Wednesday morning i started talking to my son about the winds on his drive home in the gap and how he should maybe just stay until Saturday. I said that to my son. I was worried about the wind…the freaking wind. He and his girlfriend live in Knoxville and their dog was at the boarders where he was trained. They didn’t want to leave him an extra night because he doesn’t eat while they’re gone. On Thursday morning Jack, my son…and Gabby, his girlfriend, got up early and left Asheville and didn’t tell any of us until they were home in Knoxville so that we wouldn’t have to worry about them driving in the rain. I’m not trying to be morbid…but as a former medical Disaster Mgt official in Florida, I have to wonder about all those swept away vehicles and the poor recovery folks in charge of searching each one for bodies. Between that and, according to my daughter who got to Asheville yesterday to help out-6 days after the storm, there are still tiny mountain communities that can’t be reached…still hundreds unaccounted for. I remember after Andrew…after several weeks, folks missing who were near the coast or on any of the waterways; were deemed to have been washed out to sea. Some were found months later buried under mounds of dirt, sand and debris; I don’t envy anyone down in these areas right now. Yes, we have friends who went in to find their family members, who are safe. They said the folks who are cut off have no idea what has been going on, the extent of it. Some didn't know it was the hurricane. Helene was a fast mover, for sure. I worked in a TX psychiatric hospital next door to the Astrodome when Katrina hit. I heard the survivor stories then, and I still remember them. Now I live in coastal SC and I'm hearing similar heart-wrenching experiences. We are only beginning this recovery, and its impact is never-ending.
Yes, the small communities in the hills were definitely affected by major flooding. Most roads were destroyed by the flooding and landslides. Thankfully I heard volunteer pilots have been flying into areas picking up residents who have lost everything. Some homes were spared from total destruction and the people need water, food, medicine and in some cases diapers. If it weren’t for the volunteers I’m afraid many people wouldn’t survive. Sadly, there are many areas yet to be searched looking for survivors and it’s Day #7.

I lived in Erwin for 20 years and the Nolichucky river has gotten dangerous with heavy rain before, but flooding on this level was never a thought that anyone could have imagined. My heart goes out to all those affected by this tragedy.
The criminals who perpetrated this destruction need to be called out. Jet Streams and weather in general goes West to East, NOT East to West! These storms are steered using HAARP & NEXRAD technology. Climate geoengineering is a very real thing and the dumping of heavy metal nanoparticles in aerosol form in our skies every day 24/7 are a big factor in this too. Please everyone, hold these criminals accountable! This is NOT a left/right thing. Weather has been weaponized for decades. Presidents have openly talked about it. There are numerous patents that have been filed going back decades. Once you begin looking you will find clear agendas for these things and why they target specific areas. God bless all who were affected!
I live in north metro Atlanta and somehow it skipped right over my community and slammed TN and NC. South and West GA were damaged but it went right past the north metro areas. Im really starting to be affected by just watching all of these heartbreaking videos. Every night, i dedicate my eve til bed watching these. I cant even begin to fathom. I feel just horrible for all these people, places. God be with you all. Id go help but im too old.
I was in Greene County yesterday to help a friend. Seems that Jones Bridge is working, but the devastation on either side of that bridge was absolutely mind-numbing. Many of the other bridges are simply gone, including the ones on TN 81S, Jackson Bridge Road, the 107 Bridge into Embreeville, the Route 353 bridge in Chucky, the 107 Bridge in Greeneville going into Greeneville. Luckily, the Nolichucky dam held. The folks on the south side of the river have to go miles to the Jones Bridge in order to get into Greeneville or go anywhere north of the river. I live just north of the river near TN 81S, and the Lamar Convenience center (dump) had 12 linear feet of the area wash away. I was told that they will have to move that Convenience center somewhere else as the land is too unstable. I was told by the worker at the Washington College Convenience center that it may take over a year for the County to relocate the Lamar Convenience center.
It’s going to take months just to clean up the debris & mud. Many years of replacing bridges, roads & buildings. Decades to even begin to truely recover.
The destruction is beyond words...one for the ages. It is sad so many lives and livelihoods lost. The US should stop "ALL foreign aid" and start rebuilding and supporting these US citizens. We need our tax dollars for OUR CITIZENS🎉
Please just stop. 0.3% of our budget goes to foreign aid. Also, there's a LONG LIST of Republicans in congress that voted against increasing funds to FEMA. Start looking there if you want someone to blame.
How about just have Congress appropriate the money? Would we provide a year in foreign aid? Won't even cover a third of what the damages is going to be
I'm in favor of each country helping itself. I mean...how silly is it to help another country, then they help somebody else...just keep our money here to help our people. Tough world. Gotta fend for ourselves. Did any country in the world ever send money to help AmERRORca? My memories go back to the 50s and I'm coming up blank.
In Spain we have the same problem, after colonizing the river beds in the peaceful intervals that last centuries. One day, the fury of the water shows up and tries to recover what was taken away from her. This is why the old greek beleived some rivers were living gods.
These storms are often described as "once in a century" but over the millions of years of geological time, water has carved out all these valleys. And of course the "best" land for building on is the flat valley bottoms, otherwise known as Floodplains...
I live in Unicoi. Such a heartbreaking event. TVA did an incredible job with the design, construction and operation of the dams. Tragic loss of life and especially in NC.
Well done, Aaron. Job well done… The devastation is overwhelming! It stays with you. Now go take care of you! We love and admire you from afar and appreciate your dedication..

