Cead Mile Failte my friend. Gallic is still spoken in the part of the province we are originally from, Cape Breton Island. The language and music is sacred there.
Awesome coming-together of genius across the big Atlantic pond, like they played together all their lives. In a way, they did. Thanks for posting, McVity. I know the tune but this version is an instant favorite for me too.
My Faither Jim McTrucks would love that, The Chieftains and Ry Cooder, but he is in in a wee toon called JACKSONVILLE USA and I wish he could be with us at "CELTIC CONNECTIONS 2010"
This would make the perfect first dance for a bride and groom at the reception with a traditional palm to palm, encircling with their eyes in each other's gaze while the guests looked on. So powerful and it builds to a gentle but powerful crescendo. A promise.
@Mcvity Yeah man, I, as a Dutchy from te clay grounds totally agree with you. To bad those bloody Romans nearly routed out every Celtic feeling everywhere. But thankfullly the feeling still remains, and Ry Cooder is proof of that.
@LipsOfAshes Well there is actually a reference to 'Black Irish' that is attributable to Iberian influences from a number of possible sources. The one possible (but least likely source) has to do with survivors from the Spanish Armada washing up on the shores of Ireland after their fleeet was destroyed. The Irish not exactly loving the English were surely not eager to turn them in.
@LipsOfAshes Gallacia in Spain is Celtic and there's a guy named named Carlos Nunez that the Cheiftans often tour with from their and they did an Album called Santiago
;) the mistake is in the opening titles i spelt it Rye instead of Ry, and yes the video clip of the chieftains with the Irish dancers doesn't fit the music, merely eye candy ;) hehe peace :)
Greetings from the heartland of Celtic music in North America, Nova Scotia. This song is so fascinating.
wayne moores Greetings from SouthEast Ireland, An bfhuil tu go maith mo chara?

Excellent, always touches me, makes me feel proud or something.
Ry played with everybody.
If Mars had a musical community, Ry would have found a way to get their and jam with the Martians.
Awesome!!!

Ry is short for Ryland, but it probably does derive from a field of Rye...LOL
Also..: Wry Cooder (in other pieces...)
