This is exactly how I assemble my kits. A do it all plus a fast prime, (two lenses), or a medium zoom, a long zoom, plus a fast prime (3 lenses). My travel kit is a LUMIX Gm5 with 20, 12-32, and 35-100 lenses plus charger and extra batteries and cards, all of which fits in a very small bag. I can assemble a long (wildlife) kit or a flash kit as needed. So of course I agree with your approach. Thanks for the video.

My favourite travel kit is the Lumix G Vario 14-140mm f/3.5-5.6 and the LUMIX G Vario 7-14mm f/4.0 giving an amazing 35mm equivalent range of 14mm-280mm

I find the 20mm 1.7 to be the best all around travel lens. Pancake, sharp and a low light/bokeh monster - all at an affordable price. Wide enough for group shots and narrow enough for an impromptu portrait.
It's a great focal length and a bit underrated, I think.

i think pro series from olympus are excellent
Easiest ultimate travel kit is 14-140mm + 100-300mm version 2 lenses. With these, you almost got the whole focal range at your fingertips... With exTele function, you can go up to 840mm eqv...
Once again in line with you. My kit : 25 F1.4 (80% of my pictures). 12-40 F2.8 Olympus. 75 F1.8 Olympus. All in all : 700g. Covers all my needs. I could opt for just a 50mm equivalent. That's the most versatile lens for me and I really feel confortable with this lens. You're absolutely right : more constraints = more creativity = better pictures.

I’ve multiple kits depending on the type of trip
- GX80 with 20 mm F1.7 and 42.5 mm F1.7 (street kit)
- GX80 with 20 mm F1.7 and 14-140 mm (lazy weekend away)
- G9 with 8-18 mm, 20 mm and 35-100 f2.8 (favorite IQ wise and holiday kit)
- G9 with 14-140 mm and 20 mm (snapshots, just having the camera with me but no purpose)
- G9 with 8-18, 35-100 f2.8 and 100 - 300 mm (hiking, landscapes with chances to see animals)
The 20 mm is in almost all my kits and I must say it’s my favourite lens.

I typically travel with the 12-35 and 35-100 2.8's, but I think the one lens I love to use the most is the Leica 25mm 1.4. I just love that thing. It's my fav lens ever. When I first bought it I traveled to SF and we for fantastic weather and it was a great street photography lens. Lots of memories, so it's my fav.

Thanks. My travel kit is the GM1 with 12-32, 45-175 (more reach than the 35-100 f4 but still compact), Olympus 9-18mm, and the 20mm f1.7 (much more compact than the 25mm f1.4 or f1.7). All of this fits in a CozySpeed CamSlinger.

Good advice. I think you have given some very good options there. The only alternative that I was surprised you didnt include is the 14-140. It has been for me my most used travel lens. (I usually take along the 25mm 1.7 for low light situations like you also suggested.) I also own the 12 -60, but other than scenarios where it is likey to get wet, I always choose the 14-140 over the 12-60. The 10x zoom is fantastic for travel.
Thanks! The 14-140mm is a great lens too, but I guess I just don't usually go that long and prefer two lens combinations, so I don't have carry everything with me all the time.
What a great review for any budget. I always rent the 100-400, because in real life I don't have a purpose for it to use all the time. I took extensive notes, very well done.

For my hiking trips, I take my GX80 with the 12-32mm, 35-100 f4-5.6 & 20mm f1.7. I also take some 46mm screw-in filters and 37-46mm step-up ring. This is a very light and compact kit and all fits in a BYOB7 insert. For the interiors of dark drinking dens, I also have the Olympus LM-3 flash, modified to fit the GX80.
Very compact indeed and just about perfect for hiking.
Congratulations! Truly a pleasant and competent video. I’ve enjoyed a lot. I had about 8 MFT cameras and sold them all but 2. I just bought a Panasonic GX9 and still have a GM1. The lenses still in my possessions are: PanaLeica 15mm; Olympus 9-18mm; Olympus 45mm; the tiny Pana 35-100mm 4-5.6 and the PanaLeica 12-60 2.8-4. I’d probably stay with the Pana 14-140; Oly 9-18; Pana 15mm and Oly 45. More than I would ever need.

