    Girl you need to raise your price on those planners!

    You can make as many shipping profiles as you want and use them on different items. I have one I call STATIONERY HEAVY, one called STICKERS, one called BULKY, and so on!
    Congrats on your big sale! I also did the EHARTS market, but for some reason my sales were down from normal weekends! But still happy!

      Thank you so much for the tip!!! I can't believe I hadnt worked this out sooner hahaha I just had it set up as standard, large letter and small parcel etc. I'm off to update to to items by weight!! That's a shame about your sales this weekend, but I'm glad you're still happy because it was so fun to get involved and see what everyone else was up to! Big love!

    Oh dear an expensive lesson. A few years ago I did exactly the same thing. I learned that stick to Epson printers use compatible cartridges and if it doesn't go fast enough buy an extra printer to run alongside it works out much more profitable. Love the vlogs keep up the good work and good luck x

    Hi! Fellow laser printer user here. The ink levels are just guidelines. My tip would be to try resetting your cartridges - essentially trick your printer into thinking you put in new toner cartridges. Whenever I get a notification that the levels are low, I just reset them again. I do this until I can judge for myself that the cartridge needs to be replaced. Every printer has it's own reset settings, so you'll need to find yours. I hope this helps! I have had my printer for almost 3 years and only replaced the cartridges once so far. :)

    • @fizzandflourish
      @fizzandflourish  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey! Thanks so much for the advice! As soon as the ink levels said low, the printer stopped printing well - it came out with banding and ruined the planners. I’m just worried that it’s because each page has lots of colours etc. I’ll try putting them back in to try and tricking it though...worth a shot!

    It's so nice and inspiring to see someone growing their creative business in the early stages, well done on all your sales that's amazing!! I think you are right, a manufacturer would take the stress away and be more cost effective. Alsooo a lot more time to be concentrating on new designs and things

    • @fizzandflourish
      @fizzandflourish  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes! This is it exactly - this is the main reason I want to use a manufacturer...take the stress away! Now I know that they were popular, I don’t feel so worried about stocking up on them. So glad I can share the journey from the very beginning and include all the down sides as well as the positives! Thanks for the lovely comment 💛💛💛

      Oh and shipping profiles will be your best friend. I have different ones for different weights, so you can easily charge per extra item for your heavier listings. Also, definitely consider signing up to royal mail click and drop. It's so much quicker and easier than having to queue at the post office. Plus you can pop them in a post box or parcel box whenever suits you, perfect if you're working late to clear all those orders.

    On another note....Congratulations on a successful online market! 🎉

    You can definitely set up different shipping profiles on Etsy. If you use calculated prices it will add postage cost by weight. You do not have to use that profile on the sticker sheets if you want to charge a fixed rate for those!

  • @EmmaCarpenterIllustration

    Aw Meg I can totally relate to thinking you’ve worked out all the costs and profit and then realising the profit isn’t that great. I’ve messed up like that before. You would think that making it yourself would be cheaper 🤷‍♀️ Anyway so happy for you that you’ve had so many sales. 🎉

    I'm so glad you showed this because it actually made me feel better. I went through a similar situation this week. It was wonderful that I got so many orders from the market, but I definitely wasn't ready for it. I couldn't even ship the products until later because i had to wait until the Etsy money came in because i wasn't going to be able to afford it. I also ran into so many issues this week. I am so glad though because I was able to see what I needed to work on and what I needed to change. I learned so much but it made me feel super crummy all week.

    • @fizzandflourish
      @fizzandflourish  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Wow I’m so glad I’m not the only one that was overwhelmed!! It’s an amazing problem to have, but it’s also still a problem because of course we want our products to go out ASAP! I felt awful having things go later than usual and just worried the whole time. I need to try and enjoy the process but I put the pressure on myself by not being prepared! But we will learn together and keep improving - yay for such a successful market! Big love!

    Usually the toner cartridge supplied when you buy the printer is a "mini" as in it's not full.
    The ones you buy will be full cartridges.
    It's worth checking as that was the case with my Dell laser jet, HP may be different though.

