I love when my spouse makes quinoa! He fries up fresh garlic in olive oil, then puts in the quinoa and toasts it for a couple minutes, then puts in veggie broth for the liquid. (I think he also puts in salt, pepper, curry, and cumin)

Abbey, I've been following you for a long while now, and I absolutely LOVE the series where you use meals as a template. As a neurodivergent person, I eat my meals very boring and plain. I struggle to compose meals, and I don't necessarily like trying out new recipes. Thanks to you, I now know how to easily touch up my fav tuna salad with some healthy fats. And I'm learning so much more, still using my template meals and your tips. Thank you so much, each and every of your video is VERY much needed and helps to improve quality of one's life! ♥️
Love the new format for your videos you came up with recently, it’s so interesting watching you cook in your real kitchen as opposed to the strictly informational/reaction videos in your studio kitchen; I like them both but it’s nice seeing you actually demonstrate how to apply your food tips! While you cook, even if you used an animal based protein option, can you mention the plant based alternatives? Such as, a vegan alternative to using eggs for your protein oatmeal?

My favorite way to use quinoa is to add like 1/2 cup of it to 1-1 1/2 cups rice. It adds a really nice texture.

Super interesting to me that there is a 5 minute prep time rule. I feel like these fad diets usually emphasize unprocessed foods, but that teeny prep window probably lends itself to choosing prepackaged food more often.
Yea. Either pre-prepped foods or maybe also like a lot of raw whole foods? Like how the f do you cook any type of meat in 5 min? Or pasta, rice….. or anything really.

I wanted to ask if you would consider doing a video specifically about tips to increase your protein in your diet, especially for those who don’t consume much meat/dairy. Maybe in the same format as your videos on how to gain/lose weight.

I LOVE quinoa! I cook it with broth and onion, garlic and some veggies (usually carrot, broccoli and zuccini). I just find it costs too much more than rice for me to have it very often, but it is a good treat!

Abbey, you are a very creative individual and a lot of that comes out through food. I find myself in a similar vein.
Meanwhile, I have a coworker who eats the same basic sandwich for months on end for lunch and has absolutely to yearning for anything different 😂
Point being, maybe Megan is happy with her boring diet.
My husband eats the most boring diet but he’s picky and just eats what he eats and it’s boring but he’s not a foodie ! He Doesn’t care about weight or Anythjng he’s just boring and eats the exact same foods every day pretty much .

@@LawdyGawd I can see how some would interpret her reactions as contemptuous, but I can also see it as her giving someone permission to not follow a celebrity’s diet plan EXACTLY, and just using it as a guide to fit her own tastes. Some people have such rigid food rules and it’s not because they just like boring food, it’s because they aren’t giving themselves permission to eat what actually tastes good to them
Megan said it herself “I don’t eat anything fun” meaning she knows her diet is boring
You do you, but I LOVE quinoa. The taste is nutty, it is easy and quick to make, and I like the texture. I always use veggie broth instead of water to make it and I like to stir in some sautéed onion, zucchini, and yellow squash while it is still warm. Yum!

I've recently been using quinoa like most people use oatmeal - with fruit, nuts, seeds, and plant milk. Great base and seems to keep me feeling much more satiated than oats.

So much of quinoa hate is from folks who aren't Andean and have never learned how to prepare it correctly.

Abbey, if you don't like quinoa, I'll propose you make a lentil and red quinoa salad with smoked salmon, feta, a tiny bit of sliced orange and/or some raisins for sweetness and chia or other seeds and to top this all with a nice dressing and I think that I can change your mind on quinoa.

This might be an odd suggestion but when I make your protein oats I like to add the egg yolk to the porridge before the whites. You still get the fluffiness of the whipped egg whites but I then don’t have to think of a way to use up the yolk later!
And you also get the benefit of the yolk!

I actually make a kinda similar smoothie to Megans. It's berries, spinach, mandarin or lime, cinnamon, basil, tumeric, ginger, matcha powder, pea protein, and then for the liquid I use black tea or Blueberry Bai (bottled drink thats really delicious) or oat milk. I love spicy sweet aromatic combos for a smoothie

I like quinoa especially mixed with other grains and even more if it is the red, black or mixed variety. My favorite way to eat it is in a 12 grain warm cereal I make in the crock pot the night before for breakfast.

