Did you know that you aren't supposed to shackle 2 straps together? If the strap that's around the stump breaks or slips off then the shackle becomes a missile and hits the tractor. They make soft shackles now that are made of rope. The other thing you are supposed to do is hang a weight on the strap so it falls to the ground if the strap breaks.
Thanks for sharing your life with us.
God bless you and the family!

@@shawno8253 Yeah I much prefer straps or good double braided nylon. I once pulled a Greyhound bus up out of a small ditch with 25' of DBN in which I backed up to it's front bumper with my truck, took off and when I felt the line reach it's max stretch set the parking brake. The "snap" back of the line's potential energy then "popped" that bus fwd just enough to get them some traction. This was Wyoming in a blizzard and help was going to be a long time coming so sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do. STILL have that line!

Wranglerstar, why not use the grapple for a couple min to try and break more of that compacted dirt out? Also, from personal experience, I don’t like metal shackles between two straps. If the strap on the stump rubs/breaks or slips, that shackle becomes a projectile and likely at the tractor. Love the instruction for Jack and letting him learn to figure out how with guidance. Great example for others to teach our next generation.

My grandpa learned me to put big things like that stump on heavy steel road plates. Use the road plate as a towing sled. But be sure the object is balanced/stable or it will roll down the hill. Use a third strap around the stump and connect that to the tractor as well to prevent that. Always use the towing/low speed gearbox. Beeing 5 minutes early is worse when the pistons of you engine have cracks and the clutch will wear out too.

@wranglerstar, new to the channel! Not sure how well my east coast comments will be recieved. I'd like to impart a small bit of east coast man safety knowledge. When pulling something, with either a chain or strap, lay a piece of chain across the middle. Should either end split and snap off, gravity will take over and drop it to the ground rather than whipping around and severely injuring or killing someone. Stay safe guys! Have a blessed day!

Mr Wrangler star you did a very stand up job of teaching Jack. Letting him take charge and figure it out is the best way to learn from success or failure. Its been such a pleasure to watch your channel. Keep up the hard work!

Just a little safety hint: put a blanket on the cord. In case it snaps the blanket catches most of it. It is more important with steel cables, but useful vor any robes or cords pulling heavy weight. Best wishes and stay safe in these crazy times. best, John

Getting it on a trailer. Id say some wood ramps and a winch pulling up front and the tractor pushing.
Down and dirty style would be to pressure wash a couple hundred lbs of dirt off of it. But then you'd have a new project. Tree trunk table base

Advice for safe rigging, don't suspend a shackle between tow straps, if one breaks it becomes a 16000 grain projectile. Use a soft shackle or a loop-to-loop knot.

Suggestion: spray paint your shackles hi-vis orange so if they go flying, you have a decent chance of finding them again.

Use the auger that you cleaned up, several months ago, to bore a deep hole, that lines up with the house. Pack a half pound of Tannerite in the hole and toss a couple of heavy moving blankets over the stump. Set up a mobile shooting bench, next to the house and break out the 6.5 Creedmore. Give Jack a little practice.

I was going to post on the recently pulled video discussing police. I don't know why the video was pulled but wanted to comment anyhow. As another data point it was interesting to know that someone else was noticing that almost all of their interactions with sheriffs have been good or neutral while their interactions with police have been bad as often as neutral. A friend and I have talked about how sheriffs seem to be the law enforcement that everyone wants. Between you, my friend, and I we are separated by hundreds of miles and different states yet still have similar experiences. These experiences make me wonder if displacing police with sheriffs result in better outcomes for everyone. Municipal police seem to have been setup in some flawed way that the sheriffs are not effected by.

Used to do clearing for my grandfather during my college years in Eugene. First thing he would do was hand me a pick to get all of the dirt off, then cut the roots, usually takes 2/3 of the weight off. But I love the video anyways. Reminds me of great times.

It’s a poppy. When we purchased our home, the prior owners had so many poppy’s growing in the yard I thought maybe they were either making drugs or harvesting for edible seed. They can be fun to harvest once the seeds dry.

Love your show Pal , been watching a lot of years now. Crazy to see Jack grow up like he has. I log with horses and mules , I also remove a lot of stumps with them . I make block and tackle our of old car rims , horses shoes , and angle iron . With one of those on that stump you would double the power of your tractor . I know you know that but it is just a cheap way to make a block that will take a chain or strap . I have several and I can pull a massive stump out of the ground with a team of horses . Take care , God bless and thank for the videos . I have been enjoying more now than ever before.. It you think you would like to build one of these blocks let me know I can get you a pic..

Man! What a life! How amazing must it be to be able to spend that kind of quality time with your son; teaching him such valuable lessons on how to perform a task like this not only the right way (not rushing through it and doing it methodically) but just getting to convey that good work ethic and family values to him. He will be a better man from times like these, Cody. Watching your videos has sparked a movement in my families life, and I can only hope and pray that we will have opportunities like these in the future...with my wife and children. Thank you for what you do, Cody.
