When I was newly married 9 years ago and learning how to bake and figure out measurements... You are the first person I watched on TH-cam. And the rest is history. I so appreciate you giving measurements in gms and cups. It's so so helpful. Thank you!
No apologies needed, Stephanie. You're such a natural & your step by step instructions are succinct. Will definitely try this fruitcake. Thanks for sharing the recipe.
I’ve used the two other fruitcake recipes on your site for several years. Both are great. I think this is close to the round fruitcake you prepared several years ago except the fruit here is not macerated in liquor ahead of time…that technique is hard to beat for flavor! Thank you for all your great recipe ideas!
My grandmother used to make a fruit cake called Brandy Cake. And she would ferment the fruit for months as well. Everyone in the family loved that cake. I can't wait to try this one. Cheers!
How do u dunk a cake in alcohol ? Like, take a big bowl (bigger than the cake), fill it with alcohol, & then dip the cake in it - Is this right ?... or some any other way & r u supposed to just dunk the cake in alcohol & instantly take it out in 1 second Or r we supposed to keep the cake in alcohol for a couple of seconds or minutes ???
@@SuperSasky. My mother and grandmother made dark fruitcake to die for from a recipe handed down for several generations in my grandmother’s family. Each cake weighed 5 pounds and took the two of them two days to make two or three of them. I was able to make it once with my mother before she developed Alzheimer’s and I became disabled. They made them at Thanksgiving and then added small amounts of alcohol over the time until Christmas, wrapping them tightly in plastic wrap and aluminum foil. They preferred to use brandy but mostly used homemade wine that was given to them. They were Southern ladies, and t-totalers. You wouldn’t have caught them dead near an ABC store or actually asking someone to buy alcohol for them. But Christmas wasn’t Christmas without a fruitcake soaked with alcohol! I loved them dearly! I have the recipe but am not physically able to make it. I’ve found two fruitcake recipes on YT that are quick and easy- something I can do. Neither have the lovely dark color that I remember which I think came from molasses. I’m looking at fruitcake recipes that say “dark” specifically. The picture of the fruitcake in this video is not dark in my opinion. My family fruitcakes were not as dark as the Jamaican black fruitcake which I’ve never had. Maybe next Christmas! I am going to try to make an easy fruitcake in the next couple of weeks.
Very nice receipt . You are very kind, takling about alternatives🥰. But it is a marvellous cake, and if people don’t like the ingredients, I say: Bake another cake🤭. Thank you for all your good programs.
My husband and I love Christmas cake! I'm going to try this recipe. Thanks Stephanie! My regular banana bread recipe has candied mixed fruit in it, and I have to stock up so I can make it all year.
Excellent fruit cake recipe. I love that all your recipes because they are also written in grams (Measurements in grams are infallible) Thank you. Excelente receta de pastel de frutas. Me encantan que todas tus recetas porque están tambien escritas en gramos ( Las medidas en gramos son infalibles) Gracias🏵
Stephanie, you’re the best! I’ve never liked fruit cake but your recipe sounds so good that I’m going to try it. The joke with my friends is that 20 year old fruit cake can be eaten, as a gift, used as a weapon or a door stop 🤣. Hopefully this will be the first fruit cake I like. 👍🏼
Wow ! Good to see a new recipe. When I plan to make cakes , I just trust joy of baking, honestly ❤ I don’t go to any other recipes as I have tried most of your cakes and Black Forest is my kids favorite made with your recipe . Thanks . Pls keep uploading new videos .
Hi Stephanie, wow, yet another amazing recipe, I love the look of this cake so much, will definitely be making it, EXACTLY as you do it, because I know it will be stunning, I love your face every time you mention ‘brush with alcohol’, brilliant….thank you so much, can’t wait to try it x💕🇬🇧x
I love fruitcake, the first recipe I ever made of yours was the mincemeat loaf cake with marzipan, the flavors reminded me of fruitcake, I was looking for something to do with mincemeat I canned and to try out a new recipe I had to make my own marzipan, which makes it cheaper to make. I am so wanting a piece of fruitcake, going to have to try this one.
