Hi friends, just to clarify: all of this inspo-gathering and shopping happened back in May and June, way before No-Buy July! It just took a while to fit this video into our filming schedule. No-Buy July is still going strong and I'll be posting another check-in soon. Sorry for the confusion! I thought I mentioned in the video that this all happened a month or two ago, but that sentence might have gotten cut when I was tightening up the video (it was originally like 45 min long...le sigh). Thank you for watching!

The sweater with the skirt! YES! It inspires me to do that with my dresses. I primarily wear dresses and leggings because of my fibro. Pain my legs means pants really bother me.

Dare I say it, the outfit looks much better on you than in the original fashion editorial. What a great pair of pants and I appreciate that you took time to style them different ways. I love your tonal dressing, especially with such an assertive colour. A note about dry-cleaning: I am a professional tailor, and you can hand-wash and home clean ANYTHING. I work with some of the most expensive fabrics and garments, and I suggest that you avoid dry-cleaning like the plague. Dry cleaning uses harsh and unpleasant chemicals that are no good for your clothes or skin. Manufacturers put 'dry clean only' labels on garments mostly to cover themselves against product liability claims, often because they have cut corners in the manufacture, not because they have to be dry-cleaned. As tailors working with $5,000 plus garments, we have people who hand-wash client's garments using baby shampoo. Baby shampoo is great for natural hair fibres. It is worth learning now to properly press (iron) garments, since that will preserve your surface finishes and make them look sharp and new. For outerwear such as jackets and coats, you need to wash far less frequently than you might think - only once a year. To make the biggest difference to your clothes, get a soft clothes brush and gently brush your pants, jackets, coats as soon as you get home and take them off. Brushing will remove all of the light surface dirt and pollution that typically happens in cities, and will reduce the amount of actual washing. The garments then simply need hanging up and airing to make them fresh. Sorry for the long comment. Taking control of the clothes washing will give a lot more freedom when deciding what to buy. Great outfit, great vid. Thank you.

Thank you! This is brilliant information. I've always hand-washed dry clean only goods...except for a white corduroy blazer i bought last year...I haven't dry cleaned in many many years. So great to hear it from a professional and I will definitely invest in some baby shampoo!

Thank you for your comment. Good ironing is a key, so I almost never wash tailored clothers made from natural fibers - airing and some textile spray (previously tested on an invisible part). Brushing makes magic, and a good suit brush is a great investment.

Oh my goodness that monochromatic outfit with the red sweater with the trousers 😍 stunning!! Also, as a knitter, I absolutely adore the way you talk about knitwear. It's wonderful to hear you talk so knowledgeably about fibre and caring for knitted garments! And hearing the love and excitement you have about knitwear makes me so happy! I'm not a "professional" knitter by any means but if you ever feel like commissioning a custom-made hand-knit sweater/any piece of knitwear, let me know.

Hannah I loved this video! I also really appreciate you talking fabric and garment care. I think a video on fabric, garment care, and other things you consider when purchasing clothing would be very helpful. I'm trying to little by little convert my wardrobe to fit my new career and stage of life, and would love to listen to you talk on this! I know I would apply those tips personally as I shop for what I hope to be investment pieces and I bet others would too. Thanks for the fun video!

I'm doing the same thing. I've recently realized that a lot of my clothes looked "teenagerish" and I'll be 30 next year. I've been updating slowly trying to be cognizant of fabric content but I've had to do a lot of research on care. Honestly before I started this a little over a year ago I knew almost nothing about the quantities of fabric and how best to care for it.

As someone who is 4'10" this look is basically the same as when I try almost anything from most stores (especially ones that are made typically for 'taller' people like H&M) lol! I think it definitely looks much better on someone tall than someone short! I end up feeling like I'm swimming in cloth! Glad you found something you absolutely love! It looks great on you!
Basically 90% of V necks are like this and are way too low for my short shoulders and not work-appropriate XD!

I've certainly bought children's sizes before! But it can still be tough because I have a woman's shape and breasts.
Buying stuff online is usually a no-go unless I have a good return policy. I will be sure that 95% of the time it will not fit or flatter properly!

