I'm so glad to have found your channel! So informative and inspiring. Thank you so much for sharing. I had a bunch of this stuff growing around on my land couldn't figure out how my corn got planted over 100 ft away.lol I dont have an aphid problem with them, but I do spider mites.uugh. we had parasitic wasps who took care of the aphids early on this spring. It was amazing to see such a tiny wasp going thru picking out aphids and then laying her eggs in each one. The yellow jackets on the other hand are not actually eating your aphids, as they can't eat insects. They were collecting up and eating the honey dew just like the ants will do with the aphids. Their larvae are carnivorous, and they will collect insects to take to their larvae which in turn the larvae will provide them some nourishment by regurgitating a high protein "honey dew" for the wasps to eat. I'm terrible at explaining and dont know all the technical terms . But it's pretty interesting as all my life when I would see wasps taking off with a fly or caterpillars I always thought they ate them. Especially when I would see them chewing bits off etc. But they're just either downsizing to be able to fly better. Or they're taking parts they prefer or they know have the most nutrients to feed their little sisters. I forgot to add they dont usually bother with anything as small as aphids as prey to take and feed their larvae. So it's more likely she was just getting a snack while out searching for bigger prey or nesting materials.

Wonderful!! Do you make brooms with it? I no longer live in CA and have MUCH more room to grow stuff. I have not grown broom corn here but would love to. Say, do you think it's too late to grow some this year? And will it just bring birds up into my garden?

Hi! I'm glad to find broom growers here on you tube! I wanted something to look really different and help out our birds and found broom corn online and then found Amish rainbow seeds just like yours at a nursery and its so fun waiting for the late blooming!!! Our family pet is suffering from frequent seizures and outside a lot wandering around after a bout and I did not want for the world to see because even for me it is traumatizing to witness, so, being on a corner lot a lot of privacy was needed to shield the children from the sight and along those lines of thinking, the yard has taken a whimsical spooky theme year round to kinda keep the kids out of the no man's land woodsy dark corner. I hope the broom corn keeps this spooky witchy look going and couldn't find any images to look forward to in till you! Thank you! I have to add that it was also my pick because it is drought tolerant and we have to pay for city water even tho we are on the edge of society, lol, w a farm n fields forever starting with our neighbors just across the street from us. I also have love lies bleeding alternating in between broom corn and hoping for even more weird different things to look at that will also treat birds! Next, before much longer, we are adding a short black lattice fence for definition and to hide the crazy cheap dollar tree buckets I planted each in because I really didn't know what to do, my first year deciding. I have forty broom corns and 50 love lies bleeding, sunflowers and Mexican sunflowers too. And they're almost too in a circle like a crazy witch would do, but I love knowing they're as wholesome as one could get with the Amish word in the name title!!! I also arranged feeding the cute little songbirds and my other feathered friends this way far from our guests parking and our driveway on purpose because, lol, I have some very particular vehicle owners here not so interested in mother nature, tho as I seem to be addressing their concerns they seem to be getting more into it ;) I even gave a packet of seeds among other things to a good friend who was having a traditional handfasting wedding which really left her speechless, lol! take care, I'll try n look u up n see what you're doing now n subscribe. thanks again for the inspiration!

really nice catch with the yellow jacket, that's a hard shot for a squirrelly amateur to get. Most people run from bees. Thanks as always Kaye, your a garden favorite of mine. You should really try sorghum if you like broom corn, it is a great grain, and you can press the canes to make molasses. I have a 10' Sorghum im growing for seed.

I just put Texas Black on my wishlist for next year. It would look interesting in Pittsburgh with gold. Black n Gold is THE religion around here, but I’m not into football. I think it is a dangerous sport. My mom n daughter enjoy watching it. They’re both avid fans of the sport. Planning a garden is exciting. I did not get an even stand of Millet. I will consult Mechanical Transplanter Co. as to how I can improve.