Thanks, Stephany for the wonderful and delicious recipe you shared! I made this last week and now curing them. I tasted 2 loaves (of 10) and they’re really good I must say, the family love them too! I don’t think they’ll last 3weeks or reach Christmas. 😅 If there’s anything I’ll do/change in the recipe - is to soak the dried fruits in the alcohol.
I like the idea of "this cake will keep for ages". Unfortunately I have friends, family and neighbours who believe that any cake I make has to be eaten in minutes 😃😃 Lovely recipe and very clear recipe as always
I love fruitcakes, did many recipes and this year I'll use this one for Christmas... melted butter is a novelty for me in this type of cake! - Never tried the so called 'boiled' one. It is on my list!
Wow my finished cake looks exactly like yours. It is delicious too. My husband has been smiling all day, just hope we have some left over at Christmas time. Thank you so much, your videos are a wonderful addition to our relearning baking for fun as seniors.
I love fruitcake, the first recipe I ever made of yours was the mincemeat loaf cake with marzipan, the flavors reminded me of fruitcake, I was looking for something to do with the mincemeat I canned and to try out a new recipe I had to make my own marzipan, which makes twice what I needed (freezes good for the next time) and is so much cheaper than buying it. That one looks delicious, want to try making it.
This looks delicious, Stephanie. I've just bought my ingredients, so I will make my cake this week. I'll be sure to check your white fruitcake recipe, too. Many thanks!
I saw fruit cakes in media growing up and it was always negative. I tried it one year and it was gross. I realize I just don’t like the synthetic candied fruit. There’s a weird flavor. If I make fresh candied fruit it’s yummy. It wasn’t until I watched British baking shows that I realized dried fruit was a thing in baked goods. I started making my own fruit cakes. I know so many people who hate them who have never tried them or have only had store bought ones. I think there is a stigma around this cake. It’s odd. Edit. I’ve watched your channel years ago. You’re so much more animated now. I love how much you love fruit cakes. Your passion shows through. It’s adorable and the joy is palpable. 💕 made me smile
This looks like an easy recipe, ill make this to give as to my friends for Christmas…i used to make Christmas cookies but decorating them was a bit of a work.
My history of fruit cake goes back before you were born. Please note I still have the container in which the came. Both containers were my mothers and one is easy to date as it came from the late 40s that has the nation's shield on the top and the side has a profile of all presidents up to Harry Truman. Mother used them for buttons and still is. We had fruit cake every year that I can remember, and I am older than the President's container. After 1960 when I went to the military it was one thing that I miss around Christmas time. My wife and the kids didn't care for fruit cake so it has been something I buy for myself. They never lasted long after the new year. Yes, I ate mostly all myself. I am at an age where cooking has become a hobby so I am going to start buying ingredients and make my own cake from your recipe. Only problem is how do I keep from eating it all. I guess brushing it with Brandi for a couple of weeks will help but what do I do after I cut and eat a piece? My mouth is already waiting for the first bite and I don't have the ingredients yet.
A Tip with heavy, rich desserts like this (and pecan pie) serve them with unsweetened whipped cream, it makes a perfect compliment, and helps to cut the sweetness a little.
Other good subsitutes for molasses are Golden syrup and sorghum. I use sorghum myself. Sorghum is harder to find than molasses is, we buy it from a mennonite store here in the Ozarks.
This recipe looks so good ma’am I just want to ask ,without soaking the fruits in alcohol, won’t it cause any problems? Even though you later brush with alcohol
So tasty!!! I have some candied fruit that’s been marinating in Apricot Brandy for a year. Is it safe to use them this year in a Fruit Cake recipe.. I soak the fruit cake in the brandy as well. Thank you for sharing. There are so many people who don’t like fruit cake. Glad my mom made it when she was living. Fruit cake brings back memories of the good ol days when life was simple. Again, thank you, Stephanie 😊
Good morning! This cake sounds so amazing! I was curious though, is there any way you could send me an Amazon link to the specific candied mixed peel that you get?