I also think it’s good for me to be exposed to styles outside my own because every now and then I bring a new gem back to my comfort zone and have that one little piece of someone else’s style that I adore and work into my existing little fashion world. I adore the color of your pants in this video and the different silhouettes are so interesting in a sense of artistry and illusion. I’m not bold enough to wear that deep of a V neck but honestly it looks stunning on you and that’s making me wonder if I should reconsider… it’s also just nice sometimes to see someone being happy like you are with your thoughtful purchases here

One note about buying second-hand designer garments: I too love the idea, but for those of us not blessed with your long, lean frame, doing so can be difficult if not impossible. Most designers still don’t make clothes in plus sizes, and if they do, I doubt many would end up in the second-hand market or last long there if they did.

I loved this video on SO (and literally sew) many levels. I love awide legged pant and these pants both ways are extremely attractive to me. My body is markedly different than yours in size and shape, but I am already plotting a replication of them on some level. Some of the appeal is the juicy stunning color, but I also feel like the silhouette would be extremely successful in A fabric with a bold print as well.
Thank you for speaking on the importance of how natural fibers can be elevated by being blended with other textiles, especially something like polyamide can add resilience to wool that's worthwhile, both for wearability and care. It's about the longevity of use and wear in your wardrobe.
I truly love to hear you speak on this subject.

I think this is very much proof of ways that fewer nicer things can lead to being more satisfied with what you do buy and own.
The description of how to find the same/similar high quality clothing on the 2nd hand market is very helpful for myself as someone who has very little experience buying online secondhand.
Seeing you try on different combinations in a wardrobe playtime was fun to see, I think the jumper skirt combo was quite glamorous.
Hannah if you're worried about ruining the pants by washing them you could always do a patch test on the belt by dampening a small patch of the belt with water and seeing how it dries.
If that works out you could also gently wash part of belt and watching how it effects the fabric quality and seams.
I look forward to the pants and the jumper's future career in your wardrobe with great interest.

THANK U FOR TALKING ABOUT THE FIBER CONTENT BECAUSE IT IS A NON-NEGOTIABLE PART OF CLOTHES FOR ME X) undirected braindump: I happen to love alpaca, and I can attest that it ages very beautifully compared to my wool knits. It's also way easier to wash than wool; it's a lot harder to felt it. I really like that 100% alpaca relaxes and drapes as you wear it, much like cotton knits do. It makes sense that they'd blend it with polyamide for a designer sweater to help it that retain it's shape. I have a wildly rainbow alpaca hoodie that I got as a hand-me-down. Alpaca can be so warm that I layer it over a long sleeved tee as a lighter winter coat. I run warm, but it way out-performs my old northface fleece. Another fun fact: polyamide is nylon, and it's great as a blend with wool or silk because it can be dyed with the same dies. Polyester and acrylic blends require two different types of dyes to color all the fibers evenly.

Loving your fashion videos! I have been watching your makeup videos for awhile even though I don't wear makeup anymore, ha! Your approach to beauty and thoughtful consumption is refreshing. I appreciate hearing your thought processes around styling and shopping and as a tall/long waisted person it's helpful to see how garments fit you

Thank you for this video! I love it. It's actually a great idea to try a new piece of clothing with your other clothes to make sure if it's suits you and your wardrobe. I will start doing this from now on ❤️
(of course the whole informative content isn't less valuable, especially when you're talking about fabrics!)

That red on red but not the exact same colour. I loved it. I literally gasped at the gorgeousness of it! My heart leapt. I normally would think it’s too close and will clash. But it’s perfect!

I agree, this was a great video idea especially with the focus on reflecting on the possible expectation-vs.-reality slope. However, I wished it would have been posted with some distance to NoBuyJuly. I had hoped that your no-buy would translate to a period of content that was palpably less influenced by the influx of new products, because to me as a consumer of beauty YT it can be challenging at times to be confronted with that percieved abundance in other people's lives, even when they talk so differentiatedly about it like you do. Probably a month is not long enough to let the "queue" of new products in waiting trickle down to nothing so that acutal no-buy-content is the only thing that can be realised?
I would appreciate if you considered this effect when you decide to talk about your NoBuyJuly experience and I hope that for you it all went like intended! ❤

Maybe if it had been a planned no-buy but it was spontaneous, she had videos already lined up and described this issue when announcing it. Good luck with your no buy! Perhaps take her inspiration by diving into your own clothes and fall back in love with what you have, or break down why it wouldn't work for you like she does with her anti-sephora halls!
I want want want that red pants with champaign top but I stepped back and remembered my boobs need a bra and my torso is too short to create that silhouette so I shall just admire like a work of art haha.

