  • I picked this F250 up on a police rotation, after it was involved in a multi vehicle crash, and went off the roadway into the ditch.

    This kid needs alot more experience ,been in business 36 years and this is a rookie I hope cause if he isn't time to find new career,this was a simple simple hook and book,should've just drove it to shoulder🤔or at least tried or pulled it from front ,not all this backwards drama ,it had tow hook sticking out of front bumper .

      Is there more than one way to do something? Most definitely.
      Was the job done safely, with a happy customer? Yep.
      Sounds like a job well done to me.

      @@Towtruck_Dustin Did you waste customers and highway patrols time ?and do unnecessary work to make it look complicated?yes you did,time is money to the company owner and everyone else on scene🤔safety and efficiency go hand in hand ,you oughta try it.

    • @Towtruck_Dustin
      @Towtruck_Dustin  ปีที่แล้ว +8

      The customer chose to hang around. He was free to go at any time. So I didn’t waste his time.
      Didn’t waste the troopers time either seeing as the other wrecker didn’t show up until I was already finishing up anyway.
      The beauty of this line of work, is there are multiple ways to do everything. The only wrong way is the way that gets someone hurt, or causes damage. If I have to take a little extra time to avoid hurting something, or someone, I’ll gladly do so. Any owner, be it of the company or of the vehicle, will appreciate that.
      So I appreciate your insight, but we’ll have to agree to disagree on this one I reckon.

    Why not just pull ahead of it and pull it straight onto the truck.

    • @Towtruck_Dustin
      @Towtruck_Dustin  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Because that would have required driving my 20,000lb 2 wheel drive truck through a wet, muddy ditch, which would mean I would get stuck in the middle of an accident scene.
      The customer didn’t want to risk starting it initially and driving it back, so I had to winch it out.

    Definitely sounds like a young kid but you got to start learning somehow and the only way to learn is by doing it, 18 years doing it myself and also military on and off road. This is not something you can learn in a classroom but at least taking his time to think about stuff is a good start

    To save a Title do not allow them to Total the Vehicle and you can rebuild it and reinsure if sometimes for more the next time. That is how I but Classic Cars. I always contact the Insurance Companies and buy from them direct and not get a Salvage Title, I get the regular Title and buy the car at the value the Insurance Company will sell it as a refurbishable vehicle.

    How does the PD choose which tow trucks to use? Does every towing business throw bids for yearly contracts or does the PD just call any company there's an accident?

    • @Towtruck_Dustin
      @Towtruck_Dustin  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      There is a list of all the wreckers they have on rotation. And it goes in a loop in alphabetical order. every year you have to pay a small fee, depending on how many trucks and impound yards you register.

    you need more cable on your winch

    • @Towtruck_Dustin
      @Towtruck_Dustin  ปีที่แล้ว

      You don’t want a lot of cable on a rollback. You lessen the pulling power the more line you have on your spool. Which means when you’re loading something heavy, and you have all your line in, you have way less pulling power.

    Nice job! What length cable do you have on that truck standard 50’? Also have you thought about using an 8 point tie down strap kit? I loved using them when I operated a rollback. How long have you been towing?

    • @Towtruck_Dustin
      @Towtruck_Dustin  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yeah, 50’. But I have a bunch of extra rigging, including an 80’ synthetic extension

    • @Towtruck_Dustin
      @Towtruck_Dustin  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Also, I do have 8 points on the truck, but I don’t use them unless it’s a high end vehicle or something with custom wheels.
      Been towing for going 2 years now, but did off-road recovery semi-professionally for 7-8 years prior.

    • @TowMan127
      @TowMan127 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Towtruck_Dustin nice! I always had extra chains and straps in my rollback cause ya never know when ya need it. I have a bunch of straps on my wrecker now and I also have a 50 foot extension cable.

      @TowMan127 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Towtruck_Dustin off road recovery seems fun man! 2 year, good for you. I used to use chains on everything and my 8 point for high end vehicles then I started using the 8 points for everything 😂 I found them to be quick and easy and didn’t have to put my head under any vehicles to find tiedown locations. Only time I didn’t use them was on really heavy vehicles.

    Great work how long does it usually take for recovery jobs and what's the recovery tool you used called the yellow one you put the line threw

    • @Towtruck_Dustin
      @Towtruck_Dustin  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The time varies depending on how far out they are, if they’re actually stuck or if I just can’t get the truck to them, the grade, so many factors.
      I’ve been on recoveries that took minutes, or hours. No two are the same.
      That “yellow thing” is a Side Puller from Zips.
