Outside of Kyrie and Klay, the team is genuinely pretty young and I think hopefully after they win a chip or two, I think they'll trade both Kyrie and Klay
They probably took a step backwards with the Klay signing. I feel like it’s one of those old Mavs name value signings that won’t work unless he magically doesn’t have injured knees and is a better perimeter defender like he was before Game 6 of the 2019 Finals when he got hurt.
The Rebuild didnt start good. The Dallas KP trade to go all in came WAY to soon in my opinion. They shoudlve waited at least till the Summer before making a big move. On paper a 23 year old stretch big who is also a brilliant roll man and rim protector is the perfect partner for Luka! But trading for a 7'3 guy who tore his MCL not one year ago and hasnt played a game since... and then for that price? WAY to much! Btw, we still payed the last piece of that deal this June. Means our 2024 pick went to New York and everything concerning this trade is finally behind us. That being said, one thing became very clear to me. The problem was never really the Front Office, it was the Influence Cuban had and used. Cuban (and his betting Guru) wanted Green in the 2020 draft, Donnie wanted Bane. Just saying... The Brunson debacle was another big problem. He was willing to sign a 55/4 extension in the summer of 2021 and noone even talked to him, cause Cuban wasnt willing to pay him! Then AFTER he became a starter he asked for the same extension AGAIN in January of 2021. And after they still didnt pay him, and even actively tryed to trade him for a star... THATS when he made his decision to leave Dallas. And rightfully so by the way! Coming from a Dallas fan. You can clearly see when Cuban started the talks with the new owners early in 2023... cause thats when his influence stopped! The Kyrie Trade was the first decision he wasnt actively involved in. Yes he agreed to the trade, but he didnt negotiate it like he has done in the past. The Bertans+10 for Lively trade, the trade exception for Holmes+24th pick, the Williams signing, then the Williams and Holmes for Gafford/Washington trades during the season... Cuban stayed completely out of it, cause he already knew he wouldnt be the owner anymore. Isnt it strange that basically everything that happened before early 2023 didnt work, but after that they only missed on Williams? And then flipped him immediately for a better piece just half a year after signing him. Something like that would've never happened under Cuban before. Cause then he would have to admit he made a mistake. Overall this team is in a really great place now for the next view years. Yes, Thompson is a bit old, but still provides exactly what we need. And I think you guys undervalue Marshall and Grimes, or overvalue Jones Jr. What did DJJ do before coming to Dallas? I think Marshall and specially Grimes have already shown more then Jones Jr ever did before 2023/24. And now they will have all the space in the world playing next to Luka and Kyrie. This team is very deep (I would say up to 12 deep if needed) and way younger then people think. Luka/Washington/Gafford/Grimes/Hardy/Lively are all 25 and younger... Add O-Max as a good 3&D talent (lets see if he can be more then a talent) and 26 years old Marshall on a long term deal entering his prime and I feel pretty good about this roster. So this team isnt just built for now, they are prepared for the future as well.
I wouldn't say they did great without hitches. Letting Brunson walk, intentioned tanking on the last game, Grant Williams signing depleted their draft capital for short-term gains. Hard to fault when Luka's on the team that needs to win now/soon. They however did a remarkable job making up those mistakes with Lively, vet min pickups and last year's mid-season acquisitions.
Even Dirk wasn’t normal, dude played 20 seasons and scored over 30k points. With the exception of his very last season he kept up his efficiency, he was always a 20/10 guy based on per 36 and we forget he averaged 20 plus as an allstar at 35, was an allstar again next year at 36, and again at 40. So he played great deep into his 30s like Steph and KD are now. Nobody is or ever will be like Lebron.
The people that thought Luka sucked coming into the league were the people that didn’t do their homework & watch him in the Euro League. Luka was a champion & MVP in Euroleague at 17 years old.
I've wanted to see Luka Doncic win a championship since I saw game 4 of the Mavericks vs Clippers round 1 playoffs in 2020, and it's for that reason why I'm still not 100% sure about the Klay signing. It's easy to tell that Luka, Kyrie and Klay aren't the best defenders in the league and it can be argued that the Celtics beat them in the finals last season because the Celtics are just a deeper defensive team overall. So, having three defensive liabilities in the starting lineup doesn't appease me for the Mavericks this upcoming season, but hopefully their collective defense is in a high spot by the time the playoffs start.