Perhaps in the future buildings next to the rivery bed we should consider specifications for the potential expansion of the river after heavy storms, even if they happen once in a century.
It's so sprawling, when the flood has passed, now I'm worried about the clean water source and the surrounding environment, can it cause an outbreak of disease. Thank you for showing us panoramic footage. Wishing all the peace to all people❤❤❤
I know it's a silly question but did anyone check the interior of that car? Airbags being deployed means that it was running or had its switch on. Somebody was in that when it went bad.
As they check each car they place ribbon around. There are so many cars & even trucks to check on footage I've seen. They'd have to carry many rolls of tape, so sad. My friend's mum lost 3 elderly friends over here, more than 10 yrs ago in an inland tsunami. A family lost the mum (self inflicted) 6 months or so before the flood. Then the dad & his 6 kids got washed away it was so sad.
@@kevinchambers1101 thanks for that. I guess it's done differently in different countries. I've seen stickers in some places. But I'd say spray paint is a better way & more long lasting.
For lack of better scale, this is nothing short of a coastal tsunami with an equal effect of atomic bomb-esque destruction via walls of water. Between the mountains, there's nowhere else for it to go. We've been sending supplies as we can to reputable orgs, but the totality really puts things in perspective to how unstopable it was. Former CR/S&R specialist wishing I still had my full capabilities to help more physically.
The widespread destruction from this storm is just unbelievable My heart goes out to all people and animals affected This makes me so aware that that no place is safe from having this happen where you live I am going to prepare in case this happens where I live

Irma, and Michael, went through both of them via serendipity of life somehow. Those storms/aftermaths give perspective to the horrors of this. Irma and Michael were soul crushing but dude this is terrifying to watch. To know that so many didn’t see it coming, you have to refrain from weeping to not do so. God bless you bud, this will haunt you and don’t forget to pray when it does. Stay strong and seek Jesus.
They are going to have to build miles and miles of bridges for actual roads. This eroded such huge, deep paths out of the river banks up into the mountainsides that there is absolutely no way the government, nor core of engineers could ever replace all that rock and dirt.. in some cases 25ft lower than was there before. It's now downstream for good. This is a disaster of absolutely epic proportions. It will easily hit the top 10 of US history.
They could if they just gouge out the river path channel deeper, and push the edges back ..to where the new road would be..nothing can do about the lands slides apart from lower the gradient slightly...a lot of terra forming either way..
@@brianmeen2158 Most of these people actually own the land they live on, and it’s been farmed by their family for generations. If any of the armchair experts would like to explain how to move with literally nothing to your name, I’m all ears.
Word is that all the areas that were destroyed by the flood are sitting on a huge lithium deposit that Blackrock would love to get their greedy hands on.
This place is on Google Earth and the last pictures were taken in April. It was a beautiful town. The Shell station, a Hospital and this Inn seemed to have survived at least I see no major structural damage. Having worked in shell stations for many years, it could be up in running by end of the year. A lot depends on the health of underground storage tanks. If anyone knows this station can you please tell me how bad is it?
I think the storms torrential rains must have hovered over this vast area and the valleys essentially became a lake. With no where for the water to go.
I mean this happened where I am, from Friday to Sunday nonstop with 50mph winds the whole time, our river drained like normal. There has to be multiple dams to fail for this shit to happen.
If there's any area's that's been under drought conditions the same thing will happen. The hard packed Earth simply can't absorb the water fast enough.
@@Turk_2023 Do you live in the mountains? There was a previous rain event that saturated the area right before the hurricane hit, there was no where for the water to go once the ground had become saturated but down into the valleys.

