In this video we talk about updating Polar steps (not sponsored). If you want to follow our live route then you can follow us for free on www.polarsteps.com/TREADTheGlobe. It's a cool app that tracks our location - Thanks for watching and see you next week - Chris & Marianne xx
I take my hats off to you two. All of the required paperwork, plus keeping Trudy mechanically safe, and posting interesting informative videos of your progress is daunting to us mere viewers. I hope it all comes good over the next few weeks. Keith.
This unnecessary bureaucratic inefficiencies naturally occurs when the government gets too big. We need leaders who will reduce unnecessary regulations and fire lazy government employees.
Thanks Keith - we are ploughing through it, and we are keeping our sense of humour !! It has been a challenge but if it were easy there would be no stories to tell when we finally write the book !! Marianne 😉🌺🚐🙏
What a nightmare, must be so stressful and worrying 😢 I hear so many stories of problems travelling to, or even just transiting through, the US. Seems ridiculous you were able to enter, travel the length and leaving is an issue? Show them your TH-cam videos to show where Trudy has been 🤣 I hope all worked out fine in the end!
Well done guys in keeping calm … one of our biggest bug bears is answering machines and then knowing when all you want to do is scream down the phone .. that will actually make things worse :) Also good thing your knobs are better … :)
Use JB Weld and apoxy it together. Guaranteed it will hold the head on the stick shift. Rough up the surfaces and follow the directions on the J B Weld container.
What a nightmare! The fact that they need you to ship your ORIGINAL documents to your campervan, especially before you cross the boarder, seems a little suss, but then again, I don't know anything about their board control. I hope it all worked out for you and you were able to get out of there on time!
Oh dear, I hope that you resolve the bureaucratic problems with the van paperwork. On the bright side, you said that the tortillas smelt corny, so they must be like my jokes. Also, you’ve learnt from Ricardo how to fix the knob on the gearstick
In the USA, nobody answers telephones. Just like Social Security wanted me to mail them my drivers license in order to get a replacement card…. Good luck!
Chris said, you two have problems with countries letting you leave. That is because they enjoy your company so much that they are trying to hold on to you as long as they can. Back to the show, can't wait to see what happens. Stopped as you just got the van into the garage.
How they manage to keep going? Because they are a nice and sweet couple I would go out of my way to help. I never considered that being a nice person would be such an important skill on a long voyage.
So sorry for your frustration. Evidently, we in the US want to keep you 2 because you're so awesome. I've missed catching up on your videos for the last couple of months & can only read the descriptions for now. My husband was dx with a grade IV Glioblastoma & I've been dealing with his health care since 2/7. I'll be bingeing some TTG when life evens out.
God Bless your trip. I hope you do NOT run into any difficult issues that aren't easily solved. Sounds like you are flying home to England before going to meet Trudy in Japan. Enjoy your break. Happy Easter. Hugs to you both.
Thanks for this..I'll never drive my own vehicle around the world..I'll just hire a car and it probably works out the same without the headaches..I don't hink my heart would be able to take the stress
Well, I guess by now you've got it all sorted. Look on the brightside, at least you were sorting the Custom's nightmare in your own language (almost). I'm looking forwards to some SUSHI. 👀👍
Greetings from Ecuador. Wish you were coming South. Yes, trying to talk to US bureaucracy on Skype is frustrating! I believe birria is goat, not beef. Buen viaje!
Your friend the Mechanic Ricardo did a great job. Glad you had a fine Mexican breakfast given to you. Sorry about the U.S. Government phone mix-up and hassle. I think they may be very careful about exporting vehicles due to the numbers of stolen cars and trucks shipped overseas by organized gangs. Safe travels. Hope Trudy gets put onto the ship and safely to Japan.
Thanks Linda - I think that as time goes on processes do become more complicated - Not just here in the US - but generally, due to litigation the rules become tougher and checks more stringent 👍
As a former customs broker/freight forwarder, I believe all the concern about original documents is a result of cars being stolen and then exported. This regulation was instituted, as I recall, in the nineties, so it's been around for awhile.
If you follow the news much, you will know that cars get stolen all the time, and are shipped overseas where registrations are easy to come by. How it that done? Either the customs/shipping people are on the take or the alleged original documents are fake but they are so good that nobody can tell that they're fake
"It's not every day you wake up in a garage in Tijuana." 😂😂 Haven't done that yet, I'd better get on it! Ricardo has some real treasures in there; my eyes went straight to that big maroon Jag. 👀👀 Mimi and I got stressed out for you all over again watching the Sisyphean paperwork palaver play out on camera! 😓😓 Leave it to Marianne to earn another ally in Officer and finally get some usable info! The person named after a major European city and the agency they work for could learn a thing or two! 🙄😒 Lovely to see Mimi's and my new favorite shirts at the end of this video! 😁 Such a kind gift, they are! ❤️❤️😎👍xx
Can you tell me ? If the MOT has run out on a UK registered Vehicle . then it must not be legally registered , Therefore not insured , We kept a UK registered car in France but had to return to the UK every year for a new MOT.
It can be a registered vehicle with no MOT. It still exists and hasn't been scrapped. Whether the insurance is valid is another thing, as all UK insurance companies require a valid MOT, unless maybe they have a special arrangement. However if you are buying local insurance then I guess it doesn't matter.
Hi Ian - MOT is required to purchase insurance from the UK that covers countries on the green card - this is why we shipped Trudy from Istanbul to UK as we were not able to get insurance to drive through EU. We renewed her MOT whilst in the UK but we did not need it to buy insurance in the USA. This is also another reason we do regular check ups and maintenance to keep Trudy in tip top shape 🚐🙌💕🌷
Travel has been made difficult in the US. I see the difference. Instead of the usual state issued id cards we now have a 'smart card's. Without it you can't fly from your state of residency. It is like a passport.
Hello Ambassadors Chris as to why you have hard time leaving the country is because they ❤ you there and don't want you guys to leave. A quick comment on dealing with the feds is that I also deal with them in our level however, it seems like each one of these workers there have a different answer for the same question😮. Although, they are nice people but they are not on the same page with one another. Keep the spirit high my dear friends. Marianne, I have myself have called the state office myself 2.5 hrs later they picked the phone up but I could not explain my problem because I ran out of charge. It was very upsetting. I feel you guys. What a formalities you go through sometimes, therefore, I never give a run around to my clients. If I can solve the problem, I do right then in there. Anyway, I wish you good luck. Breakfast looked great! We ❤❤ you here guys! I hope all goes well and TRUDY gets well soon. 👍Ricardo!🇹🇷🇹🇷🇹🇷😅
