Hi guys I just wanted to Introduce to you my other Channel "Kirkman's Academy" - which i'm just getting started. It's a go-to channel for simple explanations for hard to grasp subjects such as physics, maths and chemistry etc. Here is the link: www.youtube.com/@kirkmansacademy/videos . Thank you so much for looking, and if these topics interest you then I hope to see you the there. Many thanks indeed. Craig 😊👍
Thank you! Huge help. I love how site has short vids, which get me started, basic overview. And then in-depth vids which give much more comprehensive understanding. Excellent site.
Good tip.. I find this can also be the problem if the diaphragm is starting to go stiff.. sometimes by adjusting the h jet it gives it a little more fuel to run right
Many Thanks Craig. Great explanation and demonstration. Hopefully I can get my KIAM working as the fault seems exactly as you've explained. Thanks Again mate.
Before I go turning any screws for adjustment...my TSC Polan 18 inch Wild Thing was brand new, stored fuel empty when not in use, and stored in my house & inside its factory black plastic case. After my last good use of it, I had store it, in it's factory case, inside my shed. Weeks later it starts up fine, revs a bit sluggish at first before reving normal. I let it idle for 5 minutes. Trigger is good. However, as I start my cut ( its sharpenned each time I have nicked rock or metal. Only nicking. I'm very observant, yet some old fencing gets in the way on occassion. When sharpenning I inspect the chain mannually running it at top of blade. Motor is completely off. I file each nick down smooth & flush to factory surfaces. ) ...as I start my cut it begins bogging down. As it cuts into a freshly fallen tree, the process is whoafully slow. At full trigger I get no power increase. Never enough torgue to finnish the job properly. I normally cut through ( one pass ) 8 inch diameter fresh fallen trees in about 4 to 6 seconds. This time it took me over 15 minutes on one pass.
I have to say, you are a lifesaver. We recently just suffered thru typhoon mawar on the island of guam. The 5 very tall mango trees in my yard all were knocked over or snapped at the thick bottom branches. I've been trying to get my stihl 025 working for the last 10 days. Nothing worked. Took apart and cleaned the carb, replaced the sparkplug, coil ok, exhaust port ok, airfilter ok, fuel filter ok. But the saw just wouldn't start or it would start and could not keep idle, or bog down. Then I tried adjusting the L screw and idle screw. That didn't help seems like I keep flooding it. Following other YTers small engine advice, still no start. Then I came across your channel which imparted some knowledge and a schematic of sorts on how these carbs work showing What happens when you adjust the H L IDLE SCREWS. it was obvious to me right away that a good starting point is to close up the L screw and see if the saw fires on the H screw alone, if it does, then I can adjust the L screw for the sweet spot and the idle. So I closed the L, pulled the starter on choke and the saw fired on first pull, after a few seconds it started to bog down which tells me to open and adjusting the L screw, which worked to keep the saw running. From there it was a matter of adjusting the L a little open and closed to find the sweet spot, then adjusting the idle to get that correct. It all worked and I'm now clearing the yard of tons of mango limbs, thick as your thighs. However it's going to take awhile of listening to the engine to get a real feel for the adjustments based on how the rpms sound. I feel like I'm the small engine whisperer now. Thanks.
That’s awesome. I’m really pleased you got your chainsaw sorted out. Sounds like a very country where you are from. Where mango trees flourish. Thank you for the feedback. I really appreciate it. Craig 👍
@@TheRepairSpecialist The island of Guam, America's fortress in the Pacific. Typhoon Mawar passed over the Island nearly 3 weeks ago 140 mph (224kph) winds for several hours. Most of the homes are of solid cinderblock or poured concrete, with installed typhoon shutters. But the vegetation gets wiped out, grows back with time.
Thanks Oh I subscribed while watching the video and one about sorting out the bogging. Will soon complete the whole series. I rely on these small engine tools where I live - 2 chainsaws (stihl and echo), 2 waterblasters, 2 generators, 1 bush wacker, lawn mower, and this series saves me a ton of time and money when it needs repair which they rarely do if you maintain and don't abuse them.
Hi Craig, thanks so much for the video. Super clear. My H and my L screws seem like they don’t have a flat (or a positive) head to them, so they seem like they can’t be turned. Is there another type out there? I’m running a B&Q Chinese chainsaw
So mine is wanting to quit when idling, it tries to idle a little but ultimately dies. So I would run the Low out maybe a 1/4 turn? And also it wants to bog under load and I have to back off some, so that would mean I would also adjust the H screw out a little too?
Hello Craig, I can't get mine work whereas it's a brand new (Chinese) chainsaw. On delivery, it worked well several times and all of a sudden it stopped. I checked out the carb (including the metering lever), the lines (vent, fuel, impulse), the ignition coil, the intake manifold (no cracks) even the clutch and the oil pump. No matter what I do with the fuel jet screws, the engine starts and operates for no longer than 2 seconds. As I don't have any Mityvac, I can't know for sure, but would crankshaft seals be the cause by leaking air? In other words, I need advice to identify the cause.
My ms170, a bit hard to start then, when warm, I press the throttle it bogs a bit, then after 2 or 3 seconds picks up speed to cutting speed. There is some hesitation before it "kicks" in to cutting speed. What does this mean? Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Hi. Thank you for your feedback, i really appreciate it. So, are you basically saying that your saw is hard to start? or does it run and bog after starting well?

First things first, clean the spark plug and air filter. Sand the spark plug if the contact isnt a nice metal colour.
Thank you sir. Do you have a video addressing cold-bog? My echo bogs on cold starts only. Once warm it runs well.
Hi. Thank you for your feedback, i really appreciate it. So, are you basically saying that your saw is hard to start? or does it run and bog after starting well?
Very helpful! Subscribed.
Awesome, thank you! 👍👍