Not enough credit and importance given to GM Nico Harrison with Mark Cuban handing the reigns over to someone capable at constructing a roster. Turning that tanking 10th pick into the assets they received, while trading away and cutting ties with failed experiments in a timely manner while bringing back undervalued players in huge positions of need addressed Mavericks FO weaknesses that plagued Dirk throughout the entire career. Luka could have had the rosters that Dirk had but Nico was the change that seems to be getting them over the hump
They specifically did a great job LAST year adding Washington and Gafford and Lively in the draft. But before that I wouldnt say they particularly did a good job.
I think the Mavericks could've made the finals again in 2012 had Mark Cuban not traded Tyson Chandler to the Knicks. The fact that he won DPOY for the Knicks that year tells me that the Mavericks probably could've made it past OKC and maybe even gotten two games off of the Heat had Chandler not been traded.
Last year’s finals showed that Luka needs his team to consistently show up in the postseason and hopefully Luka with Kyrie can win a title so Luka can stay
kristaps wants to be the main star in dallas but he was never healthy and was sent to boston where he doesnt have much of a choice but to be a role. hes lucky to win a ring with them.
Mavs don't deserve credit at all Luka is just a generational carry. I love how everyone flipped because they made one finals. They squandered Brunson and then shamelessly tanked when they could have easily made the playoffs and lucked into Lively. Good pick but lucky because the Mavs weren't trying to be bad until the end. Kyrie blew up the Nets and lowered his value and Mavs lucked into him as well, not to mention he's usually not this healthy or well behaved. PJ Washington and Gafford were great moves, but the Mavs have mainly surrounded Luka with mediocre teams and have just gotten lucky, but Luka winning and Kidd turning into decent coach is saving the Mavs from criticism
@@MickHaleI gotta say what a good job the Mavs front office did when they built one good team for Luka since he was drafted? Ya'll are way too reactionary, literally just flip floppers off recency bias. Not a year ago people were flaming the Mavs FO
The 2022 team was pretty good, but you're right in the abstract for sure. I blame Cuban, he was way too involved in the front office. 2024 was really the first full year without him as head of basketball operations.
It’s cuz of Luka that EVERYONE knows if DJJ now. It’s known around the league that if you’re a mediocre wing, go play with Luka cuz he’ll get you paid (Dorian Finney Smith). You can bet that DJJ will revert back to who he was the 7 years prior.
@@Joeshiesty286 Thank you. It's not about DJJ, it's about Luka. He makes every player look better than they actually are. DJJ had the best season of his entire career in Dallas. Most points, highest 3p%, most dunks, most everything around the board. And it's all because he had the privilege to play with Luka. Look where DFS is right now. He was one of the most important pieces in Mavs squad and now he is a bench player on one of the worst teams in the league. Spence had the best season of his career in Dallas then fell back to mediocre when he left. Luka even made Powell a starting center for 4-5 years when we all know he would be the 3 option at best on any PI team in the league. Even Kai played the most games in a season because he was playing next to Luka and enjoyed playing with him and not concentrating on all the other 💩 surrounding him. And as good as DLive is, he wouldn't have this kind of breakthrough rookie season if Luka wasn't spoonfeeding him those ally ops the entire season. That made him more confident and made him a better two way big than he would be on any other team. It all starts and ends with Luka in Dallas.
Lol i love the video buttttt my one thing is the car analogy (as a car lover) for status ofc vette vs lambo is easy but for performance (depending on model) is waaaay closer than you think. Also ik ik 🤓🤓🤓
As a LeBron fan I should hold some hate for Mavs and Dirk but i literally can’t the Mavs are one of my favorite organizations and Dirk and Luka are in my top 5 favorite players all time. They just have that aura
I still think Klay is a better piece than Jones Jr., considering he is not the best defender between the two at this point, but the value he adds in offense field is just much greater. Not a guy just for alley oops and inconsistent no guard 3 pt shot
As long as Klay produces 15 ppg on his average efficiency, as long as Marshal and Grimes can be as locked in on d as DJJ and Josh Green, as long as DLive and Gaff can keep splitting minutes and dominating the paint, mavs got this
Imo Luka just showed that it's kinda random if a European player play style will translate to the NBA. They were so many players better than Luka, Wemby in Euroleage but their game didn't translate.
I think the difference is what age those players reached those levels. Luka may not have been the best ever player coming out of the Euroleague, but look at all his accolades at 18... how good were those other guys at that age?
