Cleet, you can turn off the nanny’s in the Tesla. Just go into the settings. Controls > Autopilot > Obstacle Aware Acceleration & Controls > Settings > Driver Assistance > Collision Avoidance Assist
Obstacle aware is good, let's not make these events about the crashes

Sounded like in his interview after the Tesla was in a mode that was braking for him anytime the corvette got close, so if he figures out how to turn that off would have likely won
Nah, it autobraked on him. Track mode turns the electronic nannies off and lets the car run free. Guess Cleetus didn't find that setting. Tesla would have won for sure.
@@fragge2926 if he keeps running Tesla's or having visitors running them he should get a super charger at the track to top off between rounds just like the gas cars ice down and prep between stages.

With said - I feel all cars need 2 motor 300hp electric assist on front drive to get those big motors to 1.8 0-62- Long as loud as hell !! To me that’s the win using assist- like sf90

@@StavTech Have you driven one? I’m guessing not. There are not a lot of cars out there, no matter how much power they’re making can take a Tesla from a dig to about 90-100 on any street. They have instant full torque with zero wheel spin on just about any surface. There aren’t many gas cars that can even compare to, 2 second 0-60 bone stock no effin joke! I have a 1000+HP Fox mustang (Dart 427 billet 88mm) and unless I have slicks already hot and ready, there is no way in hell I could take a Plaid on the street. I’m telling you these cars are unlike anything out there.

Blazer driver would be dq'd and kicked out at any other facility. He had zero control of his vehicle.

I think what the zr1 noticed at the last that the freedom factory isn't an inside line track. Its like homestead Miami the higher line is faster, more bank, better grip and can carry more speed. The inside like looks really rough and really tight, a lot harder on tires and higher makes it much easier for RWD. Inside isn't always the fastest way around a track.

I almost forgot about this. I just gotta say, that Audi driver HAD to be pissed, doubt they come back. It was entertaining I guess, BUT that Blazer was beyond reckless if we're being totally honest. You aren't gonna have Mclarens and crap coming, or even nice imports, if you allow people to keep driving like he did. Just my 2c. Everyone else respected that the in and outside lines have disadvantages, but the disadvantage for the inside line is supposed to be that you can't dive into the turn as hard because another car is going to be there. This guy drove as if it was a solo run.

Curious on people's thoughts of a slightly staggered start to even up the outside car? Just something I was thinking about .
Rock paper scissors determines who wins the race no matter how slow or fast your car is with the current rules in place.
Yes, that is definitely what needs to happen, the outside car should get at least a 5ft advantage to start with
I’m sure there is some mathematical formula to determine the stagger based on the turns radius….but I guess rock paper scissor is more cleets style.
I like that too, but then you have to have two lanes painted on the track. Annd you obviously will have to disqualify people who leave their lane (or re-run the race).

Spectator Drags have been going on for YEARS at Elko Speedway in Minnesota. I've done it with my raptor and it was a ton of fun!

They have a weekly racing series all summer and once or twice a month all summer they have what's called "Eve of Destruction" where they bring in all sorts of entertainment between the local racing. Towards the end of the night before the feature heats we have the spectator drags.

It was a good race but really think it should've rolled back to the ZR1 v Audi as you said taking it easy opened the door when it was basically shut. The ranger was unreal and as for the DSM that was seriously quick, built to blow I reckon he certainly gave it everything. Some very fast cars showing up now you could almost make that a weekly event.

Well, the ZR1 is a purpose built track weapon with carbon ceramic brakes, race suspension and all the aero. The Tesla is a comfy family sedan on air suspension, plain brakes and no aero.

Here's an idea: Separate AWD and RWD classes.
A separate RWD class might really open up competition.
It would require some serious attendance. Not enough cars currently to run multiple classes. Also having multiple payouts would be tough.

Great idea, starting to lose interest with this electric powered vs gas powered. And then Awd vs Rwd. Gets old to watch. But definitely separate classes would be nice
Why? A rwd car won it all.
Yes, they probably would need more cars, they only had 20 or so and to split that into 2 class wouldn't work, but maybe separate classes would convince more people to come out.
True, an RWD car did win, and there is a clip in this video where the guy in the Talon told Cleetus not to split up the cars.
Anyway, there are pros and cons.
I’m sure there are a hundred other comments, but apparently putting the Plaid in track mode disables the cameras/safety features that cut the power when it sees the other cars getting too close.

