English armada once ruled the race tracks. Luckily they still look good and sound even better.

That Matchless is just downright beautiful.
Looks like something MV Agusta or Gilera would have made.

I remember being at Brands Hatch in the early sixties. The bikes lined up, riders ready to bump start.... all was quiet until the flag dropped ... Then the ever increasing roar of open mega exhausts would fill the air as the bikes thundered by....That sound soon to be surpassed by the raucous howl of Honda four and six...Great days, great memories..

Damn. They make me feel old, but I do LOVE the sound of an Open Mega Exhaust Note.... and not a Pudding Basin helmet anywhere to be seen.

I think most of us at the time thought the 7R and G50 the better looking bike, but the Manx had the edge on performance.in the hands of Derek Minter at Brands it was hard to beat.I do remember theFrancis Beart Norton’s in their green livery looked great.i recall his rider as being Joe Dunphy My favourite was local riderRon Chandler on the Tom Kirby7R&G50.Halcyon days

@@goran2003 there's no doubt at all in Agostini's quality as a rider , he won too often for it to be a fluke lol, but the MV Augusta was a really superb bike much as I hate to say it. In the very early 70's I used to get the Motorcycle News and they raved about the MV's design and how outdated the single's of Norton and the rest were, and to be true they were right. The singles had had their day and multi cylinder bikes were the way to go.

My older brother raced a Matchless G50 with a Seeley frame and tuning, around 1970. Long mega exhaust, wonderfull sound. I remember one time at the IoM, (MGP, I think), he cut it a bit fine down Bray Hill - when the suspension bottomed he flattened part of the exhaust pipe on the kerb on the right, just where they put the tiny cameras now for the tv coverage. I think the speed trap was at the Highlander then and he clocked about 127mph. The 2 strokes were really dominating then so it was the end of an era. Happy days.