The lovely G85 and version 2 of the 14-140 makes for a very good combination-and a weather sealed kit! (will easily withstand light rain-not torrential rain-and neither could I!).And surprisingly light weight! For an even more compact kit, the 12-32mm and the 14mm F2.4mm are great to carry along with very little added weight (no weather sealing but the sheer compactness and quality of them easily outweigh that disadvantage). All these humble lenses are more than good enough for us consumers-even for pros too I would imagine, with remarkedly good IQ and few compromises!

I currently love the Panasonic 20mm f1.7 and the oly 45mm f1.8. Both are FIRE in low light and with just two focal lengths - you can get creative and think outside the box :)

I sold my Lumix 25mm 1.7. In two years, I never used it once. I take my GX80 everywhere I go, into the moorland or forested countryside, into towns and cites, into old buildings, especially cathedrals. Favourite lens for a jacket pocket is the 12-32mm kit lens and for extra reach the 45-150mm zoom. Favourite for visiting a city, day or night is the Leica 15mm 1.7 and it is also good in forests. A 7.5mm Laowa is superb in cathedrals where scenes where the shots exagerate the voluminous interiors. Recently added a lumix 12-60mm and hope to use it when taking just one lens in places where I can have a camera around my neck.

I just came back from a few days and nights in the German Alps, I'm happy to report that I liked my 2 lens combination: Olympus 8mm F1.8, 12-60mm Panasonic kit on my G80. I like to have a bit more reach so I'm saving up for the Olympus 12-200. Thanks to my experience walking in the snow shooting fast on the way to our camping site I discovered that changing lenses takes too long for my hiking partners and my personal taste. Taking off my gloves, fetching the other lens, uncapping, taking the lens off, putting the cap on, putting the new lens on, stowing away the former lens, recomposing, adjusting settings, taking the shot. I think my dream lens would be a 10-200 F2-F4, 700gr, weather sealed, no lens IS to keep the cost down. I would support a kickstarter for that.

The nearest option of your dream lens, which is indeed very close, is the Tamron 16-300:3.5-6.3 adapted with a 0.71x speedbooster. It results in a quite affordable stabilized 11,3-213:2.5-4.5... Compared to the Zuiko 12-100 it presents more flaws like distortion, chromatic aberrations, and slower af, but is more luminous, slightly wider and is stabilized. And I suppose that image quality of both lenses might be similar.

I got the Tamron 16-300 on a Viltrox 0,71 speedbooster. In the beginning the AF worked a bit, but now it only works for a very short moment so I use manual focussing. The picture quality is ok, however I now want something that matches the image quality of my better binoculars, and can work with a seafrogs underwater housing.
So I'm contemplating a new Sony APSC system with Tamron lenses, and saving up for that.
I have the Lumix 12-60 Panasonic version, and the 100-300mm Panasonic. Worked out extremely well as it covers a huge range and both fit in my peak design 5L bag perfectly. Could also add the Olympus 75mm F1.8 to fill the gap and do some wonderful portraits too!
That's also a good set-up.
A very well thought out video, despite owning a number of these lens I've just realised I've been taking lenses with me that I really shouldn't do as I'm covering the same focal length.
Nevertheless, a useful video for beginners and seasoned photographers.

My favourites are the leica 10 - 25mm f1.7 and lumix 42.5 F1.7. Also I use the lumix 14mm f2.5 and the lumix 12-60 and the olympus 40-150 f4/5.6. With these lenses I cover all my needs for cityscape landscape and portrait photography

15 to 20mm range is so versatile. I learned a too when I had a single focal length season going. It is so nice when you can visualise the framing without picking up the camera on so on. Using "foot zoom" gives you a bit of time to think more that results in better pictures than quick zoom&snap (at least for me it is like that).
My go-to lens is 12-35/F2.8. I like the speed, stabilized and good image quality. I could use a bit wider though which is why I take 8-18mm zoom along that often.
I have no primes for my Lumix GH5. 15mm and 20mm would both seems so tempting at times (or olympus 17mm which I'd prefer more as a focal lenght).
The 12-35mm F2.8 is a nice lens and really compact.
When I went to Rhodes two years ago I just had my 25mm 1.7 and a Fujinon vintage 55mm with me. Last year for a Berlin trip I only had my 12-35 2.8 and the 45-150 with me but then I bought the 20mm 1.7 and now it is my favourite lens I think. I use it for photography works too while for video works I almost never take the 12-35 off. If I had to think of a travel kit at the moment I would choose the 20mm 1.7 and try to use it as much as possible, maybe taking with me the slow 12 32 and the 45 150 just in case 😂 I'm much more relaxed leaving the pricey 12-35 at home if not necessary ahah