These pieces look better on you than on the ad model! Congratulations.
I agree that the sweater will probably be fine with a cool soak in a gentle detergent (shoutout to Eucalan and Soak brands' wash liquid). As a stretch-prone fiber, alpaca (blend) wants to be patted it into the correct shape on a mesh rack or thick towel and air dried. Easy. To minimize any risk of shrinkage, I'd use the coolest water and very little agitating, since you mentioned wishing the sweater were larger than it is.
As a sewing enthusiast and fellow home-washer I strongly recommend against hand washing the pants.
Not just because they're not 100% wool (which depending on specifics can sometimes be washed without warping or felting the fabric.) This scarlet dye might bleed in water. Worse: well tailored trousers contain many unseen components that won't behave alike, and if even one of the interfacing fabrics, the lining, waist tape, or topstitching, shrinks even a tiny bit in the water bath, the entire garment will be ruined. A garment that took dozens of man-hours to weave, cut and sew - isn't it safer to just dry clean it occasionally and spot clean it the rest of the time? A gentle hand steamer also freshens (spot-free) fabric nicely. If worn in winter you could prolong time between dry cleanings by wearing silk leggings underneath. Spoken as someone who'd do a lot to protect a pair of beautifully made, well fitting pants.

I absolutely LOVE this video. I'm a knitter too, and I appreciate the intentionality of your fiber knowledge! I don't want to encourage this during your no-buy, but please consider making this a seasonal series - maybe one outfit per season, or even twice a year (spring/summer vs fall/winter) to make it more affordable?

Hey Hannah! These pants immediately reminded me of my two favorite pairs of pants from a brand called Roucha. The style name is the Praw Pant. They have the double set of belt loops as well, allowing for a lower rise with a drop crotch or a higher rise with the paper bag effect. Looks like they make them in 100% cotton now too! I only own the poly blend fabrication.
This outfit is so killer! Especially the brown bodysuit and red pants.

So... what about a "doubling the vibes"? Basically, just what you did: find the "inspiration image", get either the piece(s) or as close to it as you can while keeping the design details, and then doubling the vibes by integrating those pieces into you current wardrobe, changing the silhouette, playing with color theory, playing with formality over a touch of grunge. Same concept as getting a gorgeous single eyeshadow and exploring all of the looks and moods it can have, the facets of it's personality, outside of the static "inspiration image".

Your fashion videos showed up in my recommended videos and I am so glad they did. Really like your style and view on things. Hope you continue down the fashion lane 😊
That outfit and colour combo is to die for. Great find!
Also if you want to cheat hemming the pants, there are iron on hem tapes. They often come with drapes but are also available for hemming pants.
And I personally never bring any of my clothes to a dry cleaner. I use the hand wash or wool setting on my washing machine and make sure to wash delicate things separately if I am really anxious about the first time washing an item. I have a lot of wool and hand wash / dry clean only clothes. And so far everything is washable in my machine (front loader). Even my wool coats and blazers 🙃

Is there a better garment than a good sweater?
I don’t wear straight sizes, so it’s a little more difficult for me to implement your secondhand strategy, but I was really inspired by how you took the new garments and immediately incorporated them so well into your existing wardrobe. This wasn’t the point of the video, but I noticed how the color palette of your wardrobe is carefully curated. The new pieces seamlessly fit into that color scheme. A good reminder that fashion is seasonal and ever-changing, but personal style is timeless.

The last pink sweater look was my absolute favorite! I'm going to take a page out of your book but do it in the inverse. I have a heavy cotton black sweater that I LOVE and loads of upcycled silk wrap skirts in all sorts of shades of pink with all sorts of patterns.
