PLEASE try "My Mother Told Me," A viking song that Voice Play did. Geoff (Their bass) actually has a 5 octave range. He sings lower notes in that one.
Geoff Castalucci has his own TH-cam channel. Some of his better songs are 16 Tons, and The Headless Horseman.
He also has a tutorial on how to sing that low!!

A little more context to make this song make sense:"The Nightmare Before Christmas" is a classic / cult classic musical animated movie from 1993. The main plot is that the ruler of Halloween Town (Jack Skellington) is bored with his job, and wants to do Christmas instead, so he tells his subjects to kidnap Santa, so he can deliver presents on Christmas Eve, instead. This is one of the movie's songs, rearranged..

So now you've reacted to the 3 biggest a capella groups. Home Free, Pentatonix, and Voice Play. All are very good for very different reasons. Voice Play is the most theatrical. They have several Disney medleys, but cover other things as well. They are prone to doing character voices. PTX is more pop oriented. And Home Free leans toward country but covers everything. In any case, between the 3 groups, you've got content for ages! And all have loyal fan bases that will come running once that find you're doing reactions to their favorite group. A large portion of the fans are crossover fans that enjoy all 3 groups! Have fun in your journey through a capella! ❤

You're missing two really great a capalla artists. The first is Peter Hollens who does solo work as well as collaborations with other artists. Check out his collaboration with Tim Foust (the bass from Home Free) of "Misty Mountains" from the movie "The Hobbit". The other is another group called Voctave. They are quite different from Home Free, Voice Play, and PTX. They do more "classics" (such as "Over the Rainbow") and many Disney songs and songs from Disney movies. I highly recommend their "Great Movie Medley" (a tribute to the great John WIlliams) and the "Disney Princess Medley". I also highly recommend their Christmas song "Oh, Come All Ye Faithful". There are 11 members of Voctave and they have chords and harmonies that are beyond imagining.

VoicePlay are my favourite acapella group, they concentrate on the dramatic in many of their videos. Lots of fun as well as their wonderful harmonies. this one is a showcase for Geoff's range, and yes he can sing in five octaves. He makes videos on his own called low bass covers but Voiceplay do a wide range of genres and style. Always different, always so talented.

  • @huldradraco

Voiceplay has a background from disney and theater, so in a lot of their videos they do like dressing up or putting on a show. but they also do a lot of straight forward videos, so it's not all like this :) just like Home Free they have a very fun sense of humor, which often comes through in many of their videos. if you would like a good video to get a sense of the various members' solo vocals, Queen in 5 Minutes, If I Was a Rich Man/Girl, Moana Medley, Little Mermaid Medley, are great ones to start out with. Voiceplay is currently a member short, so they often have one or two guest singers in their performances.

  • @Aurora-cv5to
    @Aurora-cv5to 3 ปีที่แล้ว +19

Great response, thanks! The "Play" just means that's what they do. They play. Sometimes that means that they put on a play, other times, they support the song dramatically without a lot of costumes/makeup. But they are ALWAYS fun and always lift my mood. Each of the members is incredibly talented, with wide ranges and skills that go beyond voice. Almost all of the arrangements are done by Geoff (the bass who sang lead in this one) or Layne (beatbox, baritone. But any of them might get involved in arranging, and most often the solo time is divided pretty evenly between them. Usually the person who arranges has the vision for the video, so they do that too. This one was arranged by Layne. Check out Queen in 5 minutes or Warriors for performances with a really different feel.

VoicePlay does this theatrics often, it's one of the things that differentiates from the other a cappella groups. This song is from the movie "The Nightmare before Christmas", in which the Oogie Boogie kidnaps Santa. It honestly makes more sense if you've watched the movie.
If you wanna see more covers of them in costumes I'd recommend The Little Mermaid Medley, Queen in 5 minutes and My Mother Told Me. Tho, they have others which are equally as awsome like Bang!, Butter or If I were a rich man/girl.

For lowest note Geoff has done yet - B0 (two keys from being off the piano) see Halo (the video game) and The Dragonborn Comes Skyrim (another video game) where VP learns another language to do the latter part. My first exposure was Oct 15 or so when I saw a link to the Monster Mash by Geoff Castellucci, never heard of him but the Monster Mash is my favorite Halloween song so I dropped in, found the lowest note I had ever heard and VoicePlay too. Great reaction 😊. New sub. VoicePlay are amazing. You gotta check out more. I suggest "If I was a rich man /girl" or "Carry on Wayward Son". Geoff, the bass lead singer here, has his own TH-cam channel. He's got a 5 octave range... Check out "Blackbird" or "sixteen tons" of his covers. You won't be disappointed. Oh and I'm from Northern Ireland as well 😊.

You're going to enjoy Voiceplay. The deep voice is Geoff Castalucci, think I spelled it right, he has some solo videos too. Like 16 Tons and Headless Horseman.

Oh my God Adam, I didn't know you had a second channel, I found it by accident (and I subscribed), can you believe how low he can get?! If you haven't already, I'd like to suggest Geoff's Misty Mountain song, it's from the Hobbit movie and the way Geoff sings it, oh my God Adam, oh my GOD!!

Listen to Geoff Castellucci as he does '16 Tons', 'Bare Necessities', 'The Headless Horseman' and Voiceplay as they do a tremendous version of KANSAS' song, 'Carry On Wayward Son'!!! You won't be disappointed!!!

I like how utterly baffled you were by the goofy awesomeness that is VoicePlay. 😄 You should check out Geoff's Misty Mountains Cold and Sixteen Tons, and VoicePlay's Halloween and My Mother Told Me. Or any of their stuff really. It's all great.

I love that song but in my opinion it's not the best first song to hear of voiceplay. I would recommend "Carry On Wayward Son" or "Queen In 5 Minutes" gives you a good mix of everyone's talents.

The context I think you are wanting will come if you watch _The Nightmare Before Christmas,_ Tim Burton's 1993 stop-motion-animated musical film, involving a plot where the holidays originate from holiday-themed make-believe towns, and the denizens of Halloween town seek to make their holiday a bigger deal by kidnapping Santa Clause, replacing him with their mayor Jack Skellington. (Tim Burton may have been heavily medicated when he came up with this -- but then again, aren't all his films like that?) In this scene, an animated green burlap sack representing The Boogie Man is tormenting the kidnapped Santa. VoicePlay's live-action homage is creditable, but the main thing most people really home in on is Geoff Castelluci's unearthly range!

If you think that was a low note, you are in for a shock. The bass singer (Geoff Castellucci) can actually go down to a C#0. The note you heard at the end was only a E1. Whats more amazing is that he can go up to a A5 and he is actively trying to extend his vocal range

Now that you have seen the acappella groups, I would recommend Peter Hollens, maybe one of his medleys (Halloween or Disney Villains)
