockers. Drape rags and towels over the tow strap/chain it takes the energy out of it so it doesn't kill you when it snaps. You're welcome.
And you all seem like the type to not cross your safety tow chains on a trailer, the whole point, their only purpose, is to land the trailer on the chain "X" if the ball fails. If they're not crossed you're just dragging suicide when the ball fails.

I hope you share it with us when it’s done just to show everyone a turd can be polished. I did an old ford truck like that once an every body told me I was crazy, but now everyone wants it . Once you’re told that you got to finish what you started, it took me three years. It’s going to take you a while to my friend. Have fun at it

    Hey Folks !!
This was made, for racing..Not your Average parking Lot fluff pot Z/28..
It was bought new, prepared for the track, and used what it was originally built for!!..to restore this to factory specs, would ruin it!!..
IT NEVER WAS A STREET CAR!!!
Would any of you- restore a 1965 Shelby GT 350R,, Into A concourse Street Car, bumpers, interior, and all??
I think Not!!...This historical RACE CAR deserves to be restored as a RACE CAR...

  • @bradbeall392

That’s entirely too much time & work to invest in that car - if it can still even be called a car. The trunk & roof panels look like they might be salvageable, but that’s about it. You can see that the front sub-frame is bent, the doors have been butchered, the back bumper is twisted, and GOOD LORD - THOSE QUARTER PANELS!!! No engine, trans, front clip, or interior, and if it has a 12-bolt rear-end, it’s probably gonna need some work, and it probably had something like 4.50 gears in it since it was used as a race car. If it’s going to be a parts car, I hope the buyer got it for next-to-nothing. Personally, I wouldn’t have given that shell a second look, and I’m used to restoring Pennsylvania cars that have been salt-rotted up to the windows. Good luck!
