  • Rod and Staff's "Bible Nurture and Readers Series" (Grades 1-4) is unique in that it imparts Bible knowledge in the teaching process, thus fulfilling God's command (Eph. 6:4). Your child will be reading biblical truth instead of just "fun stuff." It is important that every child learn to read, but more important that he develop a desire for profitable reading rather than just entertainment. In this course the child is reading to learn, not just learning to read. Every child needs to develop an appetite for serious reading at an early age. The biblical content of the reading material is what sets this program apart from the rest.

    Hi I just bought the reading program but just the books and workbook how you show on video. I noticed in teachers manual there was pages missing. So I found out it’s the worksheets and blank lines you buy separate. Do you use these ? Or just what you show on video ? He’s in first grade . Thank you

      Julie Montes I just used what I showed in the video. The other stuff is optional. I like to keep things simple for 1st grade. Learning to read and do the workbooks for reading comprehension is enough. 😊

    The 3rd grade R&S reader will stump a 3rd grader from public school.

    What are you planning on doing for 11th and 12th grade? Since they stop at 10th grade?

    • @HeatherHuerta

      Michelle Munoz ....actually, I'm stopping with 8th grade. I did a video on planning for high school!

    Are there denominational things in here that we may need to be aware of before jumping in

    • @HeatherHuerta
      @HeatherHuerta  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Rod 'n' Staff is made by Mennonites. But they are really good at simplicity, to the point, and the Bible. I go to a non-denominational church, but I still love these books because of the simplicity and how the kids learn to read actual stories from the Bible.

    Is a teacher's manual necessary for R&D 1st grade Reading?

    • @HeatherHuerta
      @HeatherHuerta  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The teacher manual has discussion topics, tips to help your child, and the answer key to the workbook that goes with the reader. Since it's 1st grade, it's simple and not really that necessary to have the teacher manual, but it does help. I'd recommend getting it for the 2nd grade for sure.

    does the 1st grade curriculum teach the child to read??

    • @HeatherHuerta
      @HeatherHuerta  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes. They have the phonics workbooks that you can do along with the reading workbooks. The reading workbooks just go over what they have read in the readers, reading comprehension, vocab meanings, etc. The phonics help with all the sounding out and learning to read.
      We used the phonics workbooks with our first 2 kids, but we don't use them now because (for us) it's just too much seatwork for wiggly learners.
      Our kids have way more fun learning to read using Happy Phonics (I did a review on that, too) because it's simple and has games to learn. But we do the Rod 'n' Staff readers + workbooks because we love the Bible stories, great practice reading, and learning words. Like the "base" for language arts. The Happy Phonics + Bob Books are for just learning to read.

      Hi, I just got my first grade reading. I only bought the workbooks and teacher manual and the readers. Did you use the extra worksheets and blanklines they sale ?

    • @HeatherHuerta
      @HeatherHuerta  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      No, I did not need them when I bought them for my first kid, so for the next kids, I just stuck to the readers and workbooks. ;)