I’m new to Lumix S5 and would like a lightweight all purpose lens. I just have the 24-70 and find it heavy. Love your videos and am learning a lot from you!
The Lumix S 20-60mm F3.5--5-6 is good, the Sigma 45mm F2.8 is also good, if a prime would do. Sigma is going to announce three other compact primes today.
Hi Matti, a very helpful video thanks. I currently have a G9, Leica 12-60 and Lumix 45-150 for travel and vlogs. I went for the 45-150 just to have a little more reach than the 100. The Leica 12-60 lens stays on the camera most of the time. I have been thinking of a prime for low light situations, and either the Leica 15 or 25mm would cover that. At the moment I am leaning towards the new 25 for the water proof. Lots of good choices as you cover in the video.

14-140mm on the body, then just carry an XXmm F1.X prime of your liking for low light. Should cover 95% of uses well enough and all you have extra to carry is a prime.
For my minimalist setup I enjoy my Lumix GX85 with the 15mm lense

My favourite all round kit is: Panasonic 8-18, Olympus 12-100 & Panasonic 100-400.
Good topic. For me, I have 2 set ups. The Lumix 14-140mm ii as the first set up. Great easy travel lens. It's the first lens I got with the g9. Maybe not fast, but very versatile. The second set up I take around is the Lumix 25mm f1.7, Sigma 56mm f1.4, and Lumix 100-300mm ii.

Hi, I just found this video and the timing is good because now that I'm vaccinated I'm planning a little trip here in the U.S. I just purchased the Pan-Leica 15mm 1.7 lens (hasn't arrived yet). I'm thinking I'll take that along with two other lenses, the Lumix 12-60mm F3.5-5.6 and Lumix 45-150mm F4-5.6, and my G85 camera. Seems like a good way to get good coverage along with a good low-light option while traveling light. I also have a G9 and the Pan-Leica 50-200mm which are both wonderful but heavier. Nice kits Matti. You might consider a variation of the More Reach Advanced where you swap out the 12-35 for the Pana Leica 8-18 giving you 8-18 f2.8-4, 25 f1.4 & 35-100 f2.8 which is my current lens kit with the G9. I also like the Purist option of the 15mm only which I use with my GX9.

I've been shooting the amazing little Panasonic GX80 for just over a year now, built up a collection of five lenses. I find the one I use most, and therefore my favourite, is the Pana 45-150 f/4-5.6. Small and lightweight, inexpensive too. It's my kind of lens, I like zooming in on things, I like street where I can focus on an individual, blurring out just about everything else.
And to accompany the 45-150 I choose the 12-60, bigger than the 12-32, the 12-60 has obvious advantages, plus it just feels nice in my hand. Depending on how you hold the camera, some lenses can just feel too small, unbalanced.
Single lens travel choice (a thing I like to do sometimes) the nifty fifty equivalent, the 25mm.

Very similar to my choices. I use the 12-32 less and less now but, it's a lovely lens. If I am out, in a city say, I have it on the camera and the 45-150 in a pocket.
My favorite travel kit is the 12-32 mm and the 42.5 f1.7. I prefer the 42.5 mm over the 25 mm, because it is just as well able as the 25mm to isolate the subject, offers better shallow DOF, offers good low-light performance, is an excellent portrait lens, and allows small distance to subject, making it effectively a sub-macro lens. I may throw in my 35-100 mm f4.0-5.6 when I expect a need for telephoto.

