Excellent description of Sinker Redwood, Chris. I've made about thirty guitars with Sinker Redwood tops, and my stash is dwindled down to where it's like the treasure of El Dorado. Good Sinker excels for fingerstyle guitars, especially those optimized for open tunings, and, I would say, high end rosewood back and sides. You make a guitar with these woods, it's almost like cheating. I would describe the tone in synesthetic terms: It sounds like like an ultra-premium Cabernet, with the best Swiss Dark Chocolate, and notes of tangy citrus on top... outside on a cool night, with the Aurora Borealis scintillating in the northern sky. Absolutely sumptuous. By the way, Chris, you are a warm, engaging, sensitive, and talented player. I could listen to you all day!
Let us all admit it Chris... You are just the best. Always so incredibly generous with information. We learn so much from the work you do. And your work really effectively helps us decide what is best for us.
Im a violin maker and I build cedar tailpieces for violins, I love redwood. Im planning on making a violin top using redwood. My sisters violin has a cedar top instead of spruce. In terms of the sound, Its rich and warm like a strad violin. Id say cedar gives even more rich tones on the G and D strings over the strads.
Chris, your literary description of the tonal quality of this guitar was right on. To the rest of you viewing this, I want you to know I had a very pleasant purchase of an online guitar. I had conversations with Chris and an associate that totally dismissed any apprehensions of a sight unseen purchase. Kudos to Alamo music and Chris. They are now my on line music store.
I have just bought a Taylor ps14ce with sinker redwood and macassar ebony. Sounds sweet. Thanks Chris for the videos you do Great fun watching. Dean 🇬🇧 🙏 ❤️
Back in 2005 I sat in a MARS music and played all of the grand auditorium Taylor’s they had. 314, 414, 514, 614, 814, 914. All were cutaway and my favorite of all of them was the 514CE… western red cedar top and mahogany back and sides. Loved the sound! Not a bad price either at $2200 or so. Ended up with a Collings SJ instead, which was better and today worth much much more, but I would still love to have that 514!
Hey Chris. Should send me a cut also. I got mine exactly the same as this,w/o the fancy inlaid.Early 2015. I don't know if you got yours. Then got another one in and thankfully sold it to me. But the sound it has now is the sweetest, purist sounding guitar I've ever heard. I've retold that Sinker story dozens of time, just like you retold to these folks. It's all so cool! I have your original video of my guitar. Watched it,then called immediately and you got it to me. Thank you so much,Craig.
I have 912ce, k14, k24 and a Martin D45 standard. Gotta say I love all of them, but the thing that really bugs me is I wanna add a sinker redwood top to my collection 😪-wife’s gonna kill me
i love the last song you played. so beautiful please share , i just bought the guitar cannot wait for it to arrive! thanks for the inspiration! the song starts at around 12:54 please share!
A issue with these great videos is that it makes me want one. Truth is the photos don't do it justice. This is ALMOST to glitzy for me, but it sounds so good. Even with a light touch. Goes good with my singing, or so says my audiences. I think it's warmed than Koa, but Taylor just came out with some nice LTD Edition all-Koa guitars. Thanks for the demo & guitar.
Hi, it's me again this morning. I am bold to say myself that my next shopping will be high end Taylor guitar. I just feel that very premium feel when I touch the high end Taylor guitars unlike other brand. That's my bottom line. My next shopping will be at Singapore.
Sinker Redwood is The Most Phenomenal tonewood top , in my humble opinion , for finger style guitar anyway. It's sweet and sparkly like cedar on steroids with hints of the best spruce tone woods selected for finger style player. Redwood is almost as good , but the Sinker adds more sparkle and looks spectacular amazing. Oh..I also have a scgc OM Tunnel 13 Redwood top & BrzRW back/sides , .. I believe the age and stresses of the tunnel support and weather gave it all the similar tonal properties of Sinker , with a beautiful dark apperance but missing the amazing visual verigation ❣❣💓
