Oh my god, I was searching the name of this game for 18 years! I can't belive the memories I have unlocked in the first 5 minutes of gameplay. Thank you so much for this.
Exactly the same happened to me!! I had a really vague memory of the game itself, just remembered that I had so much fun playing it. I'm so glad I have finally found it!!
An R-Type that the further you got into the game, the more grim it became. When I got a PS3 all those years ago, I immediately bought Delta off of PSN as original PS1 copies had run up in price. Important lesson here for mankind, never create a bio weapon, then try and dispose of it, because it can come back to haunt you, and according to lore, it got put into a wormhole, and ended up 400 years in the past.
@@retrosoul8770 Thanks man! Now that i think aobut it. Before I got my ps1, i was playing a lot of shmups when i was a kid. We had a family computer and growing up i played a lot of contra and salamander too. The einhander made me really laugh that you could unlock bonuses on it depending on what you did.
The sub-boss right before Dobkeratops/Subkeratom is... the same ship you see after the defeat of QT Cat. Wow. Driving more salt into the wound, external sources say that it's also the R-9A we played as in the first game.
31:15 That point in the music just matched the game play soooo perfectly. I remember playing through it the first time, so many near misses, just getting through by the skin of my teeth and hearing that music kick in just as there's the 'respite' of the boss. One of my favourite gaming memories =)
And it's right before you have to fight the infected "old hero" of the past, so the buildup is just hit with a crushing realization of what is happening. This game did everything right with story, art, and music design.
Yet there's always been a few supposedly human beings down here who've repeatedly pushed their skills to the limit to protect us from the evil empire Bydo.
Blast from the past!! Remembering how many hours it took me to memorize all the levels and finally beat this game, I'm shocked to see that it's actually less than an hour all the way through haha

*spoiler alert?* Upon seeing the boss battle for the first time I was told beforehand that the bydo has some human components to them (or they were once created by humans then abandoned). What it wants is humanity, so in the final contact I interpreted this as the bydo wanting to reproduce the way humans do, down to its molecular components.
2024 here after the announcement of Nijigasaki High School Idol Club Season 4: THE FINAL CHAPTER TRILOGY MOVIES! R-TYPE DELTA, 27 YEARS AFTER RELEASE STILL AMAZING!
Incredible game. The biomechanoid creature at 30:00, as it gradually made its way onscreen, always reminded me of uncircumcised genitalia. That level is just so... organic and gruesome, and the creatures suffer when killed. I was in my 20s playing this in the early 2000s, and up to that point I'd never seen anything so incredible in a game. It was grueling, but always a pleasure to beat.

While I do enjoy every 3D R-Type game, I feel R-Type Delta is, by far, one of, if not THE best 3D entry in the R-Type franchise. It has so much attention to detail, like how, if you pay exceptionally close attention, when you move the craft, various small boosters will go off in whichever direction it's moving in. This is something that was absolutely lost in Final onward, and I feel this was a definite missed opportunity.
Damn this game was hard. My dad used to play it a lot back in 2001., progressed to lv. 4 a few times, usually dying on lv. 3. I was maybe 7yo at the time so lv. 3 was as far as I got a few times, usually hanging around lv. 2. 20 years had since passed, and it is my pleasure to inform you that I'm in fact still shit at this game and it is basically as far as I got.

@@Andrecio64 It is. The ship from level 4 it's a R-Type ship infected by Bydo and used as a Trojan Horse.
