Your channel has quickly become one of my absolute favorites. I have gotten so many ideas from your homeschooled dupes series. Thanks a lot for sharing!

I just love your channel. I definitely use nonconsumables as much as possible. We used a small inheritance to purchase all of Rod and Staff Math, English, Spelling, Science, and Social Studies and Apologia Science texts. It was the best investment and all of my children love their books. We are using folders with 3 prongs for each of their subjects and each child's folders are in their color and put in a simple magazine rack on the top of the bookshelf that holds my textbooks. I love the simplicity.

I have learned finally, simple is always better! :)

I have a few different writing handbooks I was already planning on using.. We'll see how they work. Writers, Inc and Techniques for writing... My brother was given these in a private school in the '80s.

I love your intro. I am going to be doing a Robinson/Traditional style homeschool this fall. I am combining The Good and the Beautiful 2 days a week for my younger kids reading lessons-as I feel that is the focus of the program with Rod and Staff English 3 days a week. All children will be doing Rod and Staff Math, English, and Spelling. My "middles" will also be doing Rod and Staff Science and Social Studies in alternate semesters. My youngest is doing TGatB prek with Rod and Staff preschool workbooks, and Explode the Code primers. I am adding daily copywork for 9 and under and TGatB Creative Writing workbook for my "middles".

I will do preschool readalouds/ tutoring during my older kids required reading hour- they will do the assigned History or Science text followed by literature until the hour is up. Then we will do Math/English/Spelling 2 hour period and I will rotate tutoring each of my middle 4 children for 1/2 an hour each in whatever they personally need or to read aloud to me. The last half hour is writing-copywork or creative writing first semester with more dictation and essay writing second semester- This is totally independent. This allows us to be done by 12:30 for lunch most days. They have over an hour to read on their Kindles or do craft stuff independently during afternoon quiettime, but I am not teaching after noon-unless my HSer needs me for Math or writing-this is done after quiettime during his freetime-thus encouraging him to figure things out-kwim-lol. This allows me to mother my children better. We also do family devotions and a chapter book each night before bed.

I hear ya, I am shuffeling some things around right now too, I want time to swim in the pool every day. Here in Phoenix it is the best exercise for me, lol.

Our House I hope that you get to swim a lot! We walk daily, and I do Classical Stretch a few times a week as well- it really makes you feel better getting in exercise daily.

Can you go in depth on this again. Have you ever used the workbook? Do you have any suggested companions to go along with this book? I feel like I need more guidance with writing. I've thought about stuff like writers in residence or writeshop. I saw this elements of style book and thought this with a few resources might be all I need. one of the above curriculums I mentioned goes over Internet, sources, verifying sources and note taking too so I thought that might be helpful. But I'm looking for one book to go through all of writing through all levels and broken up into reasonable teaching sections or lessons at a time. I can't do writing books or curriculum every year for this for each child. I just need good resources I can walk them through and build in skills regularly. Writing is not my strong subject and I feel lost without some lessons or something to guide us.

I don't use any of those resources or anything formal really. The best writing program that truly removed the fear of writing is the Dr. Lybrand course. I highly recommend it! bit.ly/2vJPM0x

Are you still planning on using Life of Fred, or are you moving on now that your kiddos are getting bigger? I was thinking of using it as a supplement for elementary lessons until my son reaches the 54 level of Saxon math... or do you recommend just using rays for the primary ages now? I already have Saxon math 54 and up and plan to use that; however, Rays looks awesome too! I'm just wanting to use something for this primary time, my oldest will be 6. Just curious... thank you. Random note on a writing video, I was just looking over your blog post for this coming year.

So after re-watching the Robinson Talk youtube videos, I decided to really give it another shot all the way including Saxon again (wish me luck, ha! Maybe we needed those extra years). I found some second editions super cheap on ebay to try and have my eye on the Ray's full set too to compare which would be a better fit for us.The RC online membership I heard has some kind of lessons plans or support on how to use Ray's. I am having a hard time letting go of Fred lol, I'm thinking how I might still incorporate it. For littles I personally like Ray's Primary Math and Everyday Number Stories (I posted Number Stories on my free homeschool resources tab). It's such a solid foundation covering all the bases. I'm also going to print the math flashcards and after I do a lesson with them, let them go through them on their own since it has the answers on the back, they can then place them in right or wrong piles. Hopefully I will make a video soon how that all works out.

T Michelle yes, I am starting a Robinson's series next week! I am really excited about our reboot.

Our House thank you for getting back to me I really appreciate it! Do you find that LOF helps the kiddos "get" what they are learning? I got a great deal on a set, but I'm wondering if I should use them at all. Or maybe just resell them. On another note: do you guys do classical conversations memory work at home? I thought to incorporate that for family learning, kind of a great way to bring us all together since in the long run Robinson's is mostly solo. I like the idea so far, but I'm not sure. Thank you for your input. I'll send you an email when I get a chance... that way I don't fill up these threads... 😊

Wow. I feel awful. My children are 10 and 15 and don't write or read at all really. Very little.