MAD props to whoever setup that Talon. That thing was launching like crazy!! I also really like that Cleetus included the new EV world to the channel, it´s very entertaining how the Tesla compares in these conditions!
I don't mind seeing the Tesla running out there at all! It's new tech which means a learning curve for the world. Best thing about it was running the car for the fun...not the winnings. The cars being brought to the event are amazing and each one built with different budgets and purposes but all being competitive and putting on one hell of a show. Great video guys. I can only imagine the fun of actually being there in person! If I ever get a chance to visit Florida the FF will be on my list...well above any Disney type place lol. Keep up the great work.
That blazer was an excellent driver to know to pedal it when spinning out, most drivers would've panicked and hit the brakes. Kudos to him
Edit: In no way am I defending the driver of that blazer, but Cleet puts on these events to give a show to his fans, and the guy did exactly that. He for sure drove a little hard, but he got it under control when shit hit the fan. I'd bet he drives like that all the time, though, according to the comment his buddy made about him.

No the driver was crazy and mostly out of control, he’d spun many times… would hate to race along side him as he’d likely wipe me out, hence some racers backed out of it to save damaging their car against his.
Props to him for full sending it and still being in relative control, but at the same time that's just being reckless. A good driver should be able to keep their vehicle under control.

Man that Tesla/Talon race was amazing. Let's hear it for that DSM.. Using a drag calculator that car it making 700+ horsepower run after run and putting all that power down too. I bet that if he met the Tesla last instead of right at the beginning it would have gone rounds.
He was also putting his own "collision detection" on during the race, in a way. Poor guy just built the damn thing. He hadn't put in enough seat time yet to spook the Tesla's computers by getting a little closer and more aggressive. That thing is a monster, and with a little seat time it'll eat everyone's lunch.

In Track Mode it allows you to reduce stability control, removes the object-aware acceleration that was stopping him from accelerating too hard with a car in front, lets you select the front/rear power bias, and stiffens up the suspension.

That was my thought, close as hell, and it slows. But from what I understand, you can turn that off, so we still loose 🙃
That's because it's in cruise mode and not track mode. If he was using the right settings, proximity would not have mattered.
Which makes no sense since the Vette never got anywhere near him. Every other car had gotten really close to the Tesla in the previous races especially the Talon. Take a look at the PDR video of the race. Just saying, on top of that the vette wasn’t being pushed to max.

I fully suspect your issue wasn't the Automatic Emergency Braking, or Lane Departure settings, but was most likely the Obstacle Aware Acceleration. It will limit your power when it detects something near the front of the vehicle. This was added by Tesla to give people a bit more warning and chance to let off the accelerator before going full send into a building.

Plaid doesn't give full power until the steering wheel is pretty much straight. That might have been an issue. Wonder if it's different in track mode though.

Yeah he didn’t have it set up right. The Plaid has the fastest EV time at Laguna Seca at 1:29.9. There’s no way that happens with how slow Cleeters car was going.

You can turn on track mode in the settings so it’ll keep going when u have the foot on the pedal, same situation as a gas car with traction control. You would’ve won knowing this
I think he would of known that but it was still interesting to see cars with half the power and traction still keeping up with it.
It is primarily steering angle that prevents the Tesla systems from applying full power. It wants you to be pointing perfectly straight before allowing full output. Check out Mountain Pass Performance videos on the subject and how they help to address the issues.
I know their two totally different vehicles but my 2020 ranger takes out all throttle control when you pass someone to close, and if a vehicle like mine does that I'm sure tesla wants to prevent accidents, so I'm sure its what your saying and proximity sensors causing issues, my only question is is there a way to tell the car to chill out with a track mode or something?
If he was in Track Mode it would have been much less aggressive with the power cuts! :)
I think he got some object-aware acceleration going on too, preventing him from flooring it behind another car, Track Mode reduces or disables this too.

Next time go into either track mode in the car, or turn off the active safety features to not have it slow down when they get close. The brakes getting hot is a thing tho.

Doesnt matter really. Zr1 can outturn a Tesla any day. The plaid barley beat a fwd hothatch at Nürburgring. Its really fast up to 120 but that is all. Keep pushing it and everything overheats.

Cleetus, it's beyond dangerous to run races there without a crossover gate in place at the track entrance. Look up Mike Harmon or Michael Waltrip's crashes at Bristol, their cars were shredded when they hit the exposed end of the concrete wall. I'd hate to see something like that happen at one of your events. Stay safe brother!
There’s a big difference between 230 mph NASCAR races and 80 mph spectator drags/ circle track.

Tesla really needs proper Track mode that disables all these proximity and other unnessesary sensors when in track.
Edit: I went and checked out if Tesla Model S Plaid has track mode and it indeed does, provides torque vectoring to rear wheels and improved cooling. Plaid mode alone is not enough to give this but Plaid Track mode is needed to be used.
