Pretty much, yeah. You get some liquid gold that goes straight into your wallet from various activities. But the vast majority of gold is from the materials you get. Those materials hold value and you can use them for stuff, or you can sell them on the trading post to get their value in gold that you can then use for whatever (buying different materials, buying skins, etc). Think of the Ley-Line Anomaly for example. You get a couple of silver straight up from killing the boss. But you also get a Crystalized Ley-Energy which is a trash item that has a set value of 50 silver. And then you get a Mystic Coin which is currently worth ~2 gold. Then you get a few other materials. So if you kill that boss and do nothing, you gain ~2 silver. If you kill the boss and sell the trash, you gain 52 total silver. And if you kill the boss, sell the trash, and sell the Mystic Coin on the trading post... you gain a total of ~2 gold and 52 silver.
Adding an additional reply to highlight some more information/answers to common questions that may or may not be helpful to some people. 1. Another aspect of gold farming that some people struggle with, which is kind of a continuation of the idea of selling materials, is currency conversion. Where you are gaining experience, karma, and countless other currencies (like map specific ones) which can also be converted to gold just like materials. 2. The main resource I used for this video (which I highlighted in the video and description) is [fast]'s super helpful resource. Link: fast.farming-community.eu/ Where this shows you all of the different ways to get gold and you can dive deeper into each farm to see where your gold is coming from (and also has a good list for currency conversions like I mentioned in #1^). For example, if you go to the Open World Farming tab and click Meta... you can see all of the different metas in the game. Looking at convergences for example, which is 21.5 gold in 25 minutes, you can click on it to see the outline of the gold you are making. You can see "(Weekly) Convergences Achievement)" at the top which is worth 12 gold, clicking that shows the Kryptis Convergence Extraction which is worth ~9 gold each, and clicking that shows that the Essence of Despair (~7.6 gold) + Essence of Greed (~1.4 gold) is worth a decent amount of the money you get from convergences.
@@Athis Be careful with the information, it is all wrong. Your return to the game can be frustrating if you don't make the made-up gold win this guy says. thank you so much for this video! i used to play back at launch and up to the silverwastes/HOT time and recently returned to the game. i initially was just curious what state it was in and to say i was positively shocked/excited at how good it is was an understatement! ive been having an absolute blast rediscovering the game and just playing! this list is super helpful and im amazed at how many ways we have to make gold. especially excited for fishing (which i always love in games) so im excited to unlock it eventually! 🥰🧡
15:47 you can also increase your fishing power to 99 by consuming 4 Zephyrite Fish Jerky while your skiff is anchored. (25 power per jerky). This Drastically increases your chances of getting higher level fish which you can use to convert into ambergris or other materials for recipes or sell on the trading post You can buy the jerky from the trading post, or you can get the recipe to make them from the Festival of the Four Winds.
Only use fishing Jerky when your trying to capture legendary or ascended fish for a achieve, ent in areas that isn't popular fishing areas. Domain of Kourna is the number 1 fishing spot on my server with 24 7 fishing parties you can teleport to and get on someone's skiff and you get the 99 buff.

Although not officially, I think the "thats quality armor" quote is a reference to the Halo 2 "Home Field Advantage" cutscene. In the cutscene Cortana comments on Spartan 117s gear, saying "You look nice" to which both 117 and Johnson at the same time respond "Thanks".
When ppl talk about "gold per hour" in videos such as this, they don't mean literally you "get" the gold. The mats, the raw loot you get is the one you NEED to sell in order to get the gold. Don't deposit everything you get as a loot. Everything that is available for "sale", you put it on TP hence from where it comes the *gold per hour*
Lot of people don't realized unidentified gear equal gold. Many times I'll just run so,e metas for couple days and I have a couple stacks of 250 to sell. The exotic unidentified gear I use the master sa,vage kit so I can get tons of ectoplasm. Which I pretty much always keep for crafting ascended gear but you could sell some or craft certain material that sells well. Most of the 1 per day ascended ,arterial caj be crafted into another thing that sells for 2 gold or more
I'm a big supporter of fishing for gold. 1 place, domain of kourna. Bring scorpions and mackerel. 24 7 there is z fishing party on lfg so u can go straight there jump on someone's skiff for the 99 stack boost. Then begin fishing. Fishing speed goes fast, you have maxed fishing power and will catch insane amount of legendary and ascended fish. I usually don't do more then 45 to 1 hour but a lot of the fish will convert into chunks which sell for over 2.4 gold then you can convert the filets into chunks too. Sure it's somewhat boring but the fact you can go to 1 place and do 1 thing, and no enemy attack you in the fishing area in domain kourna. Also getting on living world trains is pretty good farm, or if you know how to time when events happen you can go from 1 event to another fast depending on time of the day. A lot events if you time right you can catch the last couple minutes to the boss fight so your time is valuable
fast farming indicates gold/hour from the data of an experienced group set up for maximum profit. The site also counts as profit items that cannot be sold. For example, RIBA strongly depends on the leader of the group and in most cases the real income will be 10-12 gold hours. Even new players have a low percentage of MF, the absence of the addition of EOD and the Jbot with its additional loot also reduces gold per hour. I would not advise not to focus on one thing, but to just play and have fun. In most cases, the gold/hour will be approximately the same regardless of the activity, but the game will not turn into work or another stupid grind.