@@bradygust Yeah and that's why he was drafted. My point is that Luka was a 9/10 Euroleage player that in his rookie season was a 8/10 NBA player. But they were so many players as good as Luka (when he was young) that went at the NBA and they were 3/10 NBA players.
There was no player better than Luka in the Euroleague at his age. Wembi who? Luka was the MVP of the league and MVP of the final4 when he left Europe. He also won a national title before coming to NBA. Wembi wasn't sniffing those achievements by a mile. Just like no other player was at that age.
@@swhoshing6237 At his age no. But that's not the point. Luka was instantly able to translate his 15/4/5 to a 21/7/6. Venzekov (for example) was more dominant than Luka in Europe (18/8/3) while he was way worse than rookie Luka (5/2/1). And Wemby is a really weird case so I will stick with Luka for now.
Grimes serves as Green’s replacement while Klay will serve as Tim’s replacement. Tim was only traded for Grimes to create more room for sign Klay, Naji and Dinwiidie, and because he was horrible on both offense and defense so they needed to get rid of him, and traded him for a better defender and shooter in Grimes but it wouldn’t act as his replacement since it wasn’t the only move they would make at the time.
"didnt have a big impact" my brother in Christ the only person still on the Suns from that Game 7 is Devin Booker and its only been 2 seasons since it happened. It literally destroyed the team.
Hot Take, but i don't think they've done a "great" job rebuilding around luka at all. I think luka is THAT good that it seems like Dallas is a great team, when they're only a good team. Luka still hasn't had a top 3 seed in the playoffs yet & he's 6 years in already. That's on management.
If it wasn’t for that porzingis trade and we kept all our assets I think we would’ve one at least one chip by now. shits so frustrating. good riddance Donnie Nelson

So this team isnt just built for now, they are prepared for the future as well.
he was never healthy and he wants to be the main star or wants more touches. he wasnt even consistent they couldnt coexist well unlike irving and luka
Luka will definitely win his first ring with the Mavericks before all is said and done.
He very well could.
18:54 did I just see Trainwrecks??😂
I wouldn't say they did great without hitches. Letting Brunson walk, intentioned tanking on the last game, Grant Williams signing depleted their draft capital for short-term gains. Hard to fault when Luka's on the team that needs to win now/soon.
They however did a remarkable job making up those mistakes with Lively, vet min pickups and last year's mid-season acquisitions.
Ive been watching you guys since a few months back since im getting back into the NBA, i love you guys’s energy so much!!!! Fjfnfnf
5:45 Dames face after that line “Get Fcked Dallas”😂😂😂
Ima need a 1 hour documentary of derrick rose next video
The problem is that they have taken way too much time to rebuild properly... So thank you Nico, by the way.
Nobody is or ever will be like Lebron.
omg first 48 seconds is wild
What's so.wild about it? They did a normal ass intro.
So, having three defensive liabilities in the starting lineup doesn't appease me for the Mavericks this upcoming season, but hopefully their collective defense is in a high spot by the time the playoffs start.
hated when dirk retired hes my goat
Not enough credit and importance given to GM Nico Harrison with Mark Cuban handing the reigns over to someone capable at constructing a roster. Turning that tanking 10th pick into the assets they received, while trading away and cutting ties with failed experiments in a timely manner while bringing back undervalued players in huge positions of need addressed Mavericks FO weaknesses that plagued Dirk throughout the entire career. Luka could have had the rosters that Dirk had but Nico was the change that seems to be getting them over the hump
Y’all gotta make a retrospective on drose since he retired
They specifically did a great job LAST year adding Washington and Gafford and Lively in the draft. But before that I wouldnt say they particularly did a good job.
They've been rebuilding WITH Dirk since 2016.
They never needed to draft Luka. They had the next Dirk in Maxi Kleber👍
Mavs defense underrated once again.
Clutch vid dam
I think the Mavericks could've made the finals again in 2012 had Mark Cuban not traded Tyson Chandler to the Knicks. The fact that he won DPOY for the Knicks that year tells me that the Mavericks probably could've made it past OKC and maybe even gotten two games off of the Heat had Chandler not been traded.
Last year’s finals showed that Luka needs his team to consistently show up in the postseason and hopefully Luka with Kyrie can win a title so Luka can stay
Its crazy how people glaze the front office now after theyve been so critical the past few years.
kristaps wants to be the main star in dallas but he was never healthy and was sent to boston where he doesnt have much of a choice but to be a role. hes lucky to win a ring with them.
