Hey Thank you so much for these videos! Funny enough I just upgraded to a Q9550 from a Q6600. For GPU, I went from a HD 4850 to 650 Ti Boost to the current GTX 660. I would never imagine putting a RTX however I'm glad to see it happen.
@@nexus_tech Hahaha no its at stock :( I got the parts for ocing though (better than stock cooler & 520w PSU) but I don't know how yet. I got a ASUS P5Q-E INTEL P45 so I think it can. Just lack of confidence in messing with volts. I would like to oc to 3.00ghz someday, make it into a Q9650. Love the legacy GPU battles!!!
This is the sort of thing I like to play around with myself. I'm a fan of early teens Xeon processors - I have a few Mac Pros lying around that I put all possible operating systems on. I like to push them. (I had a 2006 Mac Pro, upgraded to newer firmware, running a WX5100 in Garuda Linux for a bit - I think I killed that card with that system though, ran so frickin' hot). Higher resolutions draw on the GPU more than the CPU I think - so, in a lot of instances, if the CPU can handle 1080 - the GPU picks up the slack. A comparison between framerates on systems like this would be a cool investigation of that. Awesome video - could have been longer though, but I know your style (succinct, well edited). Bravo.
Hello mate! Thanks, appreciate your feedback, I'm glad you do enjoy :) I never owned any Mac hardware but looks like you had great fun messing about hah! I'm going to introduce "mandatory" tests with each platform, so in 6 months, we can compare results!
nice, maybe you can run some new 3A games.. my old PC is also Q9550 OC 3.73 Ghz, with 16GB DDR2 1066 RAM. and GTX 690, still can run all games which is lunched before 2015...
What ramkit and motherboard do you use? Plan on maybe undusting my old Maximus II Formula with Q9550 installed and see if i can find any ddr2 16gb kits, can’t seem to find any
The .1% lows are horrid due to the cross-die latency since core 2 quads have 2 dual core dies on the same substrate. I assume a core 2 duo would perform worse overall but stutter a lot less.
Used a xeon w3690 untill beginning of this year together with a asus p6t ws pro, which is the same as i7 990x. Yes it does still hold up if overclocked. Went easily to 4.5ghz on all 6 cores. Its still fine for gaming and using a gtx 1070 the cpu never went to full 100% load in games. Upgraded to i5 12600k and overclocked its like 4 times as fast, and the gpu gives around 50% more fps. Besides this the i5 is way more efficiënt, energy usage went down with around 50 kilo watts a month since switching. Loved the x58 platform which started from 2008.
@@mealot7613 50% more fps? gonna call bs on that. Tested overclocked 980ti which is above stock 1070ti in performance and 4,6ghz clocked X5470 from 2007 was already enough to saturate it fully in some games, at 4,5ghz 3690 is about 2.7 times faster than it, and furthermore standard 1070 looses to oc 980ti by quite a bit
@@Rex-tt1vk You clearly do not own a new pc or tested the difference. I did. The faster pci-e slot, more direct communication between cpu and gpu and the way faster cpu do that for you. Did you ever watch any vids here on youtube on tests between cpus? Maybe a cpu does not form a direct bottleneck but it can still hold a gpu back.
I know this video is kind of old now but I know what's wrong with your Q9950 performance numbers. You put it in a DDR2 board. Most of the LGA775 lineup were not able to take advantage of the faster memory offered by DDR3 but the Q9550 is. And it's hungry for that memory bandwidth.
@@humbertoviquez The one Ive been using is the Biostar P43D3 but this one is hard to recommend as you cant overclock or underclock the ram separately to the system bus speed. Any 30 series or 40 series chipset supports both DDR2 pr DDR3 its just a matter of if the manufacturer broke one or the other out to put the ram slots on the board. And yes, P35 express supported DDR3 back in 2007. So did the nForce 780i chipset.
Did you run into any issues trying to make the GPU work in the old system? Since I heard many people new GPUs tend to work in UEFI systems only and not Legacy.
Hi Gorjah, Thanks for watching the video, you have a point, I would normally not use VSYNC during testing. My panel is just 60Hz one, and I was not expecting to get more than 30 at times, I've then aimed to get as close to 60 as possible. No science here 😂
@@nexus_tech haha I see, it's a general comment because I saw the same happening on the previous video. For daily gaming use it is better to enable Vsync but for benchmarking purpose I'd rather have it off.
Very interesting! I'd love to see you gradually testing better and better CPUs until the drops (1% fps) are smoothed out.
Thank you mate! And yes! 1st gen Core i7 coming soon !
오 흥미롭군요
혹시 RTX 3070이나 3080과의 조합도 궁금하군요

Love it! We got nearly the same build. I have the GTX660ti. But only 4GB of RAM initially 8GB but the other socket died.😢

The framerate graph: 🙂
the frame-time graph: 🥵

Q9550 still running as a daily driver. However, I might look into a more suitable card than the Quadro 2000 it currently has.
I must try out this 1600 by 1900 resolution you keep mentioning in your videos 😉
Oh did I mention it again ? haha, Thanks for heads up :)

I really want to see x58 next, an x5690 or i7 990x with an gpu of today. Does it still hold up , the world may never know?
ppl run those 6 cores up to 5ghz, untill 1080ti there is zero to none bottleneck.
lack of instructions is bigger problem now

if i am correct, stalker's game engine only uses 1 cpu core

is it necessary to overclock this cpu or to stay to 2,83mhz for this gpu?

I had to use Nvidia driver 472.12 cuz the newer ones don't work on win10. That's the only problem I had with a GTX1660Super.
HP or Dell SFF 775 Mobo Q9550 8gb or 16gb ram and a cheap Low profile GPU. Low power low price! Great for older games!
Does this use a ddr2 or ddr3 board? I wonder if that would affect performance
Hello mate, this ASUS board was running fast 1066MHz DDR2 memory. I think supported DDR3 was only marginally faster
@@nexus_tech oh, okay.
oh Tom-B raider my favorite
It's an awesome game that runs great on older HW! What's not to like :)

I don't see the point in testing games with Vsync on as a default.
You are not showing the full potential of the hardware.

this card isnt a 4k card, i would have liked to see the restults at 1080 or 1440
Yup, I've got plans to make a build feat 3060ti 🙂
pls overclock this cpu to 3,4 GHz i know what im talking about.
