The great Cavaillé-Coll organ in St-Sernin Basilica was built in 1888-89 by Aristide Cavaillé-Coll reusing the material from the previous organ by Daublaine & Callinet. It has 54 stops on 3 man./ped, and 3 458 pipes. It was restaured in 1996 and completely overhauled in 2018.

Used to play this in college when I switched from piano to organ. A lifelong pleasure to be an organist. Retired after 80years on keyboards, started at age 4 on piano. Mom & dad were musicians...

Je suis parfaitement d'accord avec votre appréciation. D'autre part, il me semble qu'avec une console plus " moderne ", le jeu propre eut été un peu plus serein dans les manipulation s pour modifier la registration!

I love this man! He has no music in front of him! He is a true French performer! Bravo Maestro!
The ability to manage a mechanical stop action in this performance without assistants is key. My observation is that most assistants require marked-up music in front of them to pull stops accurately. Those who can do it from memory would rather be the organist in the spotlight.
@@larrybav More the fact that 'titulaires' know their instruments and know CC's idiosyncrasies well. Most TH-cam videos on C-Cs are played by visitors and guests, who mostly don't know their ways around the ventil system...

Yes, absolutely. First rate in every respect: organ, registration, tempo, dynamics, and interpretation. The building toward a climactic ending in the fourth movement is fantastic, and he does it on a mechanical stop action without assistants.

Remarquable interprétation, notamment de la toccata. Cela m'a rappelé un très cher ami poète et musicien décédé il y a 30 ans, Jean-Marie Olingue, qui aimait Boëllmann et Widor.
His registration is so interesting. He has a unique style and flare to this composition that sepera all his tes him from the usual predictable organist.

I am so emotional right now as I played this for my senior recital when I was in my late 50s. My Mom was my inspiration and she died a month ago. She loved this piece and now I love hearing you play it. I am now 71 and miss the organ so much. I still study and teach piano but I miss being an organist. I played on a beautiful organ as you are playing. Boellmann is my favorite: Maybe its because we share the same birthday. Thank you so much and you have such a gift!
Oh my! We have a lot in common. I also had a bike accident with fractured wrist and jaw. Kept me out of the loop for a while. Also I am studying piano with a teacher from Switzerland but is here with a doctorate from UMKC, Dr. Boccard. Anyway I hopr you heal quickly and I thank you for your encouragement and strength, I wish the same for you. I have moved away from my hometown due to marriage and no longer have access to an organ. I am concentrating on piano. Thank you and I wish you the very best.
I really enjoyed this. I can only imagine that even after years of practice and hard work, and many performances that an organist of your quality is still completely given over to the music. It is a real privilege to hear you play.

He did a great job, but he played it a bit to fast. The Organ for example can't breath in the Introduction.
@@EwicoCylinder i dont agree with organ breathing, i hear and find the organ has more than enough breathe within the composers notes
@@aussiemale059 Well then you have a bad hearing. Because it's clearly to hear that he is not respecting the big cathedral space in where the organ speaks into.

POWER! That’s the first word that comes to mind when hearing this beautifully-performed suite...and that power isn’t just in the FF sections, but also with the more delicate registrations chosen for the contrasting sections of the second movement and especially the third. This performance is sensitive to all the contrasts the score calls for. And, of course, this organ is simply amazing.
That's pure Cavaillé-Coll. There's a latent power there, even in the ppp sections, that unmatched by any other organ builder.

This brings back fond memories of my senior organ recital at East Tennessee State University. Played the suite from memory on my a small reproduction pipe organ.

De très bonnes versions j'en ai écoutées, mais celle-ci est particulièrement réussie (sous tous les rapports : esprit, équilibrage, registration, tempi, prise de son) Un très grand bravo - et un super-merci !
La suite gothique est vraiment une pièce très complète c'est ma préféré. Vous avez du mérite de jouer tout par cœur

Nice, that also two other people heard it. I noticed it from the first hearing and was a bit confused (wrong played???) but then i though: yeah it sounds really nice!!! :) "Artistic Freedom" or as we say in Germany: Künstlerische Freiheit ;)

@@daniloherzlieborganist He also the pedal parts of the toccata differently than is written. In the sheet music it says for bar 7 F-Eb-F, not F-E natural-F like he played it. This goes for the same bars later on

Quand je lis tous les commentaires en Français, je vous indique être sur place, je vis à Toulouse toute l'année,
Il y a des concerts d'orgues à certaines dates du calendrier comme le 15 Août ! L'organiste titulaire #MichelBouvard tient beaucoup à cette date...
Cela dit, avec l'épidémie actuelle, je ne sais pas quand va reprendre cet évènement. Pâques 2020 pour un concert d'orgue... enterré sur place, pas eu lieu pour cause d'épidémie et d'interdiction de rassemblement de + de 10 personnes...
Le 15/08/2019, la Basilique Saint Sernin était comble pour le concert d'orgue... pour tous ceux qui pourront voyager cet été 2020... à découvrir ! Horaire : de 17h à 18h