7:49. Ya'll forgot Timmy D.
Everyone actin tough when they up
they should have kept porzingis
Keep getting injured because he couldn’t stay healthy on The Mavs. We don’t need someone like that anyway
Hell nah
If anything they should've kept Brunson, but the way Nico Harrison build this roster after that is just absolutely amazing.
My friends were giving me so much shit for saying I thought luka was the best player in the draft
As a lakers fan same boat Portland
That made zero sense but tbh I feel like the team you’re a fan of is playing into this…..
Salty 😂
@@MickHaleI gotta say what a good job the Mavs front office did when they built one good team for Luka since he was drafted? Ya'll are way too reactionary, literally just flip floppers off recency bias. Not a year ago people were flaming the Mavs FO
About what lol
The 2022 team was pretty good, but you're right in the abstract for sure. I blame Cuban, he was way too involved in the front office. 2024 was really the first full year without him as head of basketball operations.
Derrick Jones Jr deserves more attention, such a key piece for how they were playing, we'll see how they do without him, hopefully it works out
It’s cuz of Luka that EVERYONE knows if DJJ now. It’s known around the league that if you’re a mediocre wing, go play with Luka cuz he’ll get you paid (Dorian Finney Smith). You can bet that DJJ will revert back to who he was the 7 years prior.
@@Joeshiesty286
Thank you.
They are never getting this far again
Keep doubting. It’s only gonna boost the Mavs to strive to win more games and get back to where they were
Lol i love the video buttttt my one thing is the car analogy (as a car lover) for status ofc vette vs lambo is easy but for performance (depending on model) is waaaay closer than you think. Also ik ik 🤓🤓🤓
Is there 2 people or is bro talking to him himself
As a LeBron fan I should hold some hate for Mavs and Dirk but i literally can’t the Mavs are one of my favorite organizations and Dirk and Luka are in my top 5 favorite players all time. They just have that aura
Take notes, Warriors
I still think Klay is a better piece than Jones Jr., considering he is not the best defender between the two at this point, but the value he adds in offense field is just much greater. Not a guy just for alley oops and inconsistent no guard 3 pt shot
But Klay doesn’t replace DJJ. Naji will. Klay actually will replace THJ in rotation
I genuinely hate the brunson hindsight talk like everybody not saying Knicks overpaying brunson when he go to NY
would y’all be down to make a video about y’all fav game 7s?
Dirk Uber alles!!
MAVS MAVS MAVS we heading back to the finals
As long as Klay produces 15 ppg on his average efficiency, as long as Marshal and Grimes can be as locked in on d as DJJ and Josh Green, as long as DLive and Gaff can keep splitting minutes and dominating the paint, mavs got this
Do a bucks rebuild or Brandon Jennings retrospective
It's all about gm nico, gm nelson didn't do nothin but get lucky with drafting luka and brunson at the same draft.
Best video ever RAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHH
7:51 TIM DUNCAN
Bruh I didn't even know or remember Amare Stoudemire played for the mavs lmaooo
Why u gotta put my seahawks as an example 😭😭 bruh that shii still stings literally 1 yard away 😭🤦🏽♂️
@@bradygust My point is that
Lukas 15/4/5 in the Euroleage was a
21/7/6 in the NBA
While... idk Venzekov 18/8/3 was a
5/2/1 in the NBA
Did you guys just forget about Tim Duncan???
Willie caully stein actually said he was in rehab and was addicted to some sort of drug when the bubble started
Grimes was sent to the mavs for Tim not Josh
2015 mavs could’ve been a top 4 seed if they didn’t trade for rondo
Hot Take, but i don't think they've done a "great" job rebuilding around luka at all. I think luka is THAT good that it seems like Dallas is a great team, when they're only a good team. Luka still hasn't had a top 3 seed in the playoffs yet & he's 6 years in already. That's on management.
You guys forget what Duncan did for SA? They were a joke until he arrived lol. Dudes always forgotten
I dont wanna give the Mavs too much credit they took advantage of the hawks stupidity 😂
Rosamond Stravenue
If it wasn’t for that porzingis trade and we kept all our assets I think we would’ve one at least one chip by now. shits so frustrating. good riddance Donnie Nelson
