A family that works together succeeds.
Our awning toppers are about ready to be replaced. This is something we will attempt ourselves.
As always your Videos and our confidence will save us a lot of heartache and cash as well.
Thank you Darren and Mrs. Darren for your vlogs. You’re so appreciated.

You have one of the very best TH-cam sites in the country to help do it your self with RV repairs. I've watched all of your videos and always tell everyone I know how well you explain everything in great detail. I do all my own work and your videos have helped me immensely! Please keep up the great work!

First repair job I've seen on the Arctic Fox, so thank you. Just so happen I need to replace our Slide topper and just as you discovered I could not find the other hole on the backside of the tube, so thank you for pointing that out. Nice job.

I'm happy my slide topper was only about 7ft long so I was able to slide out the old one and put in the new one by myself in less time than it took me to watch half this video since I left the hardware all mounted in place 👍

I replaced a topper awning fabric last week for the first time on a mobile call. I've done a few in the shop where we have plenty of flat concrete floors, ladders, shade and extra hands. It's a different experience out in the field like that. The existing gimp rail had been pieced together making removal and installation of fabric very difficult. I used slide seal conditioner to lube the rail. Also had to drill out the rivets to remove the end cap so I could remove old fabric and install new in the tube. Anyhow thanks for sharing.

Make it easier yet by bringing in the slide-out, pin and remove the tube from the mounting bracket and place it on the RV roof. Now you can pull the fabric out of the gutter, sliding the tube along the roof until the fabric is out of the gutter. take tube with old fabric to the ground, remove the old fabric from the tube, replace with new fabric fully onto the tube, and reverse the removal steps. One person can do it this way.

Great explanation. Is it difficult to install a slideout awning on a trailer that doesn’t have one from the factory?

How do you tell by looking if one end of the tube is free spinning as apposed to being under spring tension???

Great video, thanks for the detailed video. I have a Rv with the slide toppers and the two long ones have water pooling when it rains. The shorter bedroom one doesn’t. I’m on a permanent site so not sliding the slide outs in but once at end of season. Is there a better solution than climbing on top with a broom to empty those pools? I’m a little older and don’t like going on top too often. Thanks again

I can state that I am not a big fan of slide toppers. They are a maintenance headache (Although for my business they are cash registers so that's the only reason I like them LOL) But there's all kinds of contractions people use to keep them from flapping in the wind, preventing them from collecting water, as in your situation, and they collect water underneath which causes mold and leaves get trapped which causes issues on the wiper seals when they extend or retract. My recommendation, and what I did on my RV, was I just removed them and have had no problems since. So that would be my suggestion for your situation.

Hello sir I love watching your videos you make everything look easy and thank you for sharing but I looked through your videos and I can't find what I need help with but my problem is I ordered a Solara topper and it's almost 2 feet to long and I can't return it so I'm wondering if I can cut off one of the ends to make it the length I need if you have a video or know of one could you please share it with me and I can't figure out if Solera has a spring on each end

Question... Why didn't you replace the fabric with the slide room in instead of extended?

    • @jerrystrader
      @jerrystrader ปีที่แล้ว

So he would have some place to set the topper once removed from the slide room.

Seems to me you did it the hard way, we have domitic toppers and found it very very easy to leave the hardware in place and unroll the fabric, put in the pin remove the set screw replave the fabric and while holding the roller tight pull the pin and again slowly release the tension. Total time to replace a 15' awning cover 15-20 minutes.. we also found that sometimes those bracket bolts do not want to play nice and come our.. Just an fyi

I’m a new rv tech, just wanted to know why you decided to remove the roll tube assembly off the slide out? P.s. Love the videos!

I don't agree.. wife and I replaced ours didn't need 3 people. After I pinned the roller, we lubed up both tracks with dawn soapy water and they both slide in at the same time. Factory awning material is the cheapest possible, get the heavyest stuff you can afford. helps when the wind is blowing.