I know I'm late to this particular party but the subject is one of great interest to me.
My base travel lenses are an Olympus 14-150mm ii and an Olympus 9-18mm.
If the holiday destination merits it, I can add other lenses, typically a Samyang 7.5mm, Lumix 14mm, Olympus 12-40mm pro or Olympus 75-300mm (but not all of them together!)
Good choices Matti. For travel I would take my GX85 with both the PL 15mm and the P42.5mm prime lenses. I bought them all for traveling and they offer excellent IQ, low light capability and very small size and weight.
That's also a great pair of lenses and can do a lot.
@@mattisulanto yes, and since I only travel carry-on or with a 60 litre backpack I can't fit any of my bigger Lumix cameras or lenses. As you suggested in your video less is more and can be liberating.
Interesting choices. In fact, my light end selection is just the kit lens 12-60 for the very same reasons you mentioned. It's actually amazing how great a bargain this lens is when buying in a kit. Real value for money! For the prime, I would follow your recommendation still and grab a 25mm 1.7 with. If I want a longer tube yet with me, I will add the 45-200mm in the cocktail. I like this lens as versatile tele. Size is perhaps not ideal for a traveller, but the quality is decent and in its'version II has the weather sealing, which I find important.

I like to mix lenses and cameras.😊 Usually I used an Olympus Pen F with a 45 mm f 1.7 and a GM1 with a DJI 15 mm f 1.7. I also carry an Olympus 9-18mm f4-5.6 and a Panasonic 12-32mm f/3.5-5.6 the that I rarely use because y prefer fixtid lens. I still wear the Panasonic 20 mm because I prefer it for portraits in small spaces rader than the 15 mm because it deforms less. I also have the Olympus 75mm F1.7 that I use for portraits due to the low depth of field that can be obtained and its excellent bokeh. All this equipment weighs only 2.5 kg, much smaller and lighter than my previous Nikon DSLR equipment

Spaced primes kit: laowa 7.5mm f2, sigma 16 1.4, olympus 75mm 1.8
need for speed: voigtlander 42.5 .95, panasonic 12mm 1.4. Could also include oly 1.2 pro lenses (or panasonic 42.5 1.2)
two light zooms: oly 9-18, panasonic 12-60 3.5-5.6

My travel kit for nature travelling: Two bodies (in the past G81 and GX9 or GM5, since a few weeks G9 instead of G81), Laowa 7,5mm f2, PanaLeica 12-60mm and (may be a bit surprising because of the overlapping to the PL) Pana 14-140mm II.
For city travelling: Laowa 7,5mm, Oly 9-18mm, PanaLeica 15mm f1.7 and PanaLeica 12-60mm plus two bodies.
I also own Pana 100-300mm I, but normaly I use it only for going to the zoo, lunar eclipse etc.

This is great - really good ideas. For me, I like 1 zoom and 1 prime for travel. The 12-60 3.5-5.6 and either the Panasonic Leica 25 1.4 or Olympus 17 1.8. Or if I want to go for maximum quality, I have the 12-40 Olympus 2.8 and the 75 1.8. Of course the Panasonic equivalents would be good too, and in the case of the zoom, even smaller. But the bigger pro lenses really balance better with at least a G85, and I like to travel with a smaller camera like the GX85.
I tried travelling with one prime once - the 25 1.4. I hated it, because it wasn’t wide enough for travel IMO. Your choice of the 15 mm lens makes a lot more sense for single lens travel.

My option 7 is an older panasonic lumix DC--ZS70. I have not upgraded because I still love the long zoom on this camera, 24-720mm. For my G85, it is 3 lumix slow zooms (7-14, 12-60kit, and 45-200), and the sigma 60mm f1.4 prime. They all fit nicely in my lowepro sling bag I use on my bike around Cologne. Sometimes my 17mm f1.8 prime Olympus joins me as well, but then the 60 has to come out.

For me a lens wider than 12mm belongs to a travel kit for buildings and narrow places in cities. The Laowa 7.5/2.0 is perfect for this. It is very small and the manual focus is simple at this focal length. My typical kit is Laowa 7.5/2.0, Pana 12-60/2.8-4.0, Pana 12/1.4 and sometimes Pana 35-100/2.8. The 12mm prime is the goto lens in the evening, at night and in dark places.

For me the 14-140 f3.5-5.6 plus Olympus 45m 1.8 and the Olympus fisheye 9mm f8.0 bodycap. The one I'd leave behind if forced to go even more compact would be the 45mm, so I'd take the 14-140 plus bodycap with my GX80 body.

Very few people think that the 14-140 is a poor lens. While not ultra sharp, it is excellent for a ten times zoom and there are plenty of 3x zooms that are less sharp. I have two 14-140 lenses and they are my most used lenses. Maybe you have a bad copy?

