The fact that they have second hand store in the mall spoke volume to me😮💨 North America could never 😓 and their thrift stores look so fancy and organized wow!!! Love the vlog!! So many beautiful things and places💗I knew Finland was cute but not THAT cute😳💗
Yes, yes yes! You truly got to spend time in my "sielunmaisema": the sea, the rocks, the wind. The Finnish archipelago is just magical, I will never get tired of it. Even though I just spent time in a similar landscape yesterday, just seeing the sea in your video got me yearning for it, and a little misty in the eyes (I just cut some jalapenos, but it's not it, haha!) I highly recommend walking barefoot on those rocks. It's good for your posture and so very _grounding._ The warm, silky rocks under your feet, nothing quite like it. I'm glad you enjoyed Helsinki! Welcome back anytime!
Yes, I have an obsession of scouring foreign grocery stores! I also love to buy foreign bar soap (many bars😂) from these stores! Crazy! Love your travel vlogs💕
Some day when you're in Helsinki you should also visit Porvoo! It's an 1h bus ride from Helsinki so a great day trip destination. Porvoo is the second oldest town in Finland and has a super nice old town :D Oh and soul landscape is "sielunmaisema" in Finnish
I love your channel and recently the travel guides las well! This one was so special for me. I am a Finn, but live in Canada now. Made me so homesick 😭 yet really appreciate where I grew up, amongst the nature. I miss the silence 🙏 What a lovely tribute to Finland. Thank you Gitte 🙏💞
I did a study abroad program in Helsinki (it will always be a second home to me, I miss it and socialized healthcare now that I'm back home in the U.S.) There was a university cafe that carried Pure Waste items and I got a University of Helsinki t-shirt there... the shop was also run by someone who is from just a few miles from my home in the Philadelphia area, which was pretty wild! I also lost a suitcase while there on an Air Berlin flight, though after over 5 years I don't think I'm getting that back. HA, oh well. I visited my first plant-based restaurants while there, thanks for sharing some other cool places to check out!!
Very feel good video. I'm in Helsinki right now and enjoying it and I appreciate all the vegan ideas! Loved watching this, glad you had such a wonderful time here, it's a special place for sure. Copenhagen is also one of a kind!
Beautiful video! 😍 Thanks for sharing your experience here in Helsinki (and for your updated guide for restaurants and cafés, I used it twice already). We all need more commentary by Jens! Love you guys 💚
Finland looks heavenly! I envy your trip so much and will definitely visit Helsinki sometime in the future. Thanks for sharing yet another amazing video❤
Honestly in love with this vlog. I would def make a stop in the future to Helsinki. I love how they took care of you and made it convenient to travel more sustainably. It doesn't have to be hard and all countries should promote this! Like you CAN have MANY eco-friendly options while traveling. you don't always have to compromise. 10/10 just for seeing this beautiful couple so happy
Just heard of the "drink at home in underwear" on Twitter. Finnish tourism office just made an emoji. A finn added the vital bit in it, it's drinking alone at home in your LONG thermal underwear - that gave the extra coziness you need
Sielunmaisema, that's soul landscape. Swedes have smultronställe, I think? Maja technically means cottage, but maybe like tiny one..maja is also that small planket home you build as a kid (or one in the wood made with sticks) and it also kinda means home like a majapaikka is somewhere to sleep and be.
I am feeling pretty stressed out with uni work. Took a break and saw that you uploaded. This video calmed me down so much, I can't explain it. My "soul landscape" would be the same as yours, G. So just seeing this peace and quiet really made my soul happy. tysm
As always, watching your videos are full of great ideas to reduce waste and negative environmental impact in day-to-day life that are easy to adopt and incorporate. I would actually really like to see the process of you researching your impact videos in detail. I have been struggling to find relevant information for my region.
Love it! ❤ This makes me want to go back so bad! My soul landscape is definitely being close snowy finnish woods. I once drove from Oulu to Helsinki in early January and in some parts of the woods it was so extremely dark, I was impressed. It wasn't just your average everyday darkness, it was advanced darkness
Looks amazing! Great trip! So happy to see so many sustainable and vegan solution for everyday life! Baltic sea looks lovely! Hope it wasn't too cold☺️☺️
3:31 - tell me… how is it possible for you to take a bite of that amazing cupcake and not get frosting all over your nose or face? This is definitely a skill set I need to work on… I now have a good excuse for me to sample more baking in my life. Love the Finnish architecture!! Thank-you for including this in the video. AND… wild swimming and dumplings too… you are a gurl after my own heart. What an experience you and Jens have had. I loved your Autumn Helsinki vlog, and I love this one even more. Love the concept of soul landscape… this is coming from the gal who lives in the wilderness of northern 🇨🇦 and is so fortunate to be surrounded by my soul landscape. What is the word for this?? Thanks for the great video. Every minute of it was excellent and awesome. 💦🌎Ⓜary🏊♀
15:28 Could the words that you are looking for by any chance be 'kalsarikännit' and 'sielunmaisema'? Gittemary, we're having the same sielunmaisema! I love it. I'm so happy you enjoyed your stay at Helsinki again.💙 We almost were at the Suomenlinna on the same day! It's one of my favourite places here.
Lovely, lovely video, Gittemary. ♥ Thank you for sharing your trip with us. So happy that you got your luggage back and I'm assuming it made it home with you as well. 😉
I visited Helsinki about 6 weeks ago and I loved it! I watched your Video about eating vegan in Helsinki before and went to Junky Vegan every night 😂 I loved and enjoyed Helsinki also soooooo much, I hope to return some day! But there are other countries for me to explore, I would like to visit Sweden and Denmark as well (I live in Germany).
What a gorgeous mini holiday! Both the hotel and the cottage look wonderful. I was in Helsinki once many years ago and also had to go second-hand shopping, not because my luggage was lost but because it was freezing in August and I needed sweaters and a warm scarf! I am glad you seem to have had better weather. It looks like the restaurant scene seems to have improved a lot since I was there in the early 1990s;-)) I love grocery shopping on holiday too. Back when I was in Helsinki the food shops were insanely expensive and I recall they were selling half lettuces. The people we stayed with pretty much lived on potatoes. This was long before the introduction of the euro and the finnmark had just been revalued. The big outdoor market by the harbour was wonderful with splendid berries. Did you get there?
I am so curious about that festival! I want to travel to Denmark/Norway/Sweden/Finland -also more and more when I see all your amazing travel vlog tips :) - Question about this festival: can you stay there overnight or, if you can't, do you have any tips about where to stay in the city maybe....?
Hey Gittemary! The places looked amazing😱I'm super curious what are the names of the accommodations you stayed in. I think I found some of the restaurants etc in your food block but I would be happy if you can link them!! I will be in Helsinki for an Erasmus semester starting on Tuesday and I'm already so excited!🤗
Hi Gittemary, sorry but with all your videos, saying that "flying isn't perfect" it's actually a really disappointing understatement. Flying is actually REALLY bad for the planet, part of the category "the worst things we can do". I'm not saying you shouldn't do it as we all do but at least let's be honest about it and admit it 🤷♀️ If you haven't read them already, I suggest you read these 2 books: "how bad are bananas" and "net zero, how to stop causing climate change, by Dieter Helm". These books are essential for themes you treat in your channel. 😘
I am quite familiar with both books ☺️ - and I often refer to the severe impact of air travel, so when I understate the impact, it is not because I don’t understand, it is because in some cases we have to weigh the impact of several means of transportation, and as I mentioned a 17 hour ferry ride has a much higher impact that a 1,5 hour plane ride (based on fuel emissions and passenger capacity) 🌿 I am choosing more sustainable means of transportation every time I have the option to, like the 16 hour train ride I’ll take on Sunday, but that is sadly not always an option. So I hope we can create a community that accepts the flaws and errors we will undeniably make 💚
@@Gittemary Hi Gittemary, I am sorry, I have to correct you, but it is not true that the ferry ride has higher emissions. I researched on this topic as I frequently travel to Finland and wanted to know what is less worse. If you are interested I can give you my sources and the results. I think it is ok if you choose to fly but you should simply not tell you viewers that a ferry ride has higher emissions...
@@nordtuerlich7762 I would love to see your source, from the impact studies I found I saw the complete opposite result - which is why I said it in the video, so not to mislead people 😅
Hi Gittemary! I’ve too wondered how to best get to Helsinki. I live in Skåne (so basically Copenhagen-region😅) and my best friend has moved to Helsinki. I’d love to visit them but of course do not want to fly there. Did you look into the opportunity to get the train to Stockholm (should be around 5-6 hours from Copenhagen) and then the ferry from there? Must have a lower impact than going the 17 hour ferry you mentioned :)
I got my local library (in Finland) to include your book in its collections. Currently has three reservations waiting for it to arrive.
OMG thank you 😍
The best part of the video is Jens commenting your outfit while hiking. That is how we know her, that is how we like her. Omg. The sweetest!
Haha Jens always has the best commentary 😎✨
I came to comment that:) Jens aprichiation comments here:)