    • @fizzandflourish
      @fizzandflourish  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I hope this was the case!! The only problem I noticed was that after printing 3 planners on the new cartridge, the toner levels went down quite drastically. Although a few people have suggested that the levels aren’t always accurate! Oh well it will come in plenty useful for other projects!! Thanks for the comment 💛💛💛

    There’s no way that even printing the A4 planners on the Epson is cost/time effective - 3 hours for one planner is crazy time.

    Ah, that has been such an up and down week for you. I'm happy for all the sales you've made through the online market and I'm happy to know that you have made enough to invest in a laser printer. But the ink, or toner, for the printer is such a bummer... I never thought it could cost that much! I think getting it manufactured will help a lot for you and maybe cutting down on the pages would be a lot more efficient! 50 pages are a bit much, and I think business-wise, selling a planner for that long would not help with your sale too. Cutting down on the pages, and maybe after a while changing the design would be a lot nicer!
    Still, I hope you will make it work and things will turn out okie! It's a learning process and I truly appreciate your honesty with us! Thank you for letting us in on this journey💞🦔

    • @fizzandflourish
      @fizzandflourish  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah a few people have mentioned the amount of pages in the planner - to be honest I made the decision based on other planners on the market and they all seemed to have 50 so thought that was the way to go! But yeah, maybe it’s too much! Plus, would be nice to introduce new designs sooner 😍 thanks again for the lovely comment, so glad you enjoyed it! Xox

    Brilliant vlog as always, keep up the good work.
    A couple of things, sorry to hear about your printer problems and I hope you get it sorted in the best way for you.
    Also an observation, while you were using the cutter, the bits that you were cutting off ended up on the floor, maybe a swing bit without the top where the off cuts landed? may save your back in the end, bending to pick it all up. Also bins dotted around where you usually cut either with your guillotine and the circut, so that you are not cleaning up after the event. As I said just a couple of observations. Anything for an easier life. Hope you dont mind me saying.
    I received my 1st order from you this week and I must say I am impressed, the items are beautiful. Thank you.
    Sue x

    • @fizzandflourish
      @fizzandflourish  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Aw thank you for the tips! Yeah I realised I should have put a bin under the guillotine right after I bent down to pick it up 😂 because I had the market stall I moved it from its usual spot and the cricut had to move to the floor too! Usually it would be on the table (my back didn’t enjoy that!) I’m slowly running out of table space hahaha I think I’m generally quite a messy person and most people would think to pop bins around the room! 😆 I reckon if I did that I’d still fling paper over my shoulder 😂 but yes, I definitely need to start tidying as I go! Thank you for the lovely comment, I’m so glad you loved your goodies!! 💛💛💛

    Inktank printers are the lowest cost printers of all. Laser printers are great for some small items but they definitely cost more. If I were you, I'll make the inside pages in a graphic shop, they cost so low and they get them ready very fast

  • @MissyBri
    @MissyBri 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Have you considered playing around with the toner settings on the printer? You could change it to where you use less toner so the colors aren't as vibrant, but still vibrant enough where they're good quality to sell. Now I'm not a printer whiz or anything, but I know my printer has different print quality settings so I'm assuming yours does too.

  • @fijaystudio
    @fijaystudio 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    switch to A5 is one solution. Do your research when you go after off brand toner. Don't worry too much, we all make mistakes to begin with.. another solution is reduce colour use, black and white plus an accent colour. Also go and price getting the printing in A4 outsourced. And the idea of it costing less than outsourcing is always inaccurate. The first mistake we all make, is not factoring time, plus our time, into the equation.

    This looks so up and down for you and it must be so hard going on the emotional rollercoaster. I think it makes sense to take the monthly out of your shop. The only thing I would say is that 50 sheets is too many for a month planner. Even doing 24 for a two year or 30 incase of any mistakes would probably be preferable to me but that's just my opinion. 50 sheets on to do lists of weekly makes sense. Think I just wanted to give honest feedback from my own personal view.
    I think it's all a learning curve and hopefully things get better ❤️