Barry Maskell agree. I still have an LX10. Not the best colour wise but way better than that dinosaur (referring to that old crappy 16mp sensor) of G80. The least loved camera I’ve ever had.

12-35mm 2.8 for everything including best video with G9 and 45mm 1.8 for portraits.

Excellent! Subscribed.. Best video I have seen on this topic. I have a GX9. I travel full time and have covered 80 countries. Lenses.. Olympus 17mm f1.8, Panasonic 7-14, Panasonic 12-60. Will swap the 12-60 for a 14-140 next year. Have a 25mm 1.7 Panasonic but never liked it or used it...

@@vgee3926 I have used maybe 50 plus cameras, I used to sell them. GX9 is remarkable. IF you need quality and features in a small, but usable package this is it. Paired with a 14-140 superb all day walkabout setup. In future as Sulanto said a 1.7 lens for low light and MAYBE a wide angle IF you do architecture. Enjoy!

My travel kit: GX7 with 14 f2.5 for walkaround/street/superlight travel; EM1 Mk1 with 12-100, 100-400 for longer trips with all sorts of sight-seeing; EM1 Mk1, 12-100, 25 f1.8 for longer city trips; then GX7 + adapted Nikkor 85 f2 for Gigapans (robotic tripod head). At all times with me when travelling: Laowa 7.5mm f2. Heading to Scotland in July with the EM1, 12-100 and 100-400; Japan in October with the full kit (GX7, EM1 Mk1, 7.5, 14, 12-100. 100-400). While I'm contemplating a G9 with the EM1 Mk1 as backup, it's hard to justify...

Hi Matti! My small travel kit would be my Lumix GM1 and the 12-32mm plus the 35-100mm. All of this is so small I can put them next to my toothbrush.
My larger travel kit would be my Lumix GH5, the Leica 12-60mm and my latest lens. The Lumix 45-175mm Power Zoom. Yes it is an older lens, but the reviews of this lens on TH-cam are excellent.
Future travel kit for me will include a B4 mount ENG lens. One of my two camera stores had a sale today on that adapter B4 to MFT..... yes, you guess what happened. This lens (don't have it yet) will come with me on airshows. Maybe a Finnish F18 Hornet 😀 😀 😀

Hi Matti... Having converted from full-frame (Nikon) - I have built my kit carefully over the last two years... I made the decision to only have ONE collection of lenses:- (1) The Classic Prime Triad (Panasonic-Leica 15mm f/1.7, Panasonic-Leica 25mm f/1.4 & Panasonic-Leica 42.5mm f/1.2) and (2) for my telephoto needs I chose the awesome Panasonic-Leica 100-400mm f/4-6.3 lens...
I carry them all in my Billingham Small Hadley Pro bag with my Panasonic GX85... For me this combination covers every scenario and in my mind is truly the ultimate combination available in m4/3 in one package (without overlap)... For me - if the subject is close (and safe enough) to photograph then a prime is best... I usually have the 25mm on my camera at all times... Choosing the other lenses only when their particular strengths are what my creative vision dictates... Most days I just walk around with the 25mm - it takes more than 70% of my photos...
When a new version of the Panasonic G9 comes out then I will consider treating myself!...

Thanks! You have a very traditional, almost old school kit, but it's simple and effective. I shoot the same way, one prime most of the time.
E-M1ii and Pana G7 for my other half and I, sharing the Pana 20mm f/1.7, Oly 30mm macro, and the Oly 12-40 f/2.8. Hoping to add a Pana 12-60 (non-Leica), Oly 45mm f/1.8 and PanaLeica 15mm f/1.7 and either a GX8 or Pen-F soon to fill out a nice balanced set of primes and zooms depending on how much we want to carry around that day.

My very lightweight travel kit for urban and countryside landscapes, M.Zuiko 9-18 mm, Lumix 20 mm F1.7, Lumix 12-32mm and M.Zuiko 45mm F:1.8. This and a camera body all packs into a very small bag.

Always difficult to choose a travel kit. In my last trip I've used most of the time the 25mm and sometimes the 15mm. During the previous one it was mainly the 15mm. Then depending on the travel I may also carry a UWA or a 45mm. Still thinking about it for the next travel...