Never thought before about traveling to Finland, but seems preatty magical. Definitely putting it on the wish list 💚🌟
I can absolutely recommend 😍
Whenever you're ready, welcome 🙂

It is seriously an amazing place 😭❤️
The Scandinavian countries are so pretty. 🥰

Beautiful vlog, best of both worlds - pure nature and the city, architecture. And now I’m craving those dumplings… 🥟🥟🥰
I am also craving those dumplings again 😂🌿

If you like that view I think you'd appreciate one of my favorite places, Orcas Island
I do a happy dance when eating dumplings too, how can you not?! 😋

Wish I could book this exact experience! That flowery cake 👌. I also go to supermarkets and say "wow we have that too" lmao.
Im from Helsinki so it was fun to see many places that ive been too myself
Wow, thank you for watching my video! ✨
That cabin was awesome!!! New vaction destination unlocked.
I will HAVE to came back to that cabin 😭✨
Hi Gittemary :) Could you, please, tell the name of the cafe at 8:13. I would really like to visit it.
If you like cliffs you should go to Scotland! They lost my baggage in Helsinki as well 😞

I stayed at Koti in the city, and the cottage was Majamaja - there are links to all the restaurants in the Helsinki food guide on the blog ☺️

I always just take hand luggage when flying. Which is hardly ever though.
