I know you've already answered this question in bits and pieces several times in the comments below, but could you please provide a clear ratio of portland : sand : lime and exactly how much water you normally add? Thanks a bunch!
Do you wet the walls before applying the first and second coat of cement? Also, to verify you use 1 part portland cement and 3 parts mason sand. Your original post was made in 2012 and you are still helping people in 2018. Thank you!
Great video. Do any of these steps apply to refractory cement? The stuff i have is apparently kasto-lite, just add water. I would have liked a nicer look than i got, i just lined the inside of my forge, but they always look so rough.
would I have to worry about old if I had this done I'm looking at buying a house with a basement with block wall and windows I know nothing about basements moister and how to keep mold out you did an awesome job
hmm. The guy that did my walls used plywood and would go half way and pour the concrete in it to fill up from the wall to the plywood that cover the entire wall then he'll wait for it to dry then pull the plywood off and do the other half. It looked perfectly straight. How come i'm not seeing anyone do that now? I was going to do a wall by myself but wanted to get directions and haven't seen anyone doing that. Same with my stairs. The last guy used some wood and built fake stairs and just purred cement into it and when it dried he pulled the wood off.
Wow.....sounds like a good idea. I have to repair a cement veneer facing on the side of a concrete patio/landing. The area is about 10 ft long x 2 1/2 ft high. Loading up a properly sized piece of plywood sounds like a way to make the job much easier. I will be nailing wire mesh to the underlying stones to firmly hold the cement in place.
This is the same idea I had to redo my basement walls. Why not make frames and have a cement pumper come in and fill in the reinforced made frames and have it done in a weekend instead of a month. JS
Do you have potential concerns with the compatibility of portland cement with the existing (likely lime) mortar of the field stone and brick foundation?
Austin Wilhite concrete and mortar to different aspects of masonry construction.... mortar for laying brick block and stone her concrete is for sidewalks patios and staircases which has granule rocks in it

Hi I am noticing some of my walls in the basement are not starting to show dirt. How do I repair some of the spots? Do I scrap it? If so, what do I need to do! It just needs patch work in my basement
Your welcome I came across one today in Detroit totally crumbling. I would have to make a separate bid for this. About same size too. I bid to paint this house and wall repairs.
Amazing work, always remember everyone to sponge whenever its dry too , to get all the sand and ect off the wall for a even smoother finish
Big props to these guys, you guys look like you do quality work.
Came here before we start our repair. We have a couple big holes/chipped pieces that need covered. Thanks!
You should use a long flat stick, drag it across the wall to flatten the cement before you use the sponge to touch up the surfaces.

What is the cost for a space of this size?

I apply bonding glue first. You can see this technique in my other videos. Sorry for the late response

+Thaddeus Krasinski Portland cement and bar sand 1:3
What kind of cement do you use? is not mortar right? Also, what do you do for the holes that have a stone with a lot of loose material?