My usual kit is similar to kit 3. The 12-32 and 35-100 but I have an Oly 17mm f1.8 instead of the 25mm and I also always take my little Oly 30mm macro lens. If I was going primes only I'd mix it up a bit with the 17mm, 30mm macro, 45mm f1.8 and throw in the Oly 9mm fisheye body cap for some fun.
I see in the posts here and on facebook that a lot of people use the 14-140mm lens for travel as their only lens. I have no experience with it but they all seem very happy with it. Any chance of a review on it?

Hello! I'm using a simple ++ kit together with a Panasonic gx85 - Panasonic 12-60mm f3.5-5.6 and the Sigma 30mm f1.4. The Sigma lens is a little bit better than the Panasonic 25mm f1.7 lens. Great results for such a small kit.

For Street Photography & Casual, I own a GX85 with 12-32mm, 14mm and 45-150mm Lenses.
For outdoor, my G9 with 12-60mm and 100-300mm has been enough for now.
But, the minimalistic way to travel, it is based on carrying my G7X Point Shooting that does the job with a 24-100mm equivalent Lens.

Good choices. I like to use the Lumix 14-140 ii and the Pana Leica 15mm f1.7. Wenn I Need something more Pro I use the Olympus 12-100 f4 + Leica 100-400 + Leica 15mm + Olympus Bodycap 9mm f8.

My recommendation: Two GX80 with Grip and the PanaLeica 12-60 and 50-200 mm, supported with the 15 mm 1.7 and one of the Converter TC14 or TC20 (on the wishlist). I use the GX80 every day, its cheap, stabil, practical and small.
The 100-400 and the G9 with some other lenses are in the other bag :-)

For a single lens to do it all, it's hard to beat the Panasonic 14-140mm lens. If I'm carrying three lenses, the 12-60mm kit lens, the 9mm F1.7, and the 100-300mm zoom.

With the addition of the Leica 10-25mm F1.7 we have a new option for travel lenses. It is neither light nor compact, but it covers so much ground, that it is worth considering. So my current travel choice (not super compact, but versatile) is the 10-25mm on a G9 (photo and video), the 100-400mm again on G9 and the olympus 12-100mm F4 on a EM1x. This does not fit in my pocket, so for such cases I use the GX80 with the 20mm pan cake or the 12-32mm. Unless I have dedicated time for photography and filming, the first set is a waste of space and weight :-)

After 20 years of travel photography, my travel kit, which fits in a small bookpack, has the Lumix G95, the 12-60mm Lumix lens you review above, a Lumix wireless flash and a Parrot Anafi drone. I use the drone for the majority of my shots now. It goes places no hand held camera can. Adding the drone has taken my photography to much higher level (literally!), because it can go almost anywhere I can imagine! The drone separates me from the pack of hand held photographers - most of whom are better than I!

I also thought the Lumix LX100 would be the ultimate minimalistic photograpic tool.
So I bought mine and enjoyed it indeed, until the built in zoom lens sucked dust that got in the sensor.
The repair involved a complete disassembly and reassembly of the camera, far too expensive. Not to mention that the failure could happen again. Bye bye LX100.

I narrow down my lens choice by what I need them for. South Africa? 100-400mm for obvious safari pics. 15mm f/1.7 for street photos with silent shutter and waist level unnoticed shooting. 12-35mm for general pics. In the Middle East, the lens selection can be tricky as you never shout on the sabbath and in fact, never bring a camera to your eye. I’ve shot in Finland with my 35-100.

