for me, the awakening, that slow walk to the edge only to see Eurene, our salvation, dead, the camera going black, and the "I don't know" of desolation at the end was peak of cinema.

My personal favourite has to go to living world season 4, the penultimate episode, the last chapter of that episode. Rallying the troops, boosting morale one last time and finishing preperations to take on Kralkatorrik. Defeating wave after waver after wave of branded, until we were finally able to bring the Elder Dragon down and hurting him really bad. Only for him to get up again, blowing us away and just leaving. That slow walk at the ende, the drowned out screams and cries and the looming question of what happened to Aurene, finding her dead how she has forseen it in her visions prior. And just that hoplessness in the end. "What we're gonna do next?" - "...I don't know...".
To be fair, now it really lost its impact given how Living World was structured back then. You just start the next chapter and all that build up is just wasted. But at the time, having to wait weeks, months even for the next episode really sold it for me. You're just there now with no plan, no ideas, no path to walk. The end of Tyria as we know it looming.

Yeah, the fight against Palawa Joko definitely is one of the highlights. Praise Joko!
I'm quite happy to see multiple IBS moments included too, for all its flaws, it had some amazing story moments. Darkrime Delves was okay (i only recently did all the side content in it, which made it way better) but one of my personal highlights of the Saga was the first Bjora marches patch. From arriving at the silent vigil keep full of dead soldiers, trough Almorras corpse, soldiers walking off into the cold to die, the boneskimmer to the Fraenir speaks... Everything was so atmospheric and spooky, plus the music was absolutely amazing

Death and resurrection of Aurene was really awesome. How they made you walk slowly to absorb all the damage kralkatorrik has done leading to impaled Aurene was real shock. And death of my favourite character Trahearne at the end of heart of thorns was powerfull moment as well, shame that the boss fight with Mordremoth was a bit disappointing.

My absolute favorite story moment in GW2 is from the core story, believe it or not. The Battle of Claw Island marks the (future) Commander's first real pitched scale battle against the Awakened threat and further serves to raise the stakes by showing how nobody is truly safe as your mentor makes the ultimate sacrifice to buy you and the rest of the Lionguard time to escape and warn the city of Lion's Arch.

zhaitan has the best atmosphere in the game, cool dragon design, undead, Orr is amazing and had the best music soundtrack in the game

While I agree with your choices, it must have been difficult to whittle it down to ten! My personal favorite moment is from the character's personal story when you witness the reuniting of Destiny's Edge in Lion's Arch. I had played the original Guild Wars with a group that formed over a few years and when GW2 was announced and the promotional fiction books came out (including Edge of Destiny, Ghosts of Ascalon, and Sea of Sorrows), one of my guild mates bought them and mailed them to me after she'd read them, and I mailed them on after I'd read them. They were very well written and left the reader with a yearning desire to see the broken guild Destiny's Edge reunited to heal the emotional scars the members, our character's friends in game, were left with. I'll never forget the gasp I let out when I was playing and I realized what was happening the first time I played through that story step. I actually got tears in my eyes and choked up, it was that much of an emotional impact. It made me wish that each copy of the game came with a copy of the book Edge of Destiny to give the player SO MUCH more back story to Logan and Queen Jenna, Ritlock, Caithe, and Zojja and Snaff. Many of the characters in original Lion's Arch came from the books as well, so that gave another tie in. One of them, I forget who, used to reference his time with the lead characters (the NPCs) from the books when you spoke to him in town. He got moved when LA was rebuilt and I don't recall if he still says the same thing any more. But it was a lore nerd's greatest moment to have the books tie in so well to the game to provoke such an intense emotional reaction in me that I did not expect while playing a game!

@@hilanddoug Thank you so much for sharing! It was definitely very difficult to narrow it down to my top 10. I always appreciate the moments in the game that take us back to Guild Wars and the novels. I find that it makes the world feel so much larger and cooler.

After my first gw2 account got hacked I had a very long pause from the game but I read the first 2 book 10 times over this time and I still cry in some scenes. After I got back into the game with the books in mind the world felt so much better even after playing GW1 for 3 years and finishing all story points before gw2.
Guild Wars is just my favotite fantasy story with its great worldbuidling. I just happy to see so much love for such and old game.

Absolutely loved the ending of the battle against Palawa Joko, totally unexpected. Had never played the original Guild Wars so was totally unaware of any past history.
Now after starting the original Guild Wars over half a year ago (for lore), that is the problem I find with Guild Wars 2 story telling, so many lore or story moments linked to vanilla GW are totally lost on GW2 players if they've never played it.
Even SotU, the story of which I thought was just OK. I wasn't really super excited for the upcoming half a living world mini expansion Janthir Wilds till an observant player pointed out the Eye of Janthir lurking on high in Eparch's room during the final battle .... Holy cow batman !!! Arenanet are playing the long game with the story telling ! A story which started in vanilla Guild Wars, continued in Living World 3 chapter 6, again in a Heart of Thorns raid and now we find this what seemed like a one off side story, Secrets of the Obscure, is still part of the same story line and will continue with Janthir Wilds ??? I'm stoked for the latter's release now !!!
However if you are just the average GW2 player you are missing out on chapters of the story, you would have missed the Guild Wars and the GW2 raid chapters, and the Eye of Janthir showing up during Eparch's battle your reaction, if you'd even known about it, would have been "Oh yeah, that thingy that turned up in Living World 3, thats odd."

I legit belly laughed when Aurene pounced at the end. That has to be one of the funniest moments in the game.

It's amazing how much development Joko had between GW and GW2. In GW he's just the boring, standard lich and has a weird voice to boot.
