  • How to Make Victorian Lampshades | DIY Victorian Lampshade Set | I am revisiting an old project today and making two new Victorian style lampshades. Since my first attempt I have been dying to try my hand at making lampshades again and honestly I see myself making so many other one's in the future. Since I am working on renovating my bedroom I thought no bedroom would be complete without a beautiful lampshade set.
    I wanted to challenge myself a bit with the color scheme of this project. As much as I want red to be a primary color in my bedroom 1) My last lampshade was red and 2) As much as I love the monochromatic look the vibe I want to go for in my bedroom is a lot more robust I want layers and textures and patterns and I think this warm copper color would complement the decor nicely adding depth and visual interest.
    So for that reason (and having a fear of buying unseen fabrics online) I decided to dye my own fabric to the color I had envisioned in my mind. This meant a bit of time trying to find as many non synthetic fabrics and fringe to make my dye job as easy as possible (spoiler alert I still ran into some issues).
    In this video I show you all the steps on making these lampshades from the very beginning of taping your wire frame, custom dying fabrics (including synthetics) applying trims and even creating a rosette. These were very simple but a very fun and extravagant accent to add to your home decor. Hope you enjoyed watching.

    My grandma used to have a lampshade store, where she made lampshades just like this one (as well as modern ones). She actually used fabric glue for big parts of the seam binding to prevent it from slipping, which can happen with newer lampshade frames. I got similar shaped shades at home, but turned the other way so they look like flowers, but this is actually so pretty I might have to remake them!

    This is absolutely incredible! Beyond beautiful and your method is easily followed. My only, only nitpick, obviously offered without your asking, is that your background music is a tiny bit too loud. It conflicts with your voice at some points. I know this is an editing issue, and I personally like hearing critiques I can correct. It might just be my hearing, too! Thank you so much for sharing this with us. ❤

    I watch a lot of tutorials on you tube and your's is by far the most beautiful video I've seen, I enjoyed watching it as much as I enjoyed learning the process. Usually I just speed up the tutorial until I get to the part I want to learn about but I watched the whole thing, normal speed, start to finish and learned so much. Beautiful filming and editing skills.

    Hi Nasya! Great video & can't believe I was searching for a tutorial on the exact day you posted this! Do you have any tips on which fabrics are best to use for this kind of a project? In terms of opacity for light shining through, ease of stitching, safety with lightbulbs etc?

    I loved your first vintage shade video and this one is just incredible, too!! You’ve inspired me to try it out but I’m not sure what fabric to use for the base. I’ve tested different ones, including cotton but you can always see the light bulb through it which is so frustrating ahh. What fabric did you use for the base?

    • @NasyaAcostaSmith
      @NasyaAcostaSmith  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thank you so much 🖤 Silk has been used since the Victorian era and holds up well to heat. I would recommend doubling or even tripling up layers of fabric for each section. I use at least two and with thinner fabrics that often does the trick to make it less transparent. With one layer of the fabric I used you could see straight through to the light bulb too but with multiple layers and then a chiffon/lace on top you can't see it at all. Have fun!

    • @NasyaAcostaSmith
      @NasyaAcostaSmith  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Ah how fun! What does yours look like?

    • @Lolieif
      @Lolieif 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@NasyaAcostaSmith well, other than half finished 😂, it’s a interesting (and massive) scalloped bell style with a gallery along the bottom rim. It’s much narrower at the top than the bottom. The diameter of the bottom is 25 inches, but the top is only about 7, and it curves quite a bit between the two. I’ve recovered it with a deep burgundy fabric, and while I initially got black trim, I’m wondering if it would look better with a different color. I made the mistake of sewing the trim on instead of using fabric glue, which took ages longer, but would mean I could change out the trim much easier…
      I’ve currently been stalled on it because I don’t want to undo all that work, but I also don’t love how it’s looking yet.