Oh My Lord. The Western Carolinas use to just get real bad rain storms from hurricanes. The Eastern to Central areas would absorb such devastation, before. This damage looks apocalyptic. You may not be able to see it, but God is crying over these results.
You do great work. I saw a videontoday from ERWIN, the guy hiked back to the other side of the river to his campground. He said a lot of reports of "coughins" going down the river, was it a funneral home or cemetery pop ups? Hevshowed one off to the side in the side of the river, politely. Do you know anything?
Besides the sadness of the lives lost and the properties destroyed, another thought comes into mind about how every square inch of these beautiful landscapes will be littered with trash/debris probably for much of our lifetimes if not forever.

It looks like King Kong just ripped huge trees out of the dirt and picked up semi trucks and threw them. Horrible.
I live in north metro Atlanta and somehow it skipped right over my community and slammed TN and NC. South and West GA were damaged but it went right past the north metro areas. Prayers for these communities. Donate to reputable charities that can help and don’t forget the recovery effort will be going on for years. 🙏🏻💔
@Storm Chaser Aaron Rigsby Wonderful job. It was a pleasure meeting you on a random broken road in Erwin. I’m a couple miles on the other side of Lamar. Safe travels
App-uh-latch-un 😂😂😂
Agree! Our family FIRST
So true!!!! Me give BILLIONS to other countries. Each county, each town, each city in the USA should be first!!!
The extent of damage from flooding is on a scale hard to even imagine!
The devastation is mind boggling. As someone else commented, this kinda stuff stays with you for life, meaning all those who went through it.
I live in Unicoi. Such a heartbreaking event. TVA did an incredible job with the design, construction and operation of the dams. Tragic loss of life and especially in NC.
Well done, Aaron. Job well done…
The devastation is overwhelming! It stays with you.
Now go take care of you! We love and admire you from afar and appreciate your dedication..
Where 81 hugs the mountain from I-26 to Embreeville is just gone. The Nolichucky was brutal.
I saw that. The vehicles in the river bed that were exposed looked like they went through a crusher, then a grinder.
I can’t believe we will never be able to drive through that beautiful area again. 😢 they are saying there is no war to rebuild the road through there again.
@Happyscmm Is that was they are saying? Ive been taking that toad to work for 20 yrs. Its so sad. It will never be the same!
@@Happyscmm honestly...it's for the best. that is one of the most dangerous road's I have drove on... those truckers hauling ass around those tight curves...
This is my home town. Its so sad to see the horrible devastation Helene caused. Still over 74 people missing. 🙏😔
The height of the water in some of those areas is scary. God and goodness be with them. Bless those that did not make it and their loved ones.
The trouble with storms of this magnitude is they won't be able to rebuild the infrastructure in time for the next storm of this magnitude.
It was really nice meeting you in Erwin. I look forward to seeing more of your videos.
So much damage despite being almost 400 miles inland.
Years and years and years and it will still never be the same
We just sent a bunch of supplies from New York. We’re so far and can’t do very much enough, except empathize with your relentless suffering through these hard hitting videos. This could well be us in the future. Terrifying!
Absolutely love these videos. I keep trying to turn up the volume, don’t play music but wouldn’t mind hearing way at the drone hears, even if it’s the buzzing I can turn down.
Wow, I live right over the mountain in Bristol and I can’t believe the destruction to my neighbors. Prayers you way.
We need generators and none are coming! We have no interstate! Bridges washed out!
People in the mountains have no roads in some places!
We have been loading and unloading water by the tons but can't get it in unless we use horses!
We have people still being rescued in collapsed houses !
A kid was in mud trapped for 5 days!
No food! No water! And suffering hypothermia !
3 people stuck in the basement up with water up to their necks for 4 days! Trapped!
Spruce pine , Marshall nc etc
Johnson County tn !
It's a nightmare!
We need help!
It's hard loading and unloading hundreds of thousands of pounds of water for 3 days!
We are still at it because that's what a community does! God bless!
This is a real eye opener 😢 so much destroyed and so many lost their lives. This will be in my heart forever 💔 Praying for all of the Victims of Helene. 🙏🏼
Wishing all the peace to all people❤❤❤
Was wondering this as well
@@daughterofthemosthigh3588 So worried. I'm not there. But I hope everything is fine
The cars they check are spray painted with a series of numbers and letters for information.
@@kevinchambers1101 thanks for that. I guess it's done differently in different countries. I've seen stickers in some places. But I'd say spray paint is a better way & more long lasting.
@Coral-k3v from what I understand, one number is for the date checked. And a number or letter is if it is empty of if it has a body.
@@kevinchambers1101 That car was unmarked with deployed bags. That's why I asked.
Weather warfare 😞☁️
I cannot wrap my head around this immense destruction from a hurricane that hit so far away.
I've thought the very same thing😢
Thanks for posting a video from your area. I’m interested in the bridges that are gone and the roadways. Assessing damage
Astounding just mind bending …great video
Thank you Aaron.
The widespread destruction from this storm is just unbelievable My heart goes out to all people and animals affected This makes me so aware that that no place is safe from having this happen where you live I am going to prepare in case this happens where I live
You gotta watermark this amazing footage.
The amout of drbris piled up is staggering. Every stick of wood in those piles is a battering ram. Relentless and unstoppable. It's a wonder anything is standing at all.
After going thru many hurricanes this was by far the worst devastation - my heart breaks for all these regions hit 😢
Prayers to Everyone Affected by this Storm.
Rebuilding in the same area that just got took out, is insanity
Understood, all surviving victims will be relocated to your neighborhood free of charge.
@@boosterseat9967yeah relocating is so much harder than people think
@@brianmeen2158 Most of these people actually own the land they live on, and it’s been farmed by their family for generations. If any of the armchair experts would like to explain how to move with literally nothing to your name, I’m all ears.
Word is that all the areas that were destroyed by the flood are sitting on a huge lithium deposit that Blackrock would love to get their greedy hands on.
@@boosterseat9967They don't care. Heartless, cruel people..
This is apocalyptic.. 😓

