I would think premeditated would actually be better. Knowing he just snapped and killed someone means that he can lose his temper and get violent again if you get him a little angry.

He does fix the generator, he just goes to the old pool he mentioned to retrieve the pump from it in order to do so. He knew there was no way they'd let him access the pool even if he explained why, hence his "escape".
