Hey everyone! So - a little weird, but AMD did not include the new Radeon RX 9070 and RX 9070 XT GPUs (or the Z2 series of SoCs for handhelds) in their CES keynote. So you get to learn about them here! Since the keynote, ASUS and Gigabyte have shown their RX 9070 XT cards and confirmed that they will have 16GB of VRAM. The only other new info from the live stream was the 9950X3D and 9900X3D launch time frame, which is MARCH 2025 (so late Q1). Stay tuned for more CES 2025 coverage coming soon!
Thanks for filling in the blanks Paul! was a little confused why it was dark outside your window at lunchtime in Vegas :P (I take it they've not let on what the new 9070 gpu's are going to cost?)
The most confusing thing about the Radeon naming change is that they are 1 generation away from 10 in the name so unless they plan on going 5 digits they are going to have to change it yet again in a year or two.
That’s what I was thinking today but I remembered that they “should” be going into udna next gen after this new one but then again that would be another question of where would they even go naming wise?
@@paulshardware Thanks for sharing that with the community Paul! Because I was so scared it was delayed until March or even Conputex. I can only hope pricing is decent! Holding for $450-$500! Lots of Love Paul!
It's dumb when hardware companies jump generation numbers and also when they change their entire naming strategy; it confuses consumers and it costs them money. It's also anti-consumer.
No mention of any GPUs beyond a vague reference to RDNA4. I suspect that's because AMD had elected not to tip its hand before Nvidia's 5XXX announcement and its inevitably stupid pricing.
@@HoretzYT My one big hope is that (like 9x00 cpus) the power consumption of the new cards is a lot lower than that of the old 7900 cards, while delivering similar performance. My Seasonic PSU has been crapping out (total PC shutdown) when my 7900XT Nitro sucks maximum juice.

i was wondering for a good minute why your background was dark when it was announced this morning. then i realized you recorded last night and was briefed.
I appreciate amd keeping budget gamers in mind but I wish they would also continue their higher end line for the people that want high level of performance without giving nvidia any money.
I feel that they have too much product segmentation. The rzyen 200 series, 300 series max stuff and their desktop cpus and there should also be their ryzen pro lineup of their 9000 series for OEMS.
@@laurisdemonsthey just did it in the prebriefing, not during the actual presentation. Dumb move but yeah that’s where all these slides/info coming from
From a business and marketing perspective - they launch their flashy new features with the latest/newest hardware (i.e. the 9000 series) - because they’d want benchmarks, reviews and people purchasing them first. Like Apple - with a new phone, you see a new iOS update, then they role it out on older devices. Now, let’s say AMD did launch their new cards, and at the same time rolling out FSR4 for 7000 series - you’d get benchmarks, reviews etc. from people showcasing FSR4 on products like 7800XT, 7900XT, or XTX - in-turn would ‘out-shine’ their 9000 series, and lead to increased sales of their previous Gen. cards. So, we could (speculation) see AMD by June-July (H2) roll out FSR4 for previous Gen. Doing what they’ve done now equates to more sales for their newest cards with all the bells and whistles. While Nvidia - classically stops production of all their 4000 line, AMD only stopped 7900GRE. So the roll out FSR4 could happen later in the year to 7000 series. IF AMD honour that line. And a big IF. But checkout Hardware Unboxed - they have a video explaining the possible roll out of FSR4 later, as AMD was in-touch with them.
Thanks for the info without all the AI mentioning which has caused me to suffer from alcohol poisoning after drinking each time that is mentioned across the 2 presentations.
I would be embarrased and hesitant to announce new GPUs too. Bold Prediction - Most likely RX 9070 XT is going to be 7900 XT for 599 with lower power draw, shit price to Performance. 2nd gen in a row when they completely will drop the ball.
