I've always found that relaxing and trying to control your breathing makes most double visor helmets work just fine, as long as they have a good venting system. A nose covering flap or piece does make a huge difference, getting the moisture down and out of the helmet. Good to see your friends ride cats too!
I'll be honest I never even tried the vents, they never seemed to help much on my GMAX helmets in the fall and spring with the single shield but now I'm wondering if the castle vents work better and would have solved the problem. I was doing all I could to control my breathing, very use to that from the single pain goggle days haha, but it was no use that night.
Thanks for doing this video. I've decided to get a new helmet for next snowmobile season, and the Scorpion AT950 (or if it's available in time, the new AT960) was right at the top of my list. I didn't realize that the Castle helmets were essentially the same helmet. This definitely opens up more options for me now.
I got the same helmet and love it. Works perfectly with no fogging and it breathes very nicely. I would definitely pick one up. Well worth the money for the performance. The breath box works like a champ. I usually wear an XL and the XL I got fits true to size. PS if you are getting the breath moisture make sure to look inside the breath box at the front of the helmet and there is an internal vent in there that you have to open up for the breath box to work properly. It comes with the internal vent closed. Cheers
Nice review. I also have this helmet and bought my wife the same. We both love it. It's great having a modular that has a sporty look with all of the features. I've experienced the exact same issue with 'breath moisture' that you mentioned. Nothing like lifting the lid on stops and having a deluge come out. ;) I highly recommend this helmet to anyone looking.
I have had this helmet for few years now...i found this helmet out of box was really bad with fogging which wanted to through it out...however i have worked with it and went through numerous baclavas and Goggles to make this helmet comfortable warm and all around best helmet... I HAVE TESTED IT in the mountains cold northern wi and u.p. temps..also used it in summer ...this helmet does it all with the set up I have...I helmet for any season..I was able to wear the goggels and still utilize the modular feature on it..The best part is if its really cold or getting roost in the face i can close the visor and or electric shield while using tbe goggles...I ONLY USED HEATED SHIELD ONCE while it was sleeting....I LOVE THIS HELMET..It is a lil cool whicg I love because I do run hot...and moisture is the enemy...
I've heard of them but never used one. I always switch my GMAX to summer mode for bike riding but don't think I'll do that with this one... They tend to get muddy haha.
I'll see if I can squeeze that in at some point. I basically have the color set to "GoPro", angle set to super wide @ 1080. I think everything else is unchanged.
@@SwankyCatProductions Ok. Thanks man! There are a bunch of other settings too. I have a hero 7 also. Once in a while my videos are looking a little weird. Fuzzes out once in awhile. I wish the wind noise wasn't so loud.
I wear glasses and also run the CKX Mission. Best helmet I’ve ever had. No fog on my glasses or the visor, and no electric visor. The breather box fits nicely over your mouth and nose, and expels the warm air to the rear. Canadian prairies, down to -35 and no problems.
I do notice that every video I can find on this helmet no one shows the back of the helmet. They say it’s dot fmvss 218 standard but I noticed that their is no label on the back which makes it illegal on the road. I would love to get some clarification on that because I am interested in it.
I have both the Scorpion version motorcycle helmet and the Castle X snowmobile version and so far love them. I got the Scorpion for my dual sport last spring, fell in love, then got one for the snowmo this fall. Love how they fit, and the features and quality are pretty good for a price point helmet. And yep, the warmer and tighter a snowmobile gets, the more chance of trapping moisture inside. I've always connected the power cord for the heated visor directly to the battery and I've never had a problem in thirty plus years of using them. As for the brim, I'll tilt my head down just enough/long enough while riding into the sun or getting roosted with snow or gravel. Love your channel.
I believe the heated visors don't have the anti-fog coating on the inside like the non heated visors do. At least this has been my experience so far. The advantage of the heated ones is that they are easier to clean and keep polished since there's no coating on the inside to wear off. But yes, they do fog up easily without the power plugged in.
Mmm yeah that might be the issue. I see they have a non heated version too which probably has a coating but also looks like it has some foam to help trap the moisture.
i have this helmet also are while i do like it and it is a great helmet for me at least above 40mph the wind noise is real loud and the helmet is heavy for my skinny neck which after riding is real sore getting the mission carbon fiber for next year
I have this helmet.. the only problem is the seal around the shield to the helmet is already letting in cold air. I need to replace the seal after 1 year, or about a dozen uses. Also, the breath box fills with a ridiculous amount of condensation even when vented.. coupled with the cold air leaks , it freezes by the end of the ride
That's disappointing about the seal. Yeah it definitely builds up a lot of moisture! The cord falls out of the Castle helmet? Mine seems pretty secure so far.
@@SwankyCatProductions yep, we rode a lot last year at this time had tons of snow in southeast wi.. put in a lot of miles.. started happening after about a couple hundred miles. I bought my daughter this helmet too.. the part that hold the cord won’t stay straight and the cord actually pulls the connector vertical.. yeah it’s frustrating. Bought 2 at one time
Isnt there a sliding vent you can open and close or adjust on the helmet right where you mount the go pro? Isnt there a vent for the top of the head to breath? I have the exo scorpion 950 heated helmet and its a modular helmet also. It has vents at the front where you mount the go pro that are adjustable and it has a vent on top of the helmet that you can open to catch some cool air and vent it out the back of the helmet. Heated helmets are great for trail riding. Yep amount of hair matters when it comes to fitting comfortably in a helmet.
There are and I did not try opening any of them. My old helmets vents didn't seem to do anything so I sort of forget they even exist. On this one they may have made a big difference!
I have struggled with helmets forever because I have to wear glasses. Had many different ones over the years. The best one I have found so far is the BRP Modular 3. Solved most of my glasses fogging issues it's just not super comfortable. I would love to know what other glasses wearing people use or if the Oxygen helmet is the answer. I would gladly pay good money if I could solve this problem.
I need a new real snowmobile helmet as well. I too been rocking a makeshift one out of my motorcycle helmet. Do you know if your old dragon is still alive?
Mine just barely gets covered, sometimes I'll have to pull the front down a little but it's ok otherwise. I do get a little draft depending how my gator is positioned but compared to my GMAX it's definitely must better.
A 400$ helmet shouldn't have D rings, especially, a winter/ snowmobile helmet, where you use gloves. Even the cheaper helmets have ratchet type buckles.
I think that's probably because they just didn't change anything other than the name when they rebranded it. It's really just a motorcycle helmet and like most around it's price point (without the heated shield) D loops are what's expected.
That helmet is absolute junk we went through 3 Shields on it wife and I both upgraded to oxygen helmets and can't be happier. I wore an mx style helmet with goggles for years and while it's the best set up from fogging and visibility, it's just not very warm on cold days
The shields heating element just quit you mean? I see they have a non heated version of the shield and it looks like it has a huge moisture trap, wonder how long that would hold out for...
@@SwankyCatProductions two of the shields just stopped working. One shield had the power cord port break but couldnt be fixed. Dennis Kirk replaced one on their dime but Castle X was no luck. I strongly suggest you try on or try and Oxygen helmet. The field of vision is amazing and it's almost too quiet. You can get one end of season for about $425. I'm not sure about the true all season helmet. Most helmets shields are not DOT approved because of double lens, but you need double lens for fogging, even if heated. I'd hate for you to spend hard earned money on something with problems. I know lots of people have that helmet but my experience was not great.
