You guys have really helped me learn some things that I need to be doing in order to make a living in this space. Thank you so much for your knowledge and advice. Thanks for watching! When you slate, you want to say something like “Hi, I’m Samantha Wilburn, I’m 5’ 6” and I’m based in Chicago, IL. Sometimes they will ask for additional info like for men sometimes they ask if they are willing to shave, or something like that. But a general slate usually only asks for name, height and location. Hope that helps!
I totally agree with you on the beating yourself up part when you watch yourself back. My vocal couch will make me record myself singing then we’ll both watch it back and critique. But I promise you that I can think of a million things wrong with a performance before I can think of one thing I did right. We will always be our own worst critiques! It can be a good thing to help us grow sometimes but we’ll never think we’re good enough if we always find something wrong. Anyways, I thought it was all amazing really and you deserved that role, wish I could’ve seen it! ❤
Do you mean using a microphone for a self-tape audition? If so, yes, we use a shotgun mic, but you don't have to do that. You can just use your phone. Yes, keep the song short unless they say they want an entire song.

I lived in Kenya for 2 years. Africans do not sing with vibrato :)
I lived in the country side (Peace Corps) and taught in a school. The school choir, the singing done in churches, etc., no vibrato.