Can anyone help me figure this out, so the 9950X3D is the fastest thing they have, but does this have the AI capabilities of the AI MAX chips?? And are those chips only for laptops? If I'm building a new pc with an RTX 5090, and choosing a CPU for an AI workstation, what's the best performing CPU for the job??? My last / current build is an Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-7820X CPU @ 3.60GHz with 64gb of ram and an RTX 2070 super
Hopefully, in five years or so, "someone" will glue one of those Z2 processors onto an mATX or ITX motherboard, and sell them on AliExpress. Unofficially of course. That would be fun.
I’m hearing the AMD software stack for AI work is causing the MI300 systems to significantly underperform compared to theoretical performance. Should we expect them to put resources towards that software over Radeon and FSR?
They said they weren't competing with Nvidia at top end and their next gen top card won't beat 7900 XTX. They probably had a faster GPU, but decided not to release it because it would either A) cannibalize AI/Data center offerings or B) wouldn't compete with Nvidia at a price they could sell it at or C) both.
if the 5070 is $550 the 9070Xt cannot be higher than $450 to make a splash and $399 would gain market share...But knowing AMD they'll go for a $50 discount get bad first day reviews and be forced to drop prices a month later...Like usual...
Break out a wheelbarrow of scalpers ready to pounce the moment they go on sale. My gosh it couldn't happen to a better company because we all love nRipia. Thanks Paul
first time pc builder here: should i buy the AMD Radeon RX 7900XT for $690 now or wait for AMD to release the new gpus? which one provides better future proof and best value to performance? i’ll highly appreciate the help thank you!
What resolution do you plan to play at ? If you're aiming for 4k, it looks like you'll be better off with a high end RTX 5xxx from Nvidia. If you are aiming for 1440p or even 1080p, you might just get a better deal with a radeon card. Now is not a good time to buy though, it would be better to wait until both companies release their new gen gpus and we have independant reviews.
I would hazard that most people wont have to 'wait' on the 99xxX3D CPUs once the performance to pricing has been established. These are products for a chosen few customers willing to pay for those. That will include very few educated gaming enthusiasts if Steve (GN) guessed right.
Yup, the rumours of 8800 XT, now known as 9070 XT, is definitely not going to be on par with RTX 4080 ... sad. Considering the price now, 5070Ti 16GB seems like an acceptable upgrade path from my current 3080Ti 12GB. Let's see once they are out what the real world performance is like, especially compared to 4080/Super.
He said more info to come in Q1 in regards to GPU, I take from that, that the GPU's won't launch before Q2. I'm still waiting for my redundancy, so for it is fine to wait...;-)
Does it have new gpus? Since Amd was seemingly so embarrassed about the new generation they talked half an hour about Microsoft and Dell rather than their own gpus for a single second. I had low expectations from leaks, these expectations became reality after this joke of a CES announcement.
So.. These cards are just a lateral move from the 7900xt? They're doing their best to push me at Nvidia. I was hoping the 9070xt would be a good upgrade over my current 3080. I guess not. 😒
AI and ML are in fact related but are different, AI encompasses a broader spectrum of things including ML. 6:23 but im assuming thats no the reason for the wording probs just want to different than Nvdia lol
Hoping they'll come out with a 9080 XT or similar eventually and I may move to that, obviously depending on spec. I'm kind of over Nvidia. A 9080 XT priced around a grand I'd be into.
In short, it's checkmate. From the jacket. It's probably a good thing that AMD didn't show anything. Because they will not be able to oppose anything to the same new RTX 5070 for$550. Even taking into account the low and very pleasant price for FPS. It's a pity. I have only one question for them: and what did they even expect with the farce that they staged? If the 7000 series was still somehow able to compete with the 40 series, now you can completely forget about it even in the middle segment.
AMD adopting nVidia's numbering system turns out (I had my doubts) to be a great system that can directly address our biggest concerns; price and performance. By stating a direct competing line, there will be extensive testing of performance in the tech community especially among content creators. They will make the data and their conclusions available and we can judge price to compare value. It is a net-positive for consumers.