Great review! I have a redwood/rosewood Cole Clark made from one of those Cali redwoods that was planted in Aus. Love the warmth, sometimes I wonder if for someone who likes to strum, I’d be better suited for a Taylor Koa (even the 224k-Ce-dlx) anyway cheers! Loved your reviews on the Acoustasonic too!
Good question. If you strum and want dynamic control from compression a koa top would due that very well. If you want volume and dynamic range as a strummer I would look at spruce for that. - Chris
Hmmm...I know most can't afford this awesome guitar. So what in Taylors lineup is comparable in sound, for some on a lessor budget? (smack me, maybe another manufacturer can fulfill this).
Tman look into L ‘Benito guitars, I’ve one have several and they are just as good if not better for around $1,000, maybe cheaper. His company went out of business unfortunately but there is one on reverb right now for sale. The one that’s gonna sound very similar to this is the one with the Alerce top. It’s a old growth South American redwood with very similar tonal qualities. The trees have supposedly been dated to up to 3,000 years old. They only grow in Chile. I have a few videos on my channel. Only problem is Benito used heavy finish. He worked for Taylor for many years, his guitars look almost identical but they have more of a Spanish sound, he used cedar necks not mahogany.
Oh my, this has an amazing sound. I own a k26 and wonder if they’d be too similar to justify getting this. I was planning on getting a sassafras wood 914, but this might change my mind. What’s your opinion on the difference between them?
I have this guitar, regular 914ce and a k24...they all sound beautiful but have their differences. This I would say is in between the k24 and 914 with spruce top...best of both worlds.
Hey! It is ONLY.....$5999, ;) More photos at the link. We only have two so far that we have been able to get. www.alamomusic.com/taylor-914ce-limited-edition-grand-auditorium-sinker-redwood-rosewood-natural/
it's a nice sounding guitar, but unless you're just a die-hard Taylor lover who prefers the aesthetics over pure sound ...I'd say don't waste your money, there are guitar 1200 USD or 1500 usd which are monumentally better in terms of sound and on par with feel.
Jimmy swag I just picked up my custom satin finish 224ce-k dlx the other day and I love it. I played it next to guitars more than double the cost and I found it to sound much better. Apparently the satin finish is a guitar center exclusive.
@@uncleBE3F yeah I have the gloss finish. The older it gets the better it sounds too. Just a little tip though. Change string brands every month or so it really makes the guitar sound much better I use elixirs for a month and then change over to d addario or Martin's . I find it really helps keep the sound better in it. Otherwise its as if the guitar gets used to the string and doesn't ring as much
Hey! Your videos are great! However, on all your Taylor reviews you seem to consistently play the same bluegrass/folky riff along with basic chords and really nothing special. It’s almost something that a beginner would play when they first learn guitar. If you’re going to review guitars $2,000-10,000, it would be AWESOME if you would demonstrate with worthy riffs and skills. The people who are considering these guitars seriously are professionals.
Chandler Tyson I think Chris plays the same riffs so that we can easily compare how all the different guitars sound from video to video. Also, the simpler riffs make it easier for me to compare.
I don't like the sound, sounds so cheap! for the price omg.. G on bass dies without sustain, i dunno if it's the recording device (i doubt) but it sounds like a chinese copy of it
Esteban guitars has come out with a Stinker wood guitar. Made from wood from old shithouses that were under sewage water and urine for 40 years. They smell like shit but the brilliance is uncanny. The lows are fart like and the highs are like urine hitting on a sidewalk.

