This week on the show, Chris and Dee are talking about Redwood. Chris is playing the new OM cutaway - our FYM74ce (Redwood/Indian rosewood) and Dee is playing the FYM70ce (Sitka/Indian rosewood). At the end of the show, Dee demos all the Yairi OMs. Enjoy!

Love the show…. The way you described Redwood relative to Adirondack really stood out. Please ship more Yairi guitars to Dallas area!! Would love to play them and pick 1-2 out. Even Masterworks are hard to find a bit.

I have the DYM74 and can confirm it is the best new guitar that I've ever played.

General Sherman was from the U.S. Civil War, not the War of Independence.

That was a war for independence, but you're right that we don't normally refer to it as that.

I inherited a Maximillian Lang violin from my Father. It was #36 of 39 that Lang had built over his life time and was the only violin he made with a California Redwood top, she had a Birdseye Maple body and was a beautiful work of art and fantastic sounding instrument. As I found it uncomfortable to play a violin, due to a neck injury, I sold here 3 years ago and was able to purchase two wonderful Boucher guitars with the proceeds [I am sure my Father would approve]. I have often thought of having a custom guitar made with the same wood combination.

You don't know redwoods until you get your hands on figured redwoods that came from sinker redwoods that I bought back in 2014 thru 2016. They look like or simular to maples look to flame or big leaf. If you'd like to see it, I'll send pictures of them. I'm making a single piece of it for a LPaul and extremely light. Most likely problem will be neck dive, that's what I call an unreal problem. No cutting or to light it up by drilling out wood. It's more similar to Basswood in off red. It's easy to cut with and sand. I'm glad that a fellow Luthier turned me on tiiiio this wood. My wife wants me to sell guitars I'm making and I'm making 1 of 4 LPs, 2 tellì, 3 from dreams from guitars and 3 - 5-string basses, a 35", 32" and 45" (I think) for an upright double bass (on a stick)

Great sounding guitar! Great video as always!
As a California native, I give you thumbs up on your knowledge of the 2 different species of Redwoods! One small mistake: the oldest organisms on earth are the 5,000 year old bristlecone pines in the White Mountains of California, located just east the central Sierra Nevada Mts. The giant Sequoias grow on the west slope of the southern Sierras.
Also, one coastal Redwood, “Hyperion”, is nearly 116 meters / 380 feet tall. It is in a remote area of Redwood National Park, but the entire area is closed off to protect it. So, it’s exact location is essentially a secret.
P.S. still enjoying my 8 string GA! Had a gig recently, and played my “12 string” songs on it… sounded nice!

Id love to see a segment on what makes your YAIRI laminate guitars different than other laminate guitars on the market. With most starting at $3000 price point, its hard for me to figure out why yairis are laminate as opposed to solid for that kind of money.

OK. I agree about Redwood. But Yairi/Alvarez has made a recent (within past 10 years) masterpiece in the DYM75. I can't find one for sale. Did you run out of the Cedar?

Cedar is a super softwood, doesn’t need torrefecation. Thats why it dents and scratches so easily. Cedar also moves a lot easier and used for classical guitar, a genre of music that uses a lot of fingerstyle/nails