Everything is at max. No vsync. No bloom, color grading, color tint, distortion, or light rays. Ambient occlusion, depth blur, and light adaptation are checked.
Riba gives me 0 gold. I never understand why ppl say u can Farm there. ITS very stressfull to get some Events, cause every time u left Event range u dont get rewards. And Mobs drop nothing. But earning gold by fishing ist the biggest lie. U have to wait for spawning fishing grounds, what need a Lot of time. U cant fish unlinited, cause u Always have to wait for Spawn. And then only Thing to earn gold are ambergis. I get 1 ambergis in 3 hours, cause 99% droppen blue and Green fish. Sometimes i didnt get any gold or Higher fish in 2 hours.
You say you can make 22 gold on the defense of amnytas!? I must be doing something wrong then because I swear you don't really get anything from that meta. Could you elaborate on how you're getting that much gold from it please? I know you're selling all the mats but 22 gold seems way to high
Pouch of Stardust (Crafting mat that is turned into weapons you sell) is worth 13 gold. You get about 2.5 gold worth of Pinch of Stardust (used for the same purpose). You have to make the weapons which takes a tiny bit of time to do so (have to harvest research notes and then buy or craft the weapon parts). You get around 8 pieces of Rare Unidentified Gear which is worth 2 gold on the trading post. Then you have a wide variety of other mats, trash items, and also things like karma and spirit shards which can all be converted to gold. The value of Amnytas is currently 20 gold, so it went down by 2 gold since I wrote the script. Edit: Looks like [fast] might be combining the Stardust value so the total profit from Amnytas right now is actually around 17.5 gold.
Im new to the game, 3 days old to be exact and thw amount of work and value you put into this is just wonderful Thank you! If i ever get the grifon, ill say its cuz of you
Defense of Amnytas 22 gold in 20 minutes? Where did you get this information from? I checked only a week ago and if you remove the cost of all the ingredients in the exotic weapons you craft you struggle to barely reach 10 gold per event.
Thanks! I think raids and strikes are my 11th or 12th spot. Looking at strikes, they seem to average out at about 8-12 gold per strike with some outliers. With each one taking 5-10 minutes. So pretty good income for a fun gametype. Where I generally find raids more fun but it's 10-14 gold for the entire wing which takes like 20-30 minutes to do for an average group, so they are a bit less profitable. And both have the issue with being 10 player content (requires more people and more organization) while also only being able to be done once a week where a lot of other stuff is daily or infinitely repeatable.
@@AthisGenerally, doing Ibs5+DS+EoD+SotO takes about the same time and provides about the same gold as T4 fractals + Recs. I tend to skip HT and OLC as a commander since those are harder and I do those with guildies just so I can keep my LFG squads as “all welcome” as possible.
After 12 years of playing I don't really need any gold, but its nice to know where to go farm if I DO need some quick cash without selling off my inventory of materials.
One of my guildies runs a train in Drizzlewood Coast. I had no idea you could make a lot of gold there and was just there to level up the masteries and was surprised at how much money I'd made while there. Fun event chains, too, and I dig the scenery and landscape of the map much more than other maps.
Regarding materials- some newbies on Facebook were trying to convince me its cheaper to do events and buy your mats with the money you make than it is to farm your mats while doing events. How anyone could accept this convoluted logic is beyond me, but my mats are all above 250 and I've never bought a single material that I could go farm myself and I have a few thousand gold and don't need anything. I always tell newbies to farm everything in the zone- you get experience to level up and you can use or sell the mats later if you don't use them for crafting yourself.
Edit: Just ran an octovine -- 3 minute kill, 4.5 minute bonus bosses + 27 chests. 7.5 minutes total (and it was a slow kill). You can add an extra 2 minutes of waiting I did at the start but I wasn't at my computer for that.
How do you make gold? Do you sell the mats you get ?
Pretty much, yeah. You get some liquid gold that goes straight into your wallet from various activities. But the vast majority of gold is from the materials you get.
