I watch a lot of this man's videos, I really enjoy them. This is exceptional, great knowledge, easy to understand but something that would be almost impossible information to get.
Just a minor correction, radar uses frequencies closer to microwaves not xrays. They are non ionizing and generally harmless especially in low power consumer applications such as this. Thanks for the video! it’s very enlightening on the crew movements as they leave port.
@Karen Mata Yeah, back in the day like 1955. Only military radar produced enough ionizing radiation to even be a concern. Merchant vessels and certainly motor yachts never had this problem. All high voltage vacuum tubes produced ionizing radiation, including television CRTs, but the levels were so low as to not contribute to cell damage or cancer rates.
Andromeda in the background ! Awesome! Thank you for your very informative videos !!! With respect to you from Moscow, Mother-Russia ! Have a nice day!
@@YachtReport Yes, I watched probably all the videos on your channel about Andromeda! Very beautiful and cool ship! He is my top №2, the yacht of our Alisher Usmanov Dilbar 156 meters №3, and of course my favorite ship is the magnificent Octopus!!!!! As for me, the Octopus is the king of yachts, like Godzilla the king of monsters in a recent movie :)
Hopefully we will all be lucky and you'll run into the new Lurssen mega yacht "Flying Fox". Judging from the few pictures that have come out it is pretty spectacular.
Great content from your channel. Whenever I heard you mention they dump the rubbish/garbage before they leave I think of Star Wars, Han Solo and his old smugglers trick!! Thanks again for your insights.
Hello sir. Started watching your videos, very interesting and informative. I get the sense you work/worked in the industry, am I correct? When going from port to port in the Mediterranean, what's the procedure in terms of entering leaving different countries, for vessel and crew? Cheers.
On larger yachts (and ships) the engines are started by the chief engineers and then co trip us sent up to the bridge. On smaller vessels they can actually start them on the bridge although it’s not done generally (in my experience) because the engineers have to do pre-start checks.
A very good looking "little" super yacht :-) Is any of the technology from self driving and self parking cars working their way into yachts so that the yacht can "park" itself?
I saw a video from a larger ship where docking was partly automated, I think it was purely GPS based, not radars or ultrasonic sensors or anything like that so as long as the port is properly mapped and no other boats are in the way and nothing has been altered it would work. And of course it still needed someone on the dock to catch the rope. So, still some way to go...
Nice video. Is Andromeda ever going to leave the dockside? At 107 meters, more than 40 meters longer than Irimari, is Andromeda going to be able to do a 180 turn at the same place in the harbor?
@@YachtReport : Really? They've been using remote controlled locomotives for decades in rail yards for switching, remote controlled trailers for heavy haul, military drones, etc...seems like thrusters, rudders, and props would be child's play.
The really long range marine radars can emit up to 25 kilowatts of microwave energy, but this power is contained in a very short, intense pulse on the order of microseconds. Newer solid state radars my run as low as 40 watts. A home microwave oven emits about 1 kilowatt, but continuously. The only possible interference I would expect are older WiFi and cell phones on other ships or landside. No real health effects unless you're standing directly in front of the antenna. Military ships' radars, on the other hand, can and do range up to 2.2 megawatts since they're looking for incoming missiles close to the water using very narrowly focused beams. They normally operate at around 35 kilowatts. Can't wait for the first super/mega yacht to introduce phased array radars into their superstructure/mast. No moving parts.
She is offered for charter for € 460.000 a week ex expenses. Even incl. expenses € 650.000 a week for a 63m yacht would be way to expensive. Look at Burgessyachts and check what they offer for €650.000 😉
what kind of people spend 650000 on a yacht for one week? I mean if you got the money to spend that much for one week you probably have the money to just buy a yacht?
There is a huge difference between x-rays, which is nuclear radiation and the electromagnetic pulse of a radar. Those are not known to be harmfull at any distance. Allmost any ship will turn on the radars before departure. Sounds like an engineer talking nautical stuff.
@@YachtReport may i ask what would u do with the 650k instead. Isn't going or inviting some people to the most fancy cruise ships in premium cabins less costly ?
It’s a different league. People who drop this kind of cash for a week are usually millionaires/billionaires. People who are thinking about perhaps buying a yacht etc. Lewis Hamilton frequently charters yachts as an example.
@@YachtReport thank you dear. I guess u are right. It's a different type of thinking and attitude. Strange maybe to some but I have absolutely no idea what the appeal is to paying 650,000€ for one week aboard this floating Hyatt Regency surrounded by crew members and polished chrome. What a complete joke.
You think the interior of a yacht is the same as a Hyatt Regency? You've clearly never been on one. Also the kind of people who charter a yacht for that amount are super rich. So to them it's what they spend on holidays. They are often in the market to buy and want to try out a vessel or they have just sold a yacht and have a new yacht being built and want to get some yachting in whilst they wait.
As for the primary yacht guest and what they are doing at time of departure would be nice to know. I would guess the guest are having sex drinking champagne and hiding all the extra cash that will be given to all the staff and crew at the end of the charter. Two hundred thousand dollars is alot of money to hide though which I suppose would be the amount.
Little things like a yacht getting underway are not often filmed but a real part of life at sea. Thank you for capturing and describing the procedure.
I genuinely appreciate the explanations of what is being done, as it is being filmed. This was very interesting, indeed. Geoff Rohde

