  • SMALL Micro Four Thirds Lenses that weigh nothing, many of which still create nice blurry backgrounds and image quality as good as the big heavy lenses!
12-32mm kit Lumix $180 tiny cheap backup lens to always have along
15mm f1.7 Lumix Leica $550 great vlogging lens
17mm f1.8 Olympus $400 I really like this one! Some blurry background
20mm f1.7 Lumix $270 small pancake lens, nice blurry background
25mm f1.8 Olympus M Zuiko $300 wonderfully small and just as good as the 1.4
25mm f1.4 Lumix $670 nice blurry backgrounds but I like the smaller 1.8 more
14-42mm zoom 3.5 -5.6 Lumix $130 great SUPER lightweight zoom for travelling
45mm f1.8 Olympus M Zuiko $400 MY FAVORITE ALL TIME M43 LENS !!! Awesome backgrounds
75mm f1.8 Olympus M Zuiko $900 Great small telephoto lens, blurry backgrounds, kind of heavy
    Big heavy Expensive but good
17mm f1.2 Olympus $1,200 Creamy backgrounds, but the small 17mm 1.8 is almost as good
42.5mm f1.2 Lumix $1,400 Great lens, but I never use it, I always use the 45mm 1.8 instead

I'm just so glad to see someone who got the money but not turning into a snob, furthermore sharing some of it with others, just being natural, giving tips and advice to the other of us who can't afford to buy everything to see if it was worth it or not.
      It just makes me happy.
I have seen so many other "nouveau riche" types turning into snobs who say "it has to be that ultra-mega expensive thing", whether it be Purdey shotguns for $110,000 or Raymond Weil wristwatches, or as in this case photography equipment.
Keep the videos coming; I'll be watching...

yeap, it's a great lens. There is trio of 15mm, 25mm and 42,5mm Leicas sharing very similar signature. BTW I own DJI Lens, which is a rebrended 15mm 1,7.

Hard to beat m4/3 in terms of size, and quality. Part of my switch to m4/3 was inspired by your videos talking about size and weight savings. Now the rebuilding continues! Thanks again for taking the time to prove that size doesn't/does matter!

Loved your positive attitude and presentation! My favorite travel combo is the Oly 9-18mm, Pana 12-32mm and the nimble 17/1.8 for low light. With an Olympus camera and their FL-LM3 flash, there's little one will miss for casual photography. There still remains the perfect light for video, which remains to be invented.

Awesome video, Marcus! Thank you for sharing your insights. You've helped me better capture family moments we can never get back. Based on this video and a couple of your others, I picked up a GM1 and three of the lenses you recommended here to better pursue my photography hobby. I'm a novice and originally bought a Nikon D5600, but frankly found myself leaving it home for special events and vacation trips because of the systems' size. Also, I picked up a Canon Vixia camcorder (based on your camcorder video) in time to catch my three girls open their Christmas presents. Right tool for the job! Thanks again for all you do for the photography community!

I hope the 42.5 you gave away is giving someone a lot of joy. It is one of those I wish I had it type lenses and had I seen this video back in May I would have applied for it. Sometimes small is best, but when a lens has special character I don’t mind extra weight at all. This has to be the best overview of small MFT lens options on the internet. I always appreciate your focus on practicality Markus. Not enough reviewers spend enough time in the real world as you do.

I bought the Olympus M. Zuiko 45mm 1.8 and it quickly became my go-to lens. Light and small... yes. However, mine is pleasantly sharp and the bokeh is strong enough to create a nice separation. Your videos stand out because you use your years of experience where I'm sure you've seen countless trends and fads come and go to give us straight, simple and practical advice.
You give credit where its due to some pieces of expensive kit yet you're happy to bust myths with regards to using much cheaper equipment while still achieving great results.

That 75 is so gorgeous. All that glass!! I have the 45. It's miniscule. If I want a lens that length (75mm+) I get an adapter and put on my old OM system 85mm f/2 which is only about the same size as an old SLR standard lens!

As a relatively-new Panasonic shooter, this is really cool. So far, I've gotten lots of use from the surpisingly weather resistant 12-60 Panasonic kit lens.

I'm a longtime m43 shooter with a full set of lenses, including the 2.8 zooms. I'll tell you that the 12-60 kit lens is a tremendous value and very, very useful.

    As always great video.
    I own a gh4 with 2 lens one is a wide lens 14 mm and a portrait nocticron 42.5mm.
Yes the the 42.5 is big but I don't mind lugging it around

Nice for you to showcase micro four thirds in this day and age. Almost everybody are going to full frame cameras. I previously own a micro four thirds (now a Fuji user), and I miss its portability. I also miss that 45mm f1.8. The lens is very little, but outputs sharp images.

I loved this. Like you, I'm not afraid of vlogging with a tripod. I'm using my G9, and it's just too damn big for an old guy like me to hold out in front of me. I use my Oben mini-tripod on my desk if I'm vlogging from my office, or I have a nice full-size monopod that I can carry around instead of a tripod.
I mostly use a 25mm Pana 1.7 or my 42.5mm 1.7. I'm getting ready to pull the trigger on that Oly 17mm, though. I think it's a perfect lens for vlogging, Thanks for the great content.

Yes I use the 17mm for vlogging. Really great. You should difinetly buy. Actually, watch an example of it on of my videos. I show some unedited footage using it.

I've been looking for something similar to my Canon G12 point-and-shoot camera, which has taken tens of thousands of pictures but is showing its age. However, most point-and-shoots don't have a screen that swivels or tilts, which is a must for me. After seeing this video, I will be taking a hard look at the GX850.