I have personally arrived at a 4 lens kit for video, photo fun, and casual kid portraits:
*Wide zoom. I have the kit 12-60, but I want to replace it with the 12-35 f2.8. Power ois makes smooth non-gimbaled video possible. (Don't tell anyone, but I sometimes use a thin 58mm thread wide angle converter for x0.71.... or a 8.5mm wide angle. 17mm equiv for like $20 on AliExpress. It is practically rectilinear, and only flairs a tiny spot in high direct sun. I will admit that focus speed performance is slightly worsened when adapted.) The kit lens itself is really a steal, and I think the r&d on the lens was really spent wisely by pany to sell more Lumix camera bodies😂 Great kit lens.
*Standard prime. The 20mm F1.7 is so great, I forgive it for it's autofocus struggles and noise. It is close enough to '35mm equiv' I am satisfied. It is my lower light video solution. It is my "casual photos as the park or restaurant or outing" lens. It is indispensable for indoor photos of kids birthdays/Christmas morning... Any longer of a focal length and I can't compose well indoors with tight space and moving kids 😂. Even the 25mm was a tad to long, I sold it. (pinpoint autofocus is the only way to go on the 20mm). $120 eBay.
*Normal (almost portrait) prime. My sigma 30mm f1.4. I can't find anything else (that isn't a cheapo fully manual) with that kind of apurature for the money. Sigma IQ is great, and they engineered this with APS-C in mind... so the MFT version only takes advantage of the center of the image circle. It is sharp anyway, but the center is where a lens is most sharp! My sigma pulls double duty: both the closest thing I have to a portrait lens and my almost 'nift fifty'. Used for planned cinematic shots (so good wide open), some macro-esc and product photography, and lots of outdoor portraits. Just did a cute kids Easter shoot with it last weekend. $180 eBay.
Long zoom. Panasonic 45-175 w/ power OIS! The kit gap between 35 and 45 will not bother me. Not fast, but great reach! Unlike other zooms, this one is compact and zooms internally. Beats the 45-200 on size! Very sharp (every lens I have is good with sharpness actually 😂). Video on this thing is a dream because of the stability. Power OIS has its best application at these long focal lengths - and you can zoom soooo smooth with it's unique electronic zoom rocker switch instead of wrenching the zoom ring! Underrated lens. $130 eBay.
Truthfully my bag is still small and portable. The wide adapter and 20mm pancake fit in bag's pockets. It's like carrying just a ready camera and 2 spare lenses besides.

@@mattisulanto Exactly. Getting older (63) also means not lugging around more than you need to. Fits all into a smallish backpack or medium-sized shoulder bag. Tripods are secondary with that IBIS...
On a trip earlier this year to Norway I took my GX8 with 12-60 zoom and 2 Leica Panasonics, the 15mm and 25mm. The zoom was better for rainy days in Bergen, but in Tromsø it was too cold for rain so I used one or other of the primes. Before I got the Leica lenses I had a trip to Paris and St Malo where I just had the 12-60 zoom and a Lumix 20mm. I think that was possibly a better kit, with the 20mm being really good for street photography, it's so tiny and unobtrusive!

I am missing ultra wide angle solution in at least one of the kits. Especially for city architecture, but also landscapes a super wide angle is a must have for me. When I take only one lens then it has to be ultra wide like the 8-18. If I carry a second lens then I add a telephoto zoom.
The 8-18 is a good option i hear that or the 7-14.

Here in the US, we now can start to travel again. I had purchased my MFT Panasonic camera last year expressly for traveling and photography. I have followed your advice and now have a couple of the lenses discussed in this video.
Last year, I contaminated my sensor changing the lenses and needed to send the camera back for professional cleaning. I would like to avoid doing that again!
So, do you have any suggestions for changing a lens outdoors? Also, what is your opinion on using a superzoom lens instead of changing lenses? I thought of the Lumix 14-140mm in lieu of my kit 12-60mm and 45-175mm for outdoors. I also bought the 20mm 1.7 II prime (I love that little lens!) that I would have to change for indoor, low light use.

My advice is to be careful where to change lenses and I like to keep the mount facing down when I change. I'm very much a prime guy and I change lenses very seldom on location. That also answers your question about superzooms😀 I mean, they are fine, but not for me.

the 8-18 is for internal shots - and larger objects like houses, boats, gardens etc The 8-18 and 12-60 are my most used lens. I also have the (lightweight) 45-175 and 12-35 which is my 'out for a walk' lens kit. All go on my G9

I wouldn’t include the 25 with the other lenses. 12-35 F2.8 across the range works really well and covers the 25mm. The Leica 42.5 adds a terrific portrait prime. Wildlife? Add the 100-400mm. And take the great 15mm f1.7 for night and street photos.

Lumix 12-35 2.8, 35-100 2.8, 100-300, Zuiko 45 (portraits). Not quite the smallest kit. The 100-300 is plenty of fun even on urban safari. I am lazy and still like zooms. 😁 If I am totally lazy I only carry the 14-140 HD, but this lens has low contrast even though the sharpness is totally fine. My minimal serious kit would be the 12-35 & 35-100.