Our wonderful government, messing with the weather again!! Shame on them!
Thank you for the video.
It's sobbeautiful there. The devastation is beyond me. I'm just speechless. RIP to all who perished 💐
If you’re not part of the solution, you’re part of the problem. Bless those involved! 🙏🙏🙏
Yeah that's exactly what happened, I thought it was going to hover over Charlotte but it turned left and hovered over the mountains
Ontop of storm hitting it rained hard as well two three days before storm hit I'm from tri cities and know several people in unicoi county Erwin breaks my heart people there some the best you'll ever meet 🙏🙏
like 10 miles down the road from me, you guys are in my prayers
One of the most beautiful places on this planet.
It will take decades to rebuild all that's been destroyed. Heartbroken and these videos are painful to watch. God's small mercies right now is that it didn't happen in the middle of Winter
Oh My Lord. The Western Carolinas use to just get real bad rain storms from hurricanes. The Eastern to Central areas would absorb such devastation, before. This damage looks apocalyptic. You may not be able to see it, but God is crying over these results.
Absolutely mind boggling
Just think about how many cars have went in those Rivers! Maybe with missing people?? So Heartbreaking!!
So! Where did all that water end up?
Im worried about the people with asthma around the water damaged buildings & burning wood piles. Please be as safe as you can!
Thank you Brooke.
Besides the sadness of the lives lost and the properties destroyed, another thought comes into mind about how every square inch of these beautiful landscapes will be littered with trash/debris probably for much of our lifetimes if not forever.
Triste y doloroso ver estás imágenes yo sé lo que es vivir en esa situación 😢😔lo vivimos en el huracán María y sé por lo que están pasando.

wow it looks like the storm may have altered the course of rivers!! in some areas that are shown it it impossible to tell where the river used to be or normally is and were the lad used to extend to!

All those wood framed houses didn’t stand a chance. Here in Florida, we at least have concrete block homes with hurricane proof windows and hurricane shutters. I cant even imagine being in a wood framed house during a Hurricane.
Jamaica has precast cement structures
Have you seen the thousands of those wooden "stilt" homes all over the Florida coast? And not all homes in Florida are brick/concrete. There are many wood framed houses.
@@guyintenn there are also trailer parks. It just depends on how much money you have but most quality constructed homes in Florida are concrete block. Wood framed homes in Florida are a thing of the past and are suspect to Termites and Hurricanes

Where is the rescue????
Why do none of these drone videos show the nuclear plant nearby? Im guessing it’s a no fly zone because it’s a Government facility? Just curious to how it was effected or if it.
I drove by there Thursday and it looked undamaged. Nuclear power plants are very strict and off limits to vloggers like me. Most will not allow news channels to have access.
It's so hard to understand the scale of what you're seeing...all the buildings look miniature in comparison to the destruction around it. Makes you feel very small.
What’s really bad is . most of the people in all the states that suffer major flooding , probably didn’t have flood insurance ..
This was a hurricane 🌀 in Tennessee! So hard to believe...😢. So sorry.
What do they do with all that debris?
This government needs to be fired!