You have helped me so much with my relationship with food, I have become more comfortable and able to gain the 10 lbs. that I needed to gain. Forever grateful.
Chai tea is a south asian beverage. We have it like 5-6 times a day.
That smoothie! lol It sounded horrible.I always add a banana, at least half of one. Another ingredient I love in smoothies is frozen zucchini. I'm meh on zucchini on it's own and get a ton during the summer, so I cut them up and freeze them and add them to smoothies. It doesn't detract from the taste but adds fiber and a fluffiness that I love. Also quinoa: I generally don't love bowls of it An interesting note when I went to Peru, anything I tried with quinoa had it sprinkled over the top -- in a soup for example -- like you would a seed, like, um, what it is. That doesn't mean that Peruvians don't eat big bowls of it but I never saw it used in place of rice like we do here now.
Two 2 hour work outs a week seems reasonable if that’s all your physically activity that week, full body training, cardio, stretching, plus a warm up and cool down is easily 2 hours. Not saying it’s not a lot for one day but 4 hours of activity in a week seems good 👍 if that’s all you can fit in your week, go for it!
I totally agree. Maybe I'm just slow, but I'd definitely need 2 hours if I did a proper intro stretch session, warm up, cool down, and final stretch session on top of both cardio and full body weight training.
For sure like I do 3 4 hour work outs a week it’s whatever works for you😊

I agree! I do 4 hours at the gum a week and also bike or walk around 20 miles a week just because I don't drive. I actually love being active because it makes me feel great mentally and physically.

Abby, do you control how many ads you put on your videos? You’re one of my only subscribers that I get bombarded by ads every 3 minutes of the video. I know you gotta make your coin and I respect that- but if you have any control over it if you can try to space them better I’d appreciate it. It’s really jarring and takes away from the quality of your videos

Any chance you might consider a video on eating well while neurodivergent? I have adhd, and it really complicates things. The all or nothing mentality... opening a snack or dessert and finishing it off every time. Getting fixated on a certain meal and eating it over and over again until you hate it. Having trouble getting started on tasks... cooking, grocery shopping, etc. Ways to minimize required clean up when cooking. Constant food waste resulting from the outta sight, outta mind issue. Just a few ways it affects me... I suspect a lot of us would be grateful for some insights and tips.

Hello, binge watching Abbey’s videos and just saw your comment. My fiancee is neurodivergent, and I have had to adapt things to make things easier for her and me.
For the all-or-nothing mentality, we buy smaller portioned desserts/snacks or use smaller bowls/plates when serving. We immediately put away the big bag of chips or pint of ice cream instead of leaving them out. This prevents over-serving and prevents going for more.
The meal fixations are so real, what we do is try to incorporate an extra ingredient to keep it from being the same. Her fixation at the moment has been small homemade pizzas, using either naan or pita bread as the crust. So we’ll add an extra veggie to the toppings list so either bell peppers, mushrooms, spinach, or onions. We'll also add something on the side like a small side salad or soup. Another option is to create meal plans that incorporate the same food items but are slightly rearranged.
For minimizing cleanup lookup sheet pan dinners or one-pot meals. If you have one instant pot recipes are also an option.
For the outta sight, outta mind issue try to put things that go to bad quickly closer to the front of the fridge. Also getting a small whiteboard and putting it on the fridge to jot down those foods that will go bad helps. Our whiteboard constantly has a list of fruits, veggies, and leftovers that need to be eaten in a week.

That oatmeal is such a good idea!!! It looked so good that im going to make it for me and my mom for dinner lol. What a great way to take 3 bland things and combine them to make it into a delicious meal or as you say hunger crushing combo lol. Love your videos Abbey and that you always promote healthy sustainable weight loss over fad diets, everything in moderation, and always call out the bullshit. In the summer I love a good quinoa, sweet potato, and black bean cold salad. Make up a huge batch and eat that for a few days. Jut plain is pretty well, bland.

My favourite use for quinoa is adding body to soup! even in a can of tomato soup the quinoa adds body! sometimes i then top it with roasted curry chickpeas

I like quinoa as a way of mixing up grains so I don’t only have rice all the time. But not on its own I’ll need to do other stuff with it and the food I’m making has to make some kind of texture sense as to why I’m using quinoa.
I definitely did the orthorexic quinoa, chicken, broccoli thing in my early twenties and to avoid that limiting mindset I try to include all the stuff I ate then in more interesting ways. But the meal that always brings me back to that is a baked sweet potato with a salad and tuna mayo in the potato. Because in high school that’s all I ate for lunch everyday… and the problem is I genuinely enjoy the combo of textures and flavours. So I will still eat it but make it a point to break it up with other stuff so I’m having it because I like it and not to get in that regimented routine again