I’m sorry but I’ve never used a microwave for baking so I can’t answer your question. Here is the link to the recipe where I say pan size www.joyofbaking.com/breakfast/BananaBread.html
Yeh yeh classic thank you Stephinie always perfect thank you so much nd I'm sorry my phone was frozen I will sent the telegram when I'm sure is working properly sorry God bless
Hello Stephanie, I have already soaked my dried fruits 3 months ago, can I proceed with this recepie. In cup measurements can you tell me the total amount all fruits nuts etc. I will be most thankful.😮
Dear Stephanie... whats the major differences between this Fruit Cake compared to your Boiled version? but Boiled version seems to be even more moist because the dried fruits are plumped up due to the boiling.... i will try your boil version first :D *replacing some of the water with Rum
I too, once tried Stephanie's boiled fruit cake recipe using molasses instead of the water that the recipe called for. Turned out too dry. Then again another time I think I did half water and half molasses - that turned out wonderfully moist and flavoursome.
When I was newly married 9 years ago and learning how to bake and figure out measurements... You are the first person I watched on TH-cam. And the rest is history. I so appreciate you giving measurements in gms and cups. It's so so helpful. Thank you!
Here it is June 2024 and I'm back in fruitcake mode for next Christmas. The best part is that I get to watch your fruitcake segments again.
No apologies needed, Stephanie. You're such a natural & your step by step instructions are succinct. Will definitely try this fruitcake. Thanks for sharing the recipe.
Just made this it is absolutely gorgous as are all your recipes that I have made. Thank you.
Beautiful Fruit cake! Always inspired by your baking skills! ✨Thanks for sharing! 💗
Stephanie I wanted to say your video was the first I saw on how to make fruit cake and since been making it every year and it's been 8 years

Decades of cakes and I've never made fruit cake and I've enjoyed this treat many times. Time for a plan.
I love all you recipes, this one I will do definitely! !thank you very much, you are such a wonderful lady
In the Caribbean we soak our fruits in the alcohol for months before making our fruit cake. Some also dunk it in the alcohol after baking.
How do u dunk a cake in alcohol ? Like, take a big bowl (bigger than the cake), fill it with alcohol, & then dip the cake in it - Is this right ?... or some any other way
& r u supposed to just dunk the cake in alcohol & instantly take it out in 1 second

I love, love the Caribbean fruit cake made with the fruits that have been soaked for months. Delicious!!!
@@cliffi5498 we just pour the alcohol over the cake while it is in a container/pan and then wrap it in foil/ cling wrap

How can u prevent the top from cracking ? Or is that normal
A little cracking is okay.
👍
Can I use golden syrup instead of molasses? If yes, then should i use the same measure as of molasses.
Yes you could use an equal amount of golden syrup or even honey.
Hello ! I have seen the round fruit Cake on your site and even tried it...I just want to ask... can I make this cake in a round tin ?
Yes you could use a round cake pan.
@@joyofbaking Thanks very much
I think the dark color comes mainly from the molasses.
MHu ! What’s the substitute for alcohol
You can use fruit juice.
Can I use oil instead of butter please reply
I’ve never tried that but it should work.
What could be the substitute to alcohol?
You can use fruit juice.
Hello this how many pound?
I’m sorry but I don’t know the weight of the cake.
Takes much longer to bake than what you recommend .. mine was still raw at 1 1/2 hours at 300 degrees
You could buy a free standing oven thermometer to double check your oven’s calibration. Or different ovens can cause a difference in baking times.
Well, I tried making it and it will not last for weeks and weeks in our home😂
