    How necessary is it to remove the driveshaft bolt? And it's single use right? I am looking at replacing ball joints and LCA bushings and bracket at same time. Really would like to get out of removing the DS bolt if I could.

    • @autodocuk
      @autodocuk  7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      The screw bolt must be extracted from the drive shaft, as this makes it possible to move off the hub to obtain some space to work with the replacement of the ball joint.
      If you don't do this then during the displacement of the hub you will you pull out the drive shaft from the box and there will be oil leak. It's better to do from the hub side. Best regards, Autodoc.

    Thanks for this, but why is it necessary to remove the axle bolt (and shouldn't this TTY bolt be replaced?) - is the extra working space that much more significant? Does it matter if the axle accidentally pops out off the hub?

    Thanks for the video, nicely done. I changed the same ball joint in my Audi TT today and the track is now towing out and the steering is misaligned. Should I have finished tightening the 3 bolts with the wheel on and on the floor? Nothing is worn and the steering rack was not moved. I have to assume that the joint can position itself differently.

    Thank you for the video but it has kind of glossed over tightening the nut on the tapered cone of the ball joint. With the drive shaft in place there isn't space to put a splined tool in the centre to stop it spinning when tightening. I've seen a suggestion of jacking the ball joint into the hub carried but will the resultant friction be sufficient to tighten to the nut to the specified torque?

    • @autodocuk
      @autodocuk  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      If the hinge starts to rotate, you can press the ball joint from below with a stop to remove the gearbox. If you don’t have such a tool, you will have to remove the CV joint to gain access to the inside of the hinge.

      Top tip regarding torque setting of the ball joint top nut: make sure you apply a reverse load (upwards) to ensure you reach the correct torque setting. Reasoning behind this is that it's the natural weight bearing position when the car is back on its wheels. You can use a jack pressed up against the steering knuckle to achieve this. If you don't do this, you won't achieve the correct torque setting, and risk the ball joint being too loose, which can cause knocking and premature failure of the ball joint.