      Thank you so much for the lovely comment - a few people have suggested cutting down the pages and I think you might be right. To be honest I made the decision based on other planners on the market. Most I've seen come with 50 pages. What i realised is that for some months of the year the spread needs to go over two pages so I wonder if thats why its so many pages as standard. Even cutting down do 40 might make a difference. But yeah, getting them manufactured would probably just take all the stress out of it! And I'm sure I'll make use for the printer in other ways! xox

      @@fizzandflourish a little late but wanted to add my personal feedback! I wish those planners comes with only 12-24 pages because I love to use them but I also get tired of the same desing...I usually buy one pack that I love every year but hate the feeling of "waste" so many pages. So I have like 4 packs still half full (because they came with 30+ pages) waiting in my closet. Next yeat I will not buy another one and I will just use the ones I already have. So I think 24 pages will be the best decision for the same price you already have yours! :)

      @@miriam5714 thanks for the feedback Miriam! Since outsourcing them, I’ve found out that the reason they’re all 50 pages is because that’s what most manufacturers offer as their standard amount of pages. So I’ve had to go with the 50 pages I’m afraid! I agree though, it feels like a waste and I think it’s a good idea to reuse your older ones. I don’t think 12 would be enough as there are some months where you need to use a second page to fit it all in. It’s always good to hear feedback though! 💛

    I just found you channel and watched this video...will be watching more 😊 for Etsy you can set up additional items costs like you mentioned. Now that you have some orders under your belt, you can use those totals for calculating for additional items. Then for sticker sheets as well as other items you can follow suit and add the extra shipping per item or not on each item. For a laser printer, have you googled reviews for the best graphic or laser printer? Just thoughts that came to me as I watched. Don’t give up! Learn to do by doing and take the lessons and apply it, which you’re doing 💜 Brava

    I really love your vlogs. 💕 I have an hp mono laser printer that I use for foiling and the toner indicator is very low on toner but to be honest based on my experience using it for a year now it’s not accurate unless the print shows bad quality or not printing at all then that’s the time it needs to be changed. I had a funny experience about that toner indicator when I thought mine is running out because the print is bad so I bought a new one which is really expensive but turned out it was a setting that I missed and I wasted a full toner cartridge because I replaced it too early it was the one that came with the printer. I haven’t changed the toner cartridge ever-since and it still prints good output 😅 though that probably is different on colored and photo printing. I just thought this might help ☺️

Maybe I’ll try changing the settings and see if I can’t get any more out of it! Thanks for the comment - it’s worth a shot!! I calibrate perfectly, for example, and either it still cuts incorrectly or it cuts fine for a few sheets of the same sticker sheet and then it cuts completely off. I know many users have jumped ship and gone for the Silhouette brand cutting machines. I'm strongly considering it myself. I called cricut and they suggested I should: give my cricut a 5-10 minute break in between cutting, make sure my mat wasn't damaged, or that it was a problem with the image I was using. In the end they asked I send them a video of the error so they can work out what the issue is. Hopefully it can be fixed. I'm really amazed that artists on your part of the world are still able to sale a lot of stickers, posters and stationeries. Here in South East Asia I feel that we cant really beat the price and varieties from China sellers who mass produced in factories really cute beautiful stickers and sell ultra cheap price. As a consumer myself, I'd be tempted too to get cheaper cute stickers rather than paying a lil bit more for something made locally which might or might not look super cute. In the end people just want their journal to look cute and pretty with lil cost as possible. It's not always about the art or the originality in my part of the world. I understand, but it is still disheartening.

    • @fizzandflourish
      @fizzandflourish  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I understand, but I personally LOVE buying from small business. Knowing that you’re supporting someone’s dream is worth the extra bit of money (and I know a lot of small business’ that price themselves too similar to these big companies so don’t earn what they should! Which is very sad). I want my planner to look cute, but knowing that I’m putting stickers made by artists that put so much love into them is a very good feeling - and makes that planner/journal even more special 💛

    • @lololo1670
      @lololo1670 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank god that we do value independent artists in this part of the world and would rather pay that bit more for something unique and special than mass produced products made by factories that likely steal the designs from said artists and no thought or care about it. Factories are also known to have poor practices and a negative impact on the environment. Perhaps you should rethink what you are really supporting rather than thinking of saving a bit of money.
