    I grew up on/off the US Naval Academy grounds; my father was stationed there his entire 20 years. One day in Spring of 1973 walking between Bancroft and Dahlgren Halls, my best friend and I heard a sonic boom and roaring of jet engines. Where we stood we couldn't see the source but it was literally an echo chamber; the sound had three buildings to bounce off of. Spectacular but nothing like when we'd run to the end of Bancroft Hall and found a Harrier hovering about 50' above. We were directly beneath in what were virtually hurricane winds :) The Harrier had evidently come in extremely fast then vectored to a very sudden "stop". I always loved the sonic booms, from test flights out of Naval Air Station Patuxent River, to the Blue Angels' annual shows. The top speed of the Harrier is just under 650 mph, but I don't believe that affects the occurrence of a "boom". Whatever actually transpired, it was unforgettable :)

    The inaugural running of the Brickyard 400 in Indy had a special military flyby. A Harrier II came in over the track in a very slow forward flight. He then went into a stationary hover and then slowly went over the stands in turn 1. He was probably 100 feet over the track. The noise was so loud that you felt it in your chest rather than hear it with your ears. He hung there for about 10 seconds, pivoted then shot out back the way he came back in. Being an Indy native, I have seen dozens of military fly by's, but that was by far the coolest thing I ever saw.

    You don't need water for runway or short takeoffs, it's limited so you should save it for when you really need it for when you're heavier.

    Good video 👍. Love the Harrier. How did you get the wide FOV?

      I adjust the zoom as needed using the zoom view binds

    Nice video... did you not do a vertical take off because of the load weight? 👍🏼

    • @RaptorRising
      @RaptorRising  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yeah that's right. It's not usually something harriers do anyhow as it really limits what you can carry otherwise.

    The game looks gorgeous with your setup. do you mind posting your setting?

      I'll see if I can do a setup video, but I basically have all the eye candy turned on

    Mind if I ask what TrackIR Speed and Smoothness settings you use? I'm still almost a year later trying to get my TrackIR to work smoothly with my setup, without being too twitchy or sensitive.

    • @RaptorRising
      @RaptorRising  ปีที่แล้ว

      Not at all! I calibrated my curves to the end of my screens all around. A set profile doesn't really work since monitors are not one size fits all. I think I started with the precision profile and adjusted the curves from there. Hope that helps!

    • @Solo6R
      @Solo6R ปีที่แล้ว

      @@RaptorRising Yeah my viewing angles are fine, but it's just too sensitive. Looking at an MFD or something it moves just ever so slightly with my head. No one can hold perfectly still like you do I guess? When you're looking around or focused on something the view tends to stay smooth and not so shaky like mine.

    • @RaptorRising
      @RaptorRising  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Solo6R try using the smooth template, should make things a bit easier as well

    What is the water for, engine cooling?

    • @jjsemperfi
      @jjsemperfi ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sort of. It’s water injection that allows the engine to run at a higher rpm and not damage it (for short amounts of time).

      I'd love to but it's very difficult to nail down time unfortunately. Part of the reason why I only upload once a week or so. That being said I should probably setup a discord for that! Maybe even do a community livestream for when we hit 1K!

      @@RaptorRising Yea I get that, scheduling has been the nightmare for years. But if by chance we can get it to work, I'd be down to do a flight with you. Thanks for replying also 🤘🏼

    had this mod since it released, it's a horribly developed mod, almost every feature is buggy, too bad ya can't get a refund, I imagine the Strike Eagle will be poorly developed just like their AV-8

    • @therealtjpek
      @therealtjpek ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I'm curious to see which bugs you're talking about, because oftentimes what players report as bugs are just user error... That being said, the Harrier has a history of not exactly being the best DCS modules. On the other time, the Mirage 2000C, also made by razbam, is one of the best. And the guys who work on the 2000C also work on the strike eagle, so it's very likely that the SE will be a really good module too. Afaik, the harrier is due for a Mirage 2000C style overhaul once the Strike Eagle releases

    • @RaptorRising
      @RaptorRising  ปีที่แล้ว

      @TJpek I agree. The harrier has come a very long way. The other thing people don't understand is the Marines are cheap and a lot of the avionics packages have been backdoored in to the harrier so it feels super janky because of that. Harrier is a solid plane!