Gorgeous.
An absolute looker. Pretty pretty wood grain and clear as a bell sound.
I'm smitten. Hook, line and sinker.
I see what you did there... Sinker
Love Taylor Guitars but I'll stick to my KOA :) Thank You Chris for another great vid!
Redwood does sound amazing. I first heard it on a Breedlove and was impressed. Taylor of course takes it to a whole new level. Another great video. 🤠🎸
This is truly one of the best sounding guitars I’ve ever heard.
Taylor owes you royalties 😂. Great vid Chris.
Gotta say, I luv the quality of your TH-cam channel in the last year.
It sounds "red ... warm ... like an autumn fire." Nice description!
You get to hear it at 8:50
played a sinker cypress 8string at a road show, best sounding and playing guitar i have ever played...
Great job on the sound quality Chris.it enhanced your wonderful playing and what a guitar wow.
I have 912ce, k14, k24 and a Martin D45 standard. Gotta say I love all of them, but the thing that really bugs me is I wanna add a sinker redwood top to my collection 😪-wife’s gonna kill me

Very fine playing on a beautiful work of craftsmanship. Very warm, lots of character

Hi Chris, would you be able to do a comparison between this special 914ce and the regular 914ce? Thanks
Amazing playing!
"....reddish sound..."!!!??? Oh yeah! I love that reddish sound!!
Nice presentation of a beautiful guitar!
Such a rich sound. Looking for a starter guitar. Wish it could be this one. Sure it is way outside my price range.
Do try the Cort Limited editions
Harley benton guitar is worth checking out
I saw this video and fell in love with this guitar I called today to see if it was in stock and shocker it isn't I want to cry
Sorry to hear that! ):
My God the armrest on that guitar is beautiful
Really nice playing
best sounding 914
Beautiful guitar, I have 814 ce deluxe
Hey! Does anyone know what he played from 9:37 to 11:55...
Please Let Me Know...
Please!
That's an original (:
how is this different from the current 914CE Buiilders Edition?
will print NAMM on the label?
An amazing sounding guitar .
Thanks for the really nice playing
Gorgeous piece of art!!
How similar is this to Engelmann spruce and Lutz spruce?
I wonder how it compares to englemann tops. Seems warmer than Englemann to me.

Adirondack .... You want Adirondack.
That is Taylor's best sounding guitar. Wow.
I played one, and I'm not a pro but it wasn't the best Taylor in the shop to my ear.
Ra0king which one was?
@@slau3242 I like the 514.
It’s only been 2 years - is this still available? :-)
AHHHH it was a close battle between this and the k24ce builder's edition; went with the koa though
Some one please please tell me what he’s playing at 10:50
I wish he would answer your question
Its just a Gmaj to Cmaj progression. Did you want him to send tab or something? I hope that helps a little.

Sweet Jesus. 😍
Beautiful. Too beautiful!!!
Chris, Would you recommend this guitar for someone who mostly fingerstyle
What are y’all’s thoughts on the new 414ce LTD with Sinker Redwood??? Can we get a review?
So beautiful. I almost cried.
Really nice sounding guitar
cool guitar. thanks so much for posting
Well done Sir! Beautiful . New subscriber here👍😊

Awe I'm a year too late just saw this video. How much was it?
Not sure but the standard is $4,999 (:
Taylor should play “Authentic”. They stole from you, Chris.
"Be original, play authentic"
Dream guitar! Just fell in love one day one day
Wowwwww looks beautiful ❤️
It really is!
I want that guitar!!!
Thanks for another wonderful video! Would you mind sharing the approximate price of this beauty
Hey! It is ONLY.....$5999, ;) More photos at the link. We only have two so far that we have been able to get. www.alamomusic.com/taylor-914ce-limited-edition-grand-auditorium-sinker-redwood-rosewood-natural/
Why does this sound better than the 714ce Ltd?
Very informative
Sounds much mellower than a general Taylor
Bet would sound even better with done 80/20 bronze.
Omg I’d love to own one 🙏🏻
Very coffeehouse vibe
Do they come Left handed?
One may be able to be ordered if done asap. It is based on materials available.
You should have plugg in sir
Ahhhhh! Sinker Redwood......AAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! $5,999.00.......
Hi..im your fan from indonesia
Thanks! Appreciate you!
🙏
Excelent
I'll take 3

best.. intro... ever!!! lol
👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽dear Santa 🎅🏻
Awesome, a very very expensive DRIFTWOOD guitar.
I might just buy a guitar made of palettes.
Taylor guitars have no sustain on the 3rd fret (g) of the 6th string. That's the biggest downside. _______**
Are you related to andy mckee
It's awesome...but not $6K awesome.
I've played the 900 series. I'll take my 224ce koa over them any day. Even the playability is not as good in the 900 stuff
Jimmy swag I just picked up my custom satin finish 224ce-k dlx the other day and I love it. I played it next to guitars more than double the cost and I found it to sound much better. Apparently the satin finish is a guitar center exclusive.

Dork
The price? Thousands, an arm, a leg, and your first born child.
Cider is the best
Not impressed with the sound but it's a beautiful piece of wood.
The D 12 e sounds so much better
Thumbs down for monetizing your commercial.
Don't you just love an ad-break in an advert!?

Overpriced box with strings.
You most probably hate guitars :D. Ok buy Banjo ;)
No Taylor bias here, move along. The guy takes 30 min to do 10 min worth of video. My god don’t talk so damn much
I rather like what he has to say. In fact, I like his take on things at least as much as I like the guitars.