I was just about to comment a similar thing, but you beat me to it. I think he's confusing X-Band for X-Ray. Ship radar uses X-band and S-band.
xNYCMarc ah I didn’t know about x band that makes sense.

Yes I did mean microwaves, but they certainly are not harmless. This is why they are switched off when people go aloft. .
That was great fun to watch, as it is interesting to see bigger yachts getting out of port!

@ 2:50 -- so radars on, but will those xray the passengers out in the sea, or is the roof secured (e.g., lead)?
www.who.int/peh-emf/publications/facts/fs226/en/
Meant to say microwave not x-ray. People onboard will be fine as long as they don’t go up the mast whilst Rasta’s are turning.
The radar was rotating, probably not Radiating. You can rotate without radiating. Nice Yacht. Sunrise yachts eh?
Nice job! I see it went from Cannes to Nice. Nice ship!

The radars could be rotating but not chucking out any waves perhaps?
when a Radar is in standby the antenna stops rotating.

Nooo, engineering
eSysman oh, wow, thanks! You responded even personally!
@@YachtReport thank you. Found a video where you answered my question this week. As I suspected..
Apparently it's very difficult to make a really QUIET bow thruster.....those things can create noise levels you do not expect on a superyacht
This was nice. Thank you.
Is a bigger yacht better?
Did you say, the captain cannot start the ngine from cockpit? Just curious...

Is any of the technology from self driving and self parking cars working their way into yachts so that the yacht can "park" itself?
Not at the moment although it’s inevitable that technology will get there, but it’s not as straightforward with ships.

Quantum Blue has been moored where this yacht is leaving for the last two winters. A huge yacht but dwarfed by the Corsica Ferry.
here in Stretto di Messina big ships need pilot just to pass trough
Do crews ever give you a hard time for recording what they’re doing?
Hello from Canada
Great vid thank you
Why would you even need bridge wing controls? Doesn't someone make a remote?
Remotes are not reliable. Ships have many levels of redundancy built in and a wireless remote would be too unreliable to trust.
@@YachtReport : Really? They've been using remote controlled locomotives for decades in rail yards for switching, remote controlled trailers for heavy haul, military drones, etc...seems like thrusters, rudders, and props would be child's play.
Do you think automation will become more the norm as in vehicles in boat and yachts?
Well it has already but I’m not sure it could replace the human completely. At least not yet
Awesome play by play love the info, interesting note about the radar running in port. Is it really that harmful?
