Chess gets updated "all the time" though, in 1862 it was decided that when you get your pawn all the way to the other side of the board it could immediately turn into another piece rather than just one of your already lost pieces. And in late 15th century was when one of the pieces that could move like the king was swapped out with the queen which later became able to move any length in any direction. Frankly it's some really slow changes but there are some small updates every hundred years or two

@@mokkaveli That doesn't have a lot to do with this though. There was an entirely different reason behind the switching where people drive on the road. Here it's honestly just common sense to switch to the metric system for the sake of practicality. I'm pretty sure NASA uses it already even though they're American.

I live in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
For its very low population, Finland is actually quite well-known. Probably because of the geographic location and history. Ireland is in the same case, with a rather similar population.
The most impressive of all is how Iceland is known despite having like 300k people lol, the population of a moderate city.

The thing about small countries really is very accurate. As we have a bunch of major European powers around us, Belgium tends to be forgotten. Unless it's about Congo that is and that's not exactly something you want to be remembered for.
Only other stuff people seem to know us for are Brussels (EU and NATO HQ), chocolate, waffles and beer so I guess that's nice, but a bit more recognition would be lovely. XD

Airplane flights are on a curve, because it's supposedly quicker to get to your destination if you go with the curvature of the earth. But for flights from US to Europe (or US to Asia) they want flights to follow land formations, in the event of trouble they have a half decent place to land.
